I am not forgetting that a toddler has lost her life, and it is EXTREMELY tragic and is something that could have ABSOLUTELY been avoided if the grandfather would have exercised a little bit of God given common sense.  I work as a Paramedic/Firefighter as well as in the ER of  a local Level 2 trauma center, so I see people that make life altering bad decisions just about every day that I go to work.  The mother that had no idea about her son being in a gang and his life is ended at 16, the 86 year old woman that smokes while wearing oxygen and has a burn area above 30%, all from her chest up and has soot in her airway.  The mother that was speeding and drinking and ran off the road and hit a tree at highway speeds with her 4 year old that was unrestrained in the back seat.  I see not only  physical trauma but emotional trauma on a regular basis.  And seeing it so closely and so regularly I also am able to see it from the other side, and have some sympathy for the family, as well as the grandfather.  I am not saying that what grandpa did was right, what I am saying is that life as they know it has changed forever for every last single person in that family, and my heart goes out to every last single person in that family.

I'm recommending a prescription of 1 part Kraken to 3 parts ginger beer (Perfect Storm). Take every one to two hours as needed until PCE symptoms subside, followed by further doses as / if symptoms return. Be sure not to take excessive amounts of Perfect Storm, as this could lead to UCM (unintended cruise miss), which in turn would cause your PCE to worsen into MCD (Missed Cruise Depression).

I was a diamond C&A member before I discovered Matt and this website, podcast and more.
I have learned plenty from Matt and this community despite having been on quite a number of RC cruises in the past.  I feel like I have a better cruise experience because of what I have learned.  Well deserved honor and #1 in my book.  A lot of the information is relatable to other cruise lines as well.

Be careful to separate rumor from speculation from facts.
Until the White House announces it, it's not going to happen.  Even if it did, the cruise lines lost so much money on the abrupt short notice changes they will be a lot more careful going back absent of anything that doesn't confirm another whimsical change couldn't occur a month later.  The current administration isn't very business friendly towards the cruise industry.
Even if a new administration were to allow it, the cruise industry would be cautious.  Most cruises are booked over a year in advance.  The cruise industry will always struggle with a flip flop government policy that allows it for a few years then changes it's mind with zero notice. It's challenging to build a business model when nothing is certain and the government can rip the rug out from under you tomorrow.
In the past there were grandfathering clauses that provided some stability.  Those were not offered this time where they could have been.

We just got off Majesty on Monday. It was one of the Cuba-cancelled cruises where we received 50% of our fare back as a refundable OBC.  Upon boarding we ordered a drink, and there was a guy there pitching BOGOHO drink packages. After doing the math it was a $47.50/pp per day plus tip - which is a far cry from the $66/day last spring.  Normally my wife wouldn't get the package, but we were cruising without the kids, and to be honest the money was already "spent" mentally, so with a little bit of arm twisting she relented and we purchased the package.
On a side note, the refunded money covered drink packages for two, all the gratuities, and some other miscellaneous spending.  We walked off the ship with a final bill of only $94, after living large all week.
It was most definitely a great cruise. ?

Same for my September sailing on Anthem. I noticed my Harmony December 2020 sailing went up the other day to $60 for 20% (it was $56). Hopefully that goes back down a bit LOL!
My September sailing just had a 30% off sale so we cancelled the 25% (BOGO 1/2) and purchased at the lower price. I check weekly and allow Royal's marketing emails through my filters to stay on top of all sales. Good luck getting a good price!

Just catching up on the replies right now as I'm in the middle of a 27 hour road trip from Maine to Florida. As I said we were very disappointed in losing Roatan as a port. We went through the  multiple emotional stages of itinerary change and came up with a substitute sailing.
For the same price we booked the junior suite on empress for the same week. The ports are Roatan, Belize, Cozumel, and Key West.
I know we've gone from the largest class to the smallest ship but for us it's still YOLO.  It's a chance to experience a small ship and a different type of cabin. At some point I'll start an empress tips and tricks thread to get some great advice it for now we'll just get excited!

I just received the email for my Dec 1 cruise. I was hoping they would fix the propulsion system before the cruise but I guess they are waiting for dry dock. I booked this cruise for a number of reasons and one of them was to go to Roatan because I was never there before. I haven't gotten off the ship in Nassau for a few years but recently (I thought in this blog) I heard there was some sort of pilot simulator here so I might try that.

The sooner this is implemented fleetwide, the better it will be for all of us. Nothing worse than a chair hog. I hope this isn't a one off for AoS. Rules like these should be enforced for the enjoyment of all. I'm all for getting up early and staking your claim to the best loungers in the pool area, but you better be using them and not just saving them for later.

At embarkation ports in Florida, it is a third party company called Intercruises that handle check-in details and may provide for the security in the terminal, although I am not certain of that. When stepping on board, ship security takes over, and they scan your Seapass each time you board or disembark and ask all the pertinent questions. Every time I observe them or interact with them, I am impressed. They deal with all kinds of crap from entitled passengers, and handle it really well.

If I stated this b4 I am sorry.
Security on the Adventure was amazing.
    1. Towel station.  A passenger saved 8 chairs at 7 a.m.  By 9:30 a.m. their towels were returned, but their items were left by the chairs.  The attendant said you broke the rule that is stated everywhere...30 mins.  You now owe 200 bucks for the 8 towels because you didn't check them back in.  They got testy, security was called and they were told that if they did not back down they would be escorted off tomorrow at 8 a.m. when we docked.  They immediately backed down
    2. My SIL looked very flush when she was walking on the pool deck.  A security officer said to her sit down now.  He went to the pool bar got her a bottle of water and watched her drink it.  She was over heated.  She wanted to leave them, and they said no, not unless she walked back to someone that was traveling with her.  I was in the Solarium.  They brought her back, and I said, no, I know her, she is very fair skin and what you think is flushed it really is sunburn starting to show.  They stayed another 10 mins to watch over her.
    3. At night 3 I went up to the blue moon bar, deck 14.  I get on and find 3 kids, ages 8,10 and 12.  The 10 yr old that day had to get 5 stitches at Horseshoe bay (grotto area) her shin is wrapped.  I make small talk and ask how old are they.  They told me.  They were going to deck 5 Promenade, my cabin was on 7, but decided to go to 4 to Schooners.  I told the bartender that there are 3 kids under 12 riding the elevator....I knew this also because they said that as soon as they hit 5 they were going to hit 11 (pool)  2-3 mins later security was at Schooners asking for descriptions of the kids.  These are the balcony style elevators so you can see everyone.  I ordered a bottle of water, went to the elevator and as mine was going up the security guard was coming down with the 3 kids.
~ I don't know if this was because of Freedom, but I remember thinking what kind of parent are you?  Who lets an 8 yr old that just got stitches to wander a ship this size?  The promenade staircase is marble.  The pool deck even at that hr can still be slippery.  Those handrails for a 10 yr old truly are an issue if they want to get a close up look at the sea when you are talking about being with other young kids.
    4. Night 4 we were walking the deck and 4 18+ yo boys decided that this was the running track.  They got nailed, and I watched security ask let me see your sea pass card.  He said something on the walkie talkie.  Next thing I knew was they were being escorted off the deck...my guess back to their parents cabin.
I was really impressed with security, even though they made me go through the screener 3 times each time.  I have a metal knee cap and a hip.  I would tell them this before I entered.  I'd beep, they send me back in again.  It always ended the same way.  Do you have a phone on you? NO.  Do you have any jewelry on you? Yes, just my wedding and engagement ring.  3rd time...do you have any metal in your body?  You mean my right knee and hip?  Yes.  Okay...go through

As far a heading into NYC. grab a bus to take you to the Port Authority bus terminal on 41st Street. It is a few blocks from Time sq, the theater district, Rockefeller Center and Central park starts at 59th St. Don't be afraid to take the subway to the World Trade Center. It's no big deal.  @Matt grew up in the are too and may have more insight to offer.

We've been to both as we have a Timeshare in Playa del Carmen, if your plan is to do it as an excursion, Tulum is the better option since it's closer.  However if you ever plan on doing land based vacation...go to Chichen Itza and spend the day there..you will be amazed of the archaeological aspects of the Mayans ruins.

I would go to Tulum.  I believe the best way to see Chichen Itza is through a land vacation, which is on my bucket list.  I enjoyed Tulum, but it was hot (June), so plan on lots of bottled water.

I've often said numbers and stats are nice, but not the focus of what I'm trying to do. I'd rather have a community of 10 people who are supportive, helpful and fun than 10k people who do not talk.
I think it's safe to say that we've retained a good balance of fun and knowledgeable folks here, while attaining a tremendous goal.
The credit lays not with me, but with all of you.  Seriously. These boards do not grow to 10,000 people just because of me. I can't answer every thread, start my live blog ridiculously early (*cough @Lovetocruise2002 *cough), share breaking news or comment for the umpeeth time if @twangster is indeed real.
So many of you have been posting here for years, and others have recently joined and already feel like part of the family. It's been a tremendous journey so far and I am so thankful you are all here to share in it.
A special thank you to the moderators, who help enforce the rules; to some special long-term members who help flag down spammers and alert me when @monorailmedic is being overly annoying; @WAAAYTOOO for answering all those casino threads that I know nothing about; the entire MEI Travel team for helping support our great community.
There's no question the needle is moving in the right direction, and I thank you all once again for being part of this. One of the few regrets I have in the history of this site is not starting the message boards sooner, and today is a great example of why that is.
Thanks all, and let's celebrate with a Kraken and diet coke while onboard a Royal Caribbean cruise!
