  1. Just back from an Alaska cruise on Brilliance. Flew out of Newark to Vancouver on United the day before. Flight was almost an hour delayed. Stayed at the Fairmont Waterfront which is across the street from Canada Place (port). It is NOT CHEAP. Flew back to Newark on Air Canada. The United plane did not have the seat back entertainment screens and the cabin smelled of urine. The Air Canada flight did have the screens and it was a Godsend while travelling with 4 kids. Got back almost a half hour early. AC tops United on this vacation.
  2. Buy the insurance. Fly in to the port city the day before. Enjoy the cruise.
  3. The survey wanted to know if we would be interested in seeing Axe Throwing on board ships. Really?
  4. Wow. We were just there last Wednesday. Looks like we made it out just in time. This is unsettling news.
  5. On the last day of our Alaska cruise on Saturday morning (August 5) the Captain announced that there was a serious medical emergency onboard which required the passenger to be removed by helicopter. We were in Canadian waters and in some of the worst fog I have ever seen on a cruise. After a while past the announced pick up time he reported it would be delayed for 20 minutes or more because of the fog. Eventually a huge yellow helicopter appeared, it was way too big to land on the helipad, so they lowered apparatus on a cable to complete the task. While you could watch this on your cabin TV a bunch of the people were crowded around the large screens in the Schooner and Colony Club, etc. No word was ever reported (to my knowledge) of the final patient outcome.
  6. I'm pretty sure every cruise I've been on had at least one. Pretty commonplace.
  7. "Locust who only go to the red light district" Aren't they concerned about how this ban will financially affect these essential workers? Geez.
  8. I brought up going back to Nassau with my wife, she nixed the idea. She still has no desire to go a port where we just stay onboard.
  9. At some point the industry will come to terms with bigger not always being better, and build ships that may be smaller but satisfy the needs of them and their passengers.
  10. We are doing the 5:00 because the wife and I are older crowd members and we are taking 4 young grandchildren with us. You called it!
  11. Yesterday I booked a cruise for 9 people on the Brilliance to Alaska on July 30, 2023. I did not pay that much more than I did for a similar Alaska sailing on the Disney Wonder 7 years ago. For 2 people. Seriously. (Took advantage of the Cyber Monday Sale and the Kids Sail For Free promotion)
  12. July 30, 2023- Brilliance- Alaska via Vancouver
  13. Sailed out of Bayonne twice last month, bought the water package both times. The first time the brand was True. Second time it was Poland Springs. It was also in plastic bottles, not in cans like the pictures on the Cruise Planner. Also they were 16.9 oz, not 12 as quoted when purchased.
  14. Those that I didn't like that much (and there have been a few) were well performed but just dumb and confusing. My favorites were We Will Rock You and the Journey cover band DSB who were awesome.
  15. Filed well in advance, got it exactly 1 week before sail date. That being said check your spam. I heard they like to hide in there sometimes.
  16. I like them too! The wife doesn't drink but she does enjoy the virgin Lava Flow.
  17. My wife has a SERIOUS dairy allergy. We buy shelf stable oat milk and put it in our luggage. Never had a problem with this. It can be good for 9 months unopened. If your local store doesn't have it you can get it from Amazon in about 2-3 days.
  18. On the other hand I recently saw someone with a Magic Cup fill it up then walk over to the table his 3 kids were at and use it to fill some smaller Dixie cups they had with them. Whatever.
  19. The Medicine Shoppe. Had to use them twice for 2 cruises 10 days apart this month. $150.00 per test. Results were e-mailed to us about 45 minutes later.
  20. Yep. We did a 9 day a couple of weeks ago in a C4/JS and we both got 36 points from C&A.
  21. They did that to us. The refund was pretty quick. However it was so close to our sail date that when I went to look for another excursion that suited us they were all sold out. Sucked.
