Like it or not facemasks will be part of the new norm for a good while yet be it on land or sea!
We will eventually be back to maskless cruising. It's just a matter of how long it will take.

Isnt that what i said in 1st paragraph? FOR A GOOD WHILE YET! I never said forever

Why? If the vaccine is 95% effective then why would anyone have to be forced to wear a mask? It does not make any sense. If I get the "shots" then why would I wear a mask. There is no logic to this.
Click the link.... the virus is mutating!!!!
So if as has been suggested by experts and reports in the link state, that this virus WILL and is changing and may change every year just like the flu virus then why would companies relax the wearing of facemasks?

Do Royal actually expect anyone (other than the most ardent cruisers - and let's be real, the majority who post on cruise forums fall into this category) to dish out thousands of pounds/dollars/whatever other currency to go on a cruise where they can't explore ports on their own, have to distance from other guests, have to wear face coverings everywhere on the ship and risk being imprisoned in a cabin if someone even tests positive for a virus?
I know it sucks for the industry big time but let's be realistic.
Thing is its not just cruiseships! Like it or not facemasks will be part of the new norm for a good while yet be it on land or sea!
Right now if you want to go into town by bus or taxi facemasks must be worn, you go for something to eat you need a facemask when you enter the premises, you go for a beer or 6 you need a mask!
If you want to go abroad then Airlines will probably keep facemasks as a code of practice for a long time, well after vaccines have been given. Hotels you need to have them and if you are in your room when roomservice arrives you need to put on a facemask before they enter.
Simple fact is the world has changed forever, things will never be like they were before.
AND if this link is true its not going to get better any time soon so we may as well make the best of what we have while we can

If anything - the moment masks were mandated in shops where I live, proper social distancing went in the bin.
Agree 100% Joe ...We (The UK) like many countries are writing the rule book day by day!
Problem was and still is that no one has a bloody clue whats going on!
We went into lockdown but you could still go to shops for food however you didnt need a mask then when lockdown was lifted we had to wear them?? Surely masks should have been implemented from the start!
Boris and Nicola have been having a "who can P!$$ the furthest " competition since this began and its been a complete shambles!!!!

We've had a lot of outdoor gatherings in the UK such as protests and gatherings on beaches and they've made basically no difference to case numbers so it just seems dictatorial to make people wear them outside.
Are you being serious? No difference to case numbers?
London = after protests and large gatherings in soho london went into a 2nd lockdown before other cities
Manchester and Newcastle : students out partying caused a rise in cases, i believe the university of Durham had over 1000 cases at one point!
Liverpool : again when restrictions where lifted and people gathered in larger numbers in bars etc cases shot up that much they had to close everything again.
The list is endless! EVEN my own city of Aberdeen was the 1st in Scotland to be put back into lockdown due to LARGE gatherings outside bars
All of these were reported in the press along with photographs of those involved not wearing masks

As mentioned at the time in my live blog from FOTS, seeing an american woman slightly worse for wear sitting in the Schooner Bar with her husband lift herself up off her seat a little , then proceeded to slip off her underwear and tuck them into her husbands jacket breast pocket ( i hope it was her husband lol )

For other diseases, you definitely want to do some research. Even when shots aren't required, there are recommendations for vaccines when you travel to other parts of the world.
I check the uk directgov website for details for anywhere i visit, not just for vaccines its full of other info such as visa requirements etc

Surprised the British Empire aren't sending their COVID patients here. I hear there are a few unused ships around at the moment.
Last thing you want is any brits turning up down under right now! We couldnt organise a p!ss up in a brewery never mind how to tackle a virus outbreak!

They've never required it before, why now?
100% Agree given the fact the Flu vaccine people get every year is a lucky dip!
No one knows what strain of flu is coming each year, the vaccine may work but then again it may not! so what is the point of asking people to get flu vaccine if its not the one needed for that years flu virus?

Qantas (due to the Australian Government, per comment from @mattymay) is already going to be requiring proof of Covid-19 vaccination before allowing passengers to board.
How times have changed! Used to be the only thing you needed to get into Oz was a criminal Record

I don't feel that this would be fair because some age groups and professions are being prioritised.
No one can argue with doctors and Nurses being given the vaccine before others!
33 minutes ago, Joe01 said:Being in the 18-34 age demographic and not having underlying conditions, I wouldn't be front of the queue for the vaccine and don't expect to be for quite some time
they hope to have everyone vaccinated by easter so its not that far away
With regards how they are rolling out vaccine, you cannot expect them to get that right when they have made a complete mess of everything else

Difficult one I know. We are waiting to hear on our 8 day in Feb 2021... the good news is that it is to CocoCay so there is a chance RCL will simply cut it to 7 days; the not so good news however is we will be travelling from the UK so may not be allowed into the country to board anyway!
This is the reason i shifted from March 21 to March 22.
So many things to take into consideration not just whether ship sails!
Quarantine rules may still be in place
The timescale involved for getting covid tests and flying to San Juan.
If its 50% capacity it may be only North Americans plus numerous other things
In the end it was easier just to lift and shift and look at booking a last minute cruise for 2021 once restrictions are lifted.

I'm not sure how RCI intends to work around that if one doesn't purchase the VOOM package. They might tweak their on board wifi to allow only Tracetogether to work.
This applies for me as only my wife purchases Voom so she can keep in contact with kids back home in case of emergency and post the occasional thing on Unsocial media (cant call it social when everyone just sits on their phones )
When on vacation i only use the camera on my phone, im on vacation i dont need to be checking my phone every time it bleeps just to find out it was a Bogof offer from Dominos Pizza etc and i dont have any unsocial media sites ( i have a life instead ) lol

Decided last week to lift and shift my plannned 2021 cruise until 2022 cancelled all cruise planner purchases first, ALL refunds in my bank today

I stand corrected. I see from booking.com that there are some hotels not too far from the port. I never noticed any on the three occasions that I have been there. I suppose that I was just not looking for them at the time. However, I still think that it would be better to stay at the airport or in Rome and take a taxi to the port on cruise day.
Must admit an extra day in Rome would appeal to me , only reason i would go to port day before is i know how bad other European countries are for just going on strike and causing chaos with trains, buses etc

Some more good news .
The Oxford/AstraZeneca vaccine showed successful results between 70% for people who got two full doses shots to 90% for people who got first 50% hot and then 100% dose for the second shots.
This vaccine is more traditional vaccine and can be shipped in normal fridge temperature. The expected price is around 8$ comparing to 60$+ for the Moderna/Pfizer one.
https://www.bbc.com/news/health-55040635
Cost of Oxford Vaccine will be about $5 at most with 90+ 3rd world or less developed countries only paying a maximum of $3 per dose.

You missed my point....you asked can RC expect things the answer is no they can only hope! They like the taxi drivers or bus companies, the small cafe you get lunch, hotels, airlines, bars and restaurants, basically every business going cannot expect people to use them they can only hope!
Its not these companies setting the rules or guidelines its the CDC or local governments who are saying this or that must be done.
The cost is irrelevant if people dont sail cruiselines close their doors which is the same for local cafes or taxi companies if people dont use their services, so no RC cannot expect they can only hope.
If these companies say we are not operating until this virus is gone then they will go bust, companies must keep going best they can just to keep their doors open, and in doing this they need to follow guidelines whether we like it or not.
If we dont like it we don't do it....simple
