From Canada it’s cheaper to fly into FLL then Miami. We always fly down the day before and rent a car.  50 dollars at most for 24 hrs. We just did this last weekend before we got on Symphony. There were six of us so we got a van and it saved us a ton of money. We use the car to get to our hotel in Miami make a Walmart run and then drop off the car back at the airport the next day and the car rental companies give you a free shuttle to the port.

Wow Brenda!  That’s great info!  So if I’m seeing cheaper flights into FLL, not only can I rent a car for about $50, but the rental co will get me to the port for free?  Looks like if I spend more to fly into Miami I’d have to pay about $20/person to get to the port! Is that all correct? Thanks for your help.

We stuff it in our beach bag, below the beach barbies, used tissues and spare kids underwear. No intruder would dare dig into that bag.

I'm not sure about Budget, but I used Dollar and Thrifty previously at Port Miami. For both of them, there was a shuttle between the Port Miami and Miami airport Car Rental Center (even though I booked to Port Miami). It's not too far and they both were easy to use.

I just booked a Budget rental car for there and it is a pick up at cruise port so I assume to drop it off you would go to the Budget office and they shuttle you to the port.  Here is the information from my reservation.

Hello we are in the Symphony starting April 6th. Ports are Honduras, Costa Maya, Cozumel and Nassau. Does anyone know if there are beaches without taking a transfer. Tenders?  And recommendations for inexpensive excursions. I.e. taxi to a beach for snorkeling etc...  Thanks. ?‍♂️????‍♀️??⚓️

I've been on Oasis class ships 6 times, eastern and western Caribbean cruises, I agree with @twangster , it has nothing to do with the ship, it has to do with the seas and the wind, the only time I have ever felt an O class move was when the ship was being hit broadside by a pretty good wind, even then it was hardly noticeable.
I just went through a bridge tour on Allure in January, I kept seeing these little deviations in course when I was watching the map on  the TV, so I asked the officer at the time what this was all about, he said they would deviate course to try and stay in smooth seas and the most sunshine as possible.

We are going the same dates!  We did Harmony last year so not expecting much different. First time we went in April so hope the seas are calmer.  I worry about sea sickness. Great replies so far. Thanks for posting

So, Royal now offers a multitude of "deals" on specialty restaurants, drinks packages, excursions, etc. And they are tempting us with a bidding war to get an upgraded suite. Here's a novel idea I would like to see. "Let's Make A Deal" where you select the specialty restaurant, drink package, excursion, etc that you want for as many times as you want and you offer a cash deal or discount for your custom package/packages. What do you folks think?

Hey all, I am going to be going on a 7 night Western Caribbean cruise April 6th - 13th out of Miami. Super excited about it! I have been on a ton of cruises, but am particularly excited to be on Royal Caribbean's new ship "Symphony of the Seas" . I wanted to post here to see if anyone had any tips, suggestions on dining, what bars are cool, or just any information they wanted to pass along, much appreciated!

Brenda Landry reacted to Gabe in Symphony of the Seas: Tips, suggestions,
Just got back from a 7 nighter onboard her and I have a few thoughts/tips:

    1. If youve been on an Oasis class ship, you know the drill.  Symphony isn't much different.
    2. Sugar Beach candy store is good as is Playmakers on the BW, though given the time of year, not much going on sports-wise to show other than soccer.
    3.  Do see: 1977, Iskate 2.0 (Studio B); HIRO (AT) Hairspray (RT)
    4. skip- Flight (RT) complete zzzz fest
    5.  HIRO scrapped 3 shows while we were onboard and then crammed the makeups into the last 2 days of the cruise; reserve the earliest one you can, so in case its cancelled, you'll automatically get rebooked to a later show.  We had reservations on Night 6, but the forecast called for iffy weather, so we endured the standby line for Night 5.  Barely made it.  Sat in the 3rd row (ie the splash sone, but didnt really get wet)
    6. El Loco Fresh (pool deck) was great.  Fresh quesadillas, tacos and burritos.
    7.  No shore tour was ever sold out (despite having 6500 onboard), but of course reserving during a sale ensures a lower price.  Be mindful that if you want to exchange or cancel a tour, you must do so within 48 hours, though we noticed the policy was loosely enforced (including for us, when we made a couple of last min changes).  If your cruise goes to Nassau and you get off the ship, bring your seapsss AND photo ID! we were not told about this and were briefly detained in port security for about 30 mins while Nassau Port PD checked our names against the days' manifests and arranged for an escort back to the ship since we didn't have a photo ID.
    8.  Leaving the ship on the last morning was crowded (and we did express departure). leave before 8 AM if you want to avoid the masses.
    9.  Speaking of, while the new terminal is great (easy checkin, still has the new terminal sheen), getting ground transportation to wherever after you last disembark (for us, FLL airport) was challenging..  we had a reservation with one of the MANY companies hawking rides.  signage is basically nonexistent  and the shuttles can pick up in any of the 12 loading zones spanning the length of the terminal.  You'll be well served to keep in constant contact with the company you choose to find out where to get picked up.  There are 6500 disembarking at once, so its chaotic!
    10.  The app, as been discussed elsewhere, isnt great.  You cannot use it to text without a internet plan (unlike on Harmony) and youc annot modify reservation times or tours for the most part.  You must cancel and rebook, which usually results in you not getting the time you want, plus the added hassle of losing your orig reservation and trudging to guest services.  I tried to modify a Jamies res one night, which ended up inadvertently cancelling the UDP we had bought on black friday for super cheap.  At first, they were going to charge me for the full onboard price to get it again, but once I explained how their app caused me all sorts of confusion, they gave me the orig price I paid.
    11.  Suprisingly, Guest Services was never terribly crowded when we walked by (which was often).  they do a good job of triaging in the line with the use of iphones/ipads  so that most trips to the counter can be avoided.
    12.  Finally, the restaurants were all good, esp Hooked.  I def recommend it, since the lobster there is a full lobster, not some small tail you get in the dining room.  Since we had the UDP, we never ate in the dining room.

That's correct. It seems lately the window for reserving entertainment is all over the place, but definitely skewing towards closer to sailing than perhaps a year ago or so, especially on Symphony.

While I cannot predict the weather, April is a dryer season in the Caribbean.  There have been good recommendations about medication to take to combat motion sickness. Many medicines come with side effects.  We are taking sea bands for our girls this spring.  My brother and sister in law have had great luck with them, and we've already purchased some.  We'll probably take some Bonine as well.

My daughter and I are both prone to motion sickness. That has never stopped us from cruising. Like @melski94 said, just take precautions before you go. We don’t like using the patch, but when the motion bothers us, we just take Gravol (the Canadian version of Dramamine) and we are good to go.

I am prone to sea sickness.
I always book rooms middle to back.
I take travel sickness pills with me.
Taking one the night before we sail and every night at bedtime as if the sea turns rough in the night I know it will affect me.
    It's for years for me

You booked a good cabin being low and midship.  You are also on a large ship which helps.  There is no way to predict waves as usually they are a result of storms.  I tend to cruise during March and we've had some cruises with no motion and others with lots.  You just never know.  Since you know you are prone to motion sickness you can bring and take precautions.  You can do the natural remedies like ginger tea, ginger gum, ginger candy, ginger Dramamine (non drownsy), green apples (in the WJ).  Or you can bring bonine, dramamine or even go to the doctor for the patch.  Many of us cruise with motion sickness and just bring a lot of stuff just in case.  Good luck!

You can. But you might be too far out to be able to book them yet. Sometimes you can’t book until maybe as late as 30 days from what I have heard.

Need more information to give a recommendation...nothing here so far is inexpensive IMHO.

With 6 ppl you need 2 rooms....quick look at the one mentioned above would be almost $1000 for 2 rooms...that's insane!

Choose a cheaper nice hotel further out with a cruise port shuttle or take on Uber/Lyft in the morning...way cheaper!
