I have 4 menus from the MDR posted in my Mariner blog (in the live blog section here) and if you look through the live blogs by @twangster, he also has MDR menus posted in his.

DRLPP got a reaction from kjw83 in Shore excursions, entertainment on ship...
Welcome to cruising and the Blog. I agree with other comments listed. my two(or three) cents: On the bigger ships, book as much as possible for activities on the ship on the daily planner, you can always cancel it out. For a first timer, I would just stick to main dining room so you can get a feel for the regular menu options, then on future cruises you can decide on whether you want to pay extra for dining/special event. For port excursions, if for nothing else but piece of mind, I would do excursions thru RC and reserve ahead. I agree to excursions that do port city overviews maybe that also leave time to walk in the port areas. Last, check out ship layout ahead of time and once on board walk around to find key areas of interest to you, theater locations, dining area, different pool spots, etc.  Added thought, arrive a day or two before cruise to enjoy the embarkment city and need not worry about making ship due to delays. Relax and have a great time.

I agree with taking expired passports along with you and just not mentioning that at checking in. it would expediate things if a problem did arise out of country.

Not to raise your fear level, In Pennsylvania where I live, our drivers license is not an acceptable federal ID due to failure to comply with federal security guidelines.  Just double check that your state's DL is acceptable. Not sure is that matters with raised seal BC. Just a double check thought.

We were on Oasis in May and ate in the Solarium Bistro twice.  There was NO CHARGE except for the lobster and lamb.  It was very good and a change from the main dining room.  Appetizers and desserts are "buffet" style.  You order the entree from the waiter and it will be served to you.  They will bring you a receipt at the end of the dinner.  There is a place for an additional "tip", if you so chose.  My only "gripe" was that the 2nd day we were there, two large parties were also dining (22 people in each).  Since the area is tiled, the noise was a bit of a factor.  It wouldn't stop me from booking it again.  We loved the Mediterranean appetizers.

My wife and I did our first European cruise in 2016 with the same apprehension you have shared. Language is not an issue. We did not run into any language barriers. Barcelona is my choice. We did the 12 night Venice cruise out of Barcelona. We arrived 3 nights early to time adjust and see the beautiful city. You don't need to stay very close to port as anywhere in city is just a short taxi ride. Airport was a 20-30 minute taxi ride to town.  Europe opened up a whole new world of cruise travel. Next we head to Australia/New Zealand/South Pacific in 2020. Relax, enjoy and you will have a great time!!

Posting my first topic as I finally created a profile. Needed to, as the first thing I do in the morning is check the RCblog.  Recently retired and my wife and I are doing a B2B, 11 night, out of Sydney to NZ and then 11 night to South Pacific on Radiance in March/April of 2020. We are Diamond level so we know the basics. We are spending 5 nights precruise in the Rocks area of Sydney.  Have a few questions to put out there. 1: we have same balcony cabin, with B2B do we need to disembark ship or are we assigned to a lounge to wait out boarding?,  2: On an 11 night, does menu repeat after 7 days?  We will probably do some of the specialty restaurants especially on second cruise but wanting to plan out for possible packages. 3: Should we expect any extra perks from RC other than typical Diamond since we are doing B2B? 4:Any "must do" ideas for Sydney, NZ or South Pacific? 5: Anyone stayed at the Rendezvous Hotel in the Rocks area? I have already gotten lots of ideas online from different sights but wanted some other input.  I know, lots of questions. Thanks in advance for any thoughts or ideas. DRLPP  (Larry)
