  1. I wanted to preface what I'm writing by stating that I really do enjoy Royal Caribbean cruises and I'm currently a Platinum Crown and Anchor member. Also, I have had my 2020 vacation plans disrupted by COVID-19.

After Royal Caribbean cancelled sailings until mid September I have noticed some people on the internet saying that the CDC is not being fair toward the cruise companies. Some are stating that it's a double standard for theme parks to be allowed to open while cruise ships remain docked. I feel like this thinking is flawed. Just because something isn't fair doesn't mean that it isn't right. COVID-19 is surging right now in my home state of Florida as well as in Texas. Just coming out of our "stay at home" order has resulted in a surge of cases along with hospitalizations. This is majorly effecting health care workers and first responders. Starting cruises right now is dangerous because if a cruise ship gets an infection it can spread rapidly and treatment is questionable at sea. Consider how difficult a time the cruise companies are having repatriating crew. How much more difficult would it be repatriating or treating a foreign COVID-19 patient. Also, mask requirements would be difficult to enforce because of the stubborn nature of so many people.

I think we need to get used to the idea that some things will change going forward with cruising. Ship fleet size will probably continue to shrink. The prices for sailings will probably increase. However, starting cruising to soon can permanently finish off Royal Caribbean. Finally, please everyone be careful COVID-19 isn't a joke. Just because some people are asymptomatic others can get very sick and obviously many have died. You can't really understand the seriousness of this whole pandemic until someone you know gets sick or even passes. When this all ends I'll catch you in the Windjammer!

How many ships do they need to sail to CocoCay? I'm starting to not like this CocoCay Perfect day taking away other ports of call.  I for one will not sail on any under 6 days as it's not financial smart since i have to include airfare.  So Perfect Day is out for me unless it falls into a 6 or more day sailing.

I completely agree with you. It seems they are trying to recoup their entire investment this year!

I feel awful for those of you who are affected by these itin changes but I have NO sympathy whatsoever for Royal Caribbean.  They knew da*n well that this outcome was a very real possibility back in April but they rolled the dice and continued to advertise and book these Cuba cruises.  Now they're going to have to refund money and grovel for forgiveness when much of this could have been avoided.  If I had enough vacation time on the books (which I certainly do NOT) I would have quickly booked one of the Cuba sailings JUST to get the doubtless OBC that will come the way of those who are being inconvenienced.  As a shareholder I am incensed.  Share prices are already falling.

Completely agree. My parents are shareholders as well and are just hoping for the best. From a shareholder point of view you have to question cancelling the Independence 2020 UK season as well. With Empress and Majesty itineraries effected how many ships need to make Cococay runs?

If you could share your itinerary, times in port and what you are interested in for each stop that may prompt more responses.

Until then Alaska excursions do tend to run more pricey compared to Caribbean cruises.  However each port offers adventures that are not typically found in the Caribbean.

Sharing the types of adventures along with the budget you seek will help anyone who might respond with ideas.

My wife does want to do an excursion with sled dogs but we don't know if we should do that in Juneau or Skagway. Here's our itinerary:

  5. My wife and I are going on the 11 night Ovation of the Seas sailing on May 13, 2019. We only have 4 port days! I want to get the most out of Alaska but excursions over $400 per person are out of the picture. Don't worry we will definitely  be back to Alaska (just after Hawaii and Europe according to my wife LOL).  We aren't super adrenaline junkies but can handle some adventure. We just rode the Dragon's Breath zipline in November so we aren't leaning towards the zipline. I'm stuck right now on the Whale and Marine Mammal Cruise for $189 and the Whales, Wildlife and Brown Bear Search for $255. What do you think? Do you have any experience with either excursion? At first I was tempted to just walk the nature trail in port, visit the cannery museum, get souvenirs and walk into Hoonah. I'm coming down with FOMO though because this is a big trip to only have 4 days on land and I want to do it justice.

I receive an email about a delay boarding on serenade of the seas for this sunday. it is due to customs.

is anyone experience this on previous cruise and how long of a delay should we be expecting?

they mention to arrive no early than 12. my seapass was schedule to 11-11h30.

what time do you recommend to show up?

    thank you!

Ignore the email. I got the same email for my November 10 Adventure sailing and I was on board by 10:15.
