It's not just traveling.  Anytime you need to prove your identity, your name must match on all required documents or you need the marriage certificate (or divorce papers) to link the names together.  In cases where couples both hyphenate their names, they will both have to watch out for this too!

I called RC this morning and you are correct!! I will have to have my marriage license in addition to my birth certificate. Luckily I have a mother-in-law who lives down the street and is able to overnight it to our hotel while we're in Orlando. Otherwise, I'm not sure what my options would be!  Thank you so much for the heads up. I would have been highly upset when I went to board the cruise ship on Friday.
Here's hoping this helps any other married women traveling with a birth certificate instead of a passport!!

That makes sense, but It doesn’t say anything about that online. We have already left town and will be flying to Orlando tomorrow for our cruise that leave Friday. I will call them first thing tomorrow morning!! Thanks for the heads up!

Another thing about needing plugs and not understanding people who use electronics is that everyone's idea of a great vacation is different. I personally love to read with my kindle by the pool or listen to a podcast with bluetooth headphones while relaxing. I also enjoy the ability to share my vacation in real time with friends and family. All of these things need charging and it's amazing how quickly the plugs get full, especially once you factor in cabin mates. I understand that some people enjoy disconnecting or using very few electronics on a cruise but it's a pet peeve of mine when someone uses their personal preference to look down upon other's choices in how they choose to spend their vacation. I'm not saying anyone here is doing that, but I HAVE seen that condescension elsewhere and it's incredibly uncalled for, in my opinion.

Just back from NOTS. Birth certificate only was fine for getting on ship. It was Not fine for getting off. The passport line is tiny. The BC and foreign passport line is a nightmare. Definitely worth getting the passport if you can.

Just sailing on NOTS with both me and my hubby with birth certicate only. Went with friends that had passports. The customs guy scanned their passports, and took a picture of our birth certificates and Id together. Took like 2 seconds longer since you had to get the ID lined up on the bc to get it all in picture. You will be fine.

Are you departing out of Miami or Fort Lauderdale?  There is a passport office not far from the Miami port that does “emergency” passports.  You need to make an appointment but turn around can be same day.  If you are already traveling with your birth certificates you have the documents.

Nope, just going on a short 3 night to Nassau and CocoCay. I'm most concerned we will be stuck in a long line that seems to take forever while everyone will be passing us by with their fancy passports!! Ha!

Nope will not happen at all, you will be just as quick as everyone else to board, or if you are early get into the waiting area.

Well it really depends on where you are going as well.
    1. You might not be able to board the ship.
    2. You  will be fine.
    3. You will be detained, imprisoned and executed.
Number 3 is not that likely though.

Yes, the beach is adjacent to the waterpark. You'll get a wristband that gives you virtually unlimited access to the Atlantis property, and can go back & forth between the beach, waterpark, hotel/casino, and aquarium freely.

Hi KwEvans, our group decided to buy our own since I didn’t want to deal with a leaking facemask & would have time to proper fit, we can get hopefully one more use on our June HOTS cruise.  Dicks Sporting has Aqua Lung for $30 that included mask, footies &  mouthpiece all in a nice carrying bag that is 3 pounds. I figure we will just watch where the guide points for people that rented their gear go & go that way. I’ve read that wherever the orange boys are, and to find the sunken “ plane” are the hot spots. Oh  FYI , four sets take up an entire luggage suitcase bag.If you buy  white Speedo version, have shorter footies, so take a lot less room.

I actually changed my car rental reservation to do this yesterday!!  It was much cheaper to change the drop off location than arrange transportation. I think we will just plan to Uber from the port to the airport after the cruise. It probably won't be much more than renting a car and definitely easier.

Thanks for all of the suggestions!  As always, y'all rock!

What about dropping your rental car off at the Port Canaveral car rental office (instead of bringing it back to Sanford) and taking the free car rental shuttle over to the ship? All the major car rental places are represented at Port Canaveral and all have free shuttles that run every 15 minutes or so. You can arrange a one-way, one-day rental for the trip back to Sanford, too. Same thing- take the car rental shuttle to the office, pick up the car and drive to Sanford (about 1 hour away). You can send one person ahead to get the car and swing back to pick up the others at the Port, or all ride the car rental shuttle to the office.

I would look into dropping off the car in Canaveral like @twinswithtwins said. Also, when we sailed out of Baltimore but needed to fly back out of Washington DC due to a schedule change, it was actually MUCH cheaper to rent a car from Hertz in downtown Baltimore and drop it off at the Reagan airport rather than book other transportation.

In October I'm booking through Hertz and staying at and dropping the car off at the Residence Inn at Cape Canaveral, Hertz is in the same parking lot as the Residence Inn. Then taking a shuttle to the port the next morning, the port appears very close.

Kwevans reacted to Matt in Cruise Planner sale
The short answer is there will probably be a sale over Memorial Day.  No guarantee, but historically there has been.
I'd also advise you to book any of these purchases now to lock in the price. If the price does drop, you can cancel and rebook.  But by booking now, you guard against a price increase.

We are sailing on Saturday and got emails 3 times in the last week (including today) offering sales on many (not all) cruise planner items. Some of those prices were as low as I've seen other than Black Friday. I would guess they will have another sale around Memorial Day, but keep checking your emails also. FYI, If I am not mistaken, no purchases can be made within 48 hours of sailing.

Kwevans reacted to Atlantix2000 in Soda
You only have to bring the provided cup if you want to use the Coke Freestyle machines.  This is because the RFID chip in the bottom of the cup activates those machines.  Any bar or restaurant (including MDR) will give you a soda although the options may be limited depending on where you are.  Your SeaPass card will be printed (or have a sticker) indicating what drink package you have so you just show it to your waiter or bartender.  I've seen conflicting reports on the ability to get canned vs fountain soda from bars/restaurants with the drink package.

Kwevans reacted to coneyraven in Soda
The short answer is "No" -- you don't need to lug the cup everywhere, except, with the machines.  As for getting a soda at the many venues/bars .... they'll just give it to you in a glass.  I've never seen anyone get a can, although, I suppose it is possible if you ask.
