  1. ***DISCLAIMER***  I did try searching for this question before I posted!

I booked a Grand Suite for next summer on RC that I am having to cancel for financial reasons.  I purchased trip insurance for 2 adults and 1 child (15 at time of travel) through RC when I booked it online (without a Travel Agent).  Anyways, I understand the non-refundable deposit/future cruise credit stuff.

I'm getting to my question I promise...The RC agent was kind enough to remind me that I purchased trip insurance and to get with Affinity Travel (Aon) about refunding.  I just placed a claim and just got all the paperwork.  Before I fill all of this out, I wanted to ask - does anyone know where I can find the terms on this insurance?  I thought Affinity sent me an email about it, but I cannot locate. Bottom line, I really want to know if I can get my money back or not.  There is no medical reason, no death.  We just don't want to go anymore.  Can I get my $375 back based on canceling the trip for no reason??

    Thanks!!!!!!

  2. My friend is going on a cruise with wife.  They do not have passports.  They have a Texas Drivers License of course and plan on bringing with them their marriage license and birth certificates.  Here is the issue he is concerned about:  His wife's married name does not match her birth certificate name (obviously).  Her previously married name is reflected on their marriage licence.  Hence, it does not tie with her birth certificate.  They cannot find her divorce decree that reflects her maiden name which matches her birth certificate.  They sail 9/23.

Please help with this.  Are they okay?  Should they require other documentation?  Thoughts?  Thank you!

  3. I am the original poster of this post and I received the email and clicked it and was told I was on the "wait list".  I am STILL waiting for the call.  I've answered ALL calls and it's been SOOOOOO annoying.  Since June 25th, I've listened to 10 seconds of the following recordings:

    1. Have you found Jesus...
    2. You've won a cruise...
    3. This is Audi calling from the warranty department...
    4. Do you have outstanding student loans...
    5. This is the IRS...

And last but not least, no one there after I say hello 3 times!!!!!

It's been oh so much fun answering all of these calls pre-recorded sales and fake/fraudulent calls.  I only have 23 more days until sailing so I will continue with the answering until then.  IF I get the call, the agent better hold on to their hat because I will flip out/scream/yell when I get the actual call from RC!!!!!!!!!!!!

carpe diem -    in the majority of ports, these "authentic" cubans will be very over priced and questionable at best unless he is aware of the subtle nuances to tell a fake from a legit.   i'd be more than happy to share (offline) my overseas sources that are without question, legit Cuban cigar distributors.   That being said,  up until the past 10-15 years,  quality of true cubans has rapidly declined as they became more readily available through mass production.   I used to be a huge fan but now i've found so many more non-cuban cigars that are leaps and bounds much better than the current  stock thats out in the market place unless you can find an aged box going back before the cigar "boom" period.    I digress, as this is one of my passions (current stash is well over 2000+ cigars)  and i could ramble on for hours.   In short, when i buy them,  I never buy them at port for reasons mentioned above.   Majority of mine come in from Switzerland via Cuba at a near domestic cigar prices ($6 - $9 a stick)   legit, better quality,  properly maintained and best of all, much more reasonable priced.   more than happy to share my connections and he can see for himself.

Yes!  I would love to discuss this offline.

  5. There is a shop in the Jamaica port where you can purchase AUTHENTIC Cuban Cigars.  Whenever we go, my husband buys a box.  He has smoked/given them all away and now misses his little cuban compadres.

In September, I am going out of Galveston with my Mom to Cozumel, Costa Maya and Rotan.  Does anyone know if there is a store at port (or beyond) where I could purchase some cuban cigars for the hubs at home with the kiddo?

(And people who plan to spend zero on board will certainly prefer that setup.)

Who are these people?  These are probably the same people that can keep wine in their house.  When I go to someone's house and they have a plethora of wine, I am like - how do you do that?  We can't keep wine in our house for a collection!!!!  People come over and it gets poured!

But I digress...so I view the people who spend ZERO on board with the same awe.  I can't imagine going on a cruise and NOT having a huge bill at the end!  Much respect to you zero spenders but how do you do that???

I'm thinking of cruising on Liberty of the Seas for next summer. Done all of the Oasis Class and want a change. We want to visit California and a good combination with that would be a cruise from Texas. I've wanted to sail LB for a while as the prospect of a Freedom Class with the slides appeals to me.

Personally, my reservation is that I am not an American and worry that I would feel out of place sailing from Texas. It felt like that on EN out of Baltimore.

Is this something to worry about or should I consider booking it?

Consider it!  Liberty of the Seas is an awesome ship (one of my favorites).  I am sailing on it again in September for the 3rd time.

I am a little bias but it's been said before time and time again...the people you will encounter going on this ship are mostly from Texas (I would guess) and we are some VERY polite and nice people!

We’re sailing the same week ?   I think we are going to pass on our Maya Chan reservation and spend the day in port.

Oh cool about you sailing the same week!  We're just gonna hang at the port.

I’ve never been to Costa Maya. Was watching some YouTube videos over the w/e and it looked like the port area is quite nice and reminded me of Falmouth. Pool, bars, restaurants, shopping, and of course Diamonds International. I saw ships other than RC docked so I assume the beautification wasn’t exclusively RC’s doing. Anyone know the story of the Costa Maya port ??

Going in September.  I am wondering the same...

@Lindsay I don't have an exact answer but I do have a situation that mirrors yours in a way...

Originally, I booked Anthem for 2 staterooms and ended up going to one.  The cancellation of one room ended up with a $150FCC for my daughter.  We then took this $150FCC and applied to a booking on Indy for March 2019.  In January, I stumbled across a cruise for March 2019 that I would rather go on over Indy so I cancelled that one and re-applied the FCC to the new March 2019 sailing on Harmony.  Well, two months later, we ran into KSF for that Harmony sailing.  The terms of the FCC is that it must be applied to guest who is paying a cruise fare.  With KSF, they technically are not, so the $150FCC is now lost again.  It expires this October.  I just booked a cruise on Mariner at the end of May.  I called Royal back (because I still have the original FCC in my possession) and explained the situation to them and they allowed me to use it on our Mariner sailing coming up.  They just asked for the number on and they were able to track the history of it.

    Hope that helps.

    What is KSF?

When you booked and they accepted the $450 FCC and applied it to this cruise, did they also require and charge an additional $450 deposit?

If the FCC satisfied the deposit requirement I wouldn't think you could double dip on it.

If you had to pay a separate deposit then you *might* have a shot but in doing so they will likely see the original 2/3/19 date for the 1st FCC and reinstate them with that requirement, if they allow it to be re-issued at all.

Unlikely with only 60 days remaining.  It's past final payment due date so I going out on a limb and guessing you won't be able to do this.  Prior to final payment due date (90 days) you might have be able to do so.

Interesting question.  Was the 1st FCC expiring date 2/3/19 based on cruise date or date you cancelled the 1st cruise?  The websites references the "issue" date:

Non-refundable deposit: Non-refundable deposit booking (“NRDB”) cancelled prior to final payment due date will receive a future cruise credit in the amount of the deposit minus a $100 per person service fee. FCC is non-transferable and expires after 12-months from issue date.

Regarding your question about the $450 FCC Royal accepted...I had already paid the $750 deposit for the cruise long ago and they just applied the $450 FCC to the balance of the cruise.

The 1st FCC of $450 that Royal applied to my July, 2019 cruise expired in 2/3/19 because that is when I cancelled the cruise.  That is when the FCC was "issued".

Did you book all of these through RC or a TA? If it's a TA I would let them fight your battles.

I have 2 future RC cruises myself in the infamous Grand Suite Non-Refundable so I also have interest in your outcome!

No TA, I do all booking/cancelling on my own.  I now FINALLY see the advantages of a TA.  I really don't want to deal with this stuff!  Ugh.

Yes, I will definitely let you know how this plays out.

  13. I feel like the queen of cancelling cruises lately.  Ugh.  But I have questions, and I was hoping this group could help me with.  Let me try and make this LONG story short:

Cancelled a cruise last January.  We were in a suite so we lost $100/pp and received $450 in Cruise Credits.  Those cruise credits "supposedly" said I had to cruise by 2/3/19 BUT I booked another cruise for July, 2019 and Royal accepted them and put them towards our cruise balance.

Well, we are now having to cancel the July, 2019 cruise.  Please don't ask why...it's depressing.  Anyways, again another one of those awesome Non-Refundable Grand Suites...so we lose money again ($100/pp) but we will get another $450 in Cruise Credits.  Here are my questions:

    • Can I ask for my other cruise credit back as well?  The one I applied to the cruise balance?  So essentially, receiving $900 in Cruise Credits back from Royal?

    • I have an upcoming cruise in 60 days (that I am NOT canceling).  Can I use my Cruise Credit toward that cruise even if we've paid the cruise in full already?  Would they give me my cruise credit as On-Board Credit?  P.S. I realize I can only use my Cruise Credit, not the entire $900.

    • OOOOOOOOOOOOOR...should I wait to cancel the cruise so my Future Credit lasts longer?  Final payment on the July, 2019 cruise isn't due until April 1, 2019.  Should I cancel in March so I have a year to use all the Cruise Credit received?

P.P.S. I had no idea "Cancelling" could be spelled also with only 1 "L".  Ha!  You learn something new every day!

Thank you in advance for the help!!

    Love,
