  1. We'll be on Allure in March-April, 2019 so the Royal app will be an option for us. I'm just leery about relying on it 100% given how RCL doesn't have the best track record with their IT services.
  2. When we're in port, we won't need them to be able to text with us, since they'll be with us the whole time. If they do need (or want) WiFi in port, they'll need to connect to a restaurant or something like that, similar to what they do at home. It'll just be on the ship while sailing that I want to make sure they can send and receive text messages in case they go exploring so we can communicate with them.
  3. My kids have non-cellular service phones, and use WiFi to access simple app's like Text Now for texting. Will they need a Voom package for this, or would the free ship WiFi (such as what's used for the new Royal app) suffice?
  4. My son is hearing impaired and uses a pair of cochlear implants to hear. The external parts have to be charged and electronically dried over night so I requested an extension cord with multiple outlets through the special needs link, just to make sure we don't run out of power options in the cabin. Incidentally, I'm a diabetic and requested a sharps container for the cabin. They confirmed back that both would be in our cabin prior to boarding.
  5. What do you all think about child reservations for the $45 Hibachi dinner? We have five adults and one 11 year old in our group. Since the Hibachi tables are all exactly eight seats, I was afraid to only book five seats online, figuring they'd assign us with a party of three with no flexibility. So I booked all six at the adult rate. Do you know if they even have a child rate for this dinner? It seems to have different rules than the other specialty restaurants, for instance not being included in the UDP.
  6. Questions about this one.... Is there a child rate lower than the $22/person currently shown online? Is dessert still included? I know the menu is limited from the dinner version, but I haven't seen any current menus showing dessert options, only old ones. If it matters, we're sailing on Allure. Do you recommend this for a lunch option? We're doing the Hibachi dinner but probably no other specialty restaurants, so I'm thinking this might be a good way to "sample" Chops for less $$. thank you!!
  7. Thanks, that's what I figured. It's actually my mother and father-in-law who need the parking before our cruise, and I told them I'd scope out the options. I'll tell them to suck it up and use the cruise terminal lots.
  8. For the Port of Miami, I'm sure the port terminal parking lots are the best (they better be given the prices!) but let's say I don't want to spend that amount. All the cruise parking lots off Dodge Island have terrible reviews. We're staying at an Airbnb the night before our sailing, and I don't believe we'll be able to leave our car there. Any lots you would consider acceptable?
  9. I snagged it for 40% off earlier this week! It was such a great discount, I actually bought several combinations of packages for different numbers of devices and both types of Voom. When I know better what I want for our March 2019 trip, I'll cancel the ones I don't need. Or if I need to free up space on my cc, I'll do it sooner. LOL
  10. No, it was an inside cabin, not a suite. I might wait a couple weeks and see if my past cruise points change from 1 to 4, since I know it can take some time for points to be applied. Thanks for the info on the old method, I wondered if it was different.
  11. My husband & I took our first RCCL cruise 20 years ago for our honeymoon (4 night cruise), and our next one is booked for March 2019 (7 night). I just registered us in CAS last night through an RCCL representative and she was able to locate our first cruise to give us credit for it. I figured we would earn 4 points for that trip, giving us Gold status for our upcoming cruise in March. She told me we're Gold members now and I got off the phone. I went back into my account, and could already see my past cruise posted, but we only received 1 point for that trip, not 4. But we have 8 points total, which I assume is 1 from the first trip + 7 for the upcoming, but I thought we didn't earn points until after a trip was completed. I'm not complaining about being at 8 points already, but I'm concerned before our March trip, RCCL might realize they shouldn't have given us 7 of those points yet, and we'll be back to 1 point for pre-gold. Does anyone know if past cruises (like 20 years ago) are credited differently, where they don't count all the nights? Should I call them back and try to get 4 points for the past cruise to ensure our Gold status before the March trip or leave it be?
