twangster got a reaction from Hoski in Price Checking Really Works
Not all regions are eligible for price drops.  North America typically has always been eligible.  Most fare types are eligible, certain travel agent rates or other promotional rates might not.
One way is to go through the motions of a mock booking.  For example, if you weren't already booked and just wanted to know the price you would step through the process of booking a cruise.
Another way is using a travel agency like MEI travel (who sponsors this blog site).  They will periodically check for price drops.
The catch to price drops is comparing identical cabins.  If you are booked in a 4D balcony cabin you have to compare current pricing for a 4D balcony cabin. Sometimes a balcony may appear cheaper but it's for a different category such as a 2D balcony compared to a 4D balcony.  They won't price match different cabins categories within the same type of cabin.
Price adjustments usually involve giving up any bonuses when booked such as OBC or Kids Sail Free so sometimes it doesn't make sense taking advantage of a price adjustment.  You might save $75 but lose $100 OBC for example.
Once final payment due date has passed (typically 90 days for most cruises) there are no price adjustments, at least not for a while.  In the past they sometims offered OBC but that stopped a few years ago.

@monorailmedic  CruiseHabit was live from Equinox which is also on site sending supplies today.  You can see the tenders being lowered and a local tug coming out to the ship.

twangster got a reaction from Matt in Future Cruise Credits?
Typically they are emailed within a week or two.  They can be applied towards the cruise fare on another future cruise.   They can't be spent in the cruise planner for other purchases.
They typically expire in one year, meaning the future cruise must be depart within a year of issue.
Every guest will get an FCC and they are named to each guest and not transferable.
They can't be used to pay ports fees or taxes.
Let's say you are looking at or have booked a cruise where the base fare is $750 each plus $125 taxes and port fees each. The cruise therefore costs $750 + $125 x 2 for two people = $1,750.  You paid $500 deposit so your remaining balance is $1,750 - $500 = $1,250.
    Now you get an FCC.
You both get some amount based on what you paid for the impacted cruise, let's say it's $100 for this example.  Assuming you are both booked on this fictitious example cruise the base fare is lowered by $100 each $750 - $100 = $650pp.  $650 + $125 taxes x 2 =  $1,550.  You paid $500 deposit so your remaining balance is $1,550 - $500 = $1,050.
If you have a future cruise that is paid in full when you apply an FCC you will get a credit card refund because you have now technically overpaid.

Probably varies by state but it's quite common for airlines to advertise a mistaken rate and cancel bookings without legal repercussions.

On Navigator now, day 5 of a 3 night cruise.
Boarding on Aug. 30 they had already informed us it was going to be an extended 5 night cruise the day before. No additional costs.
I had bought the DX drink package and UDP dining package before sailing.  Both were extended at no cost.
I bought the internet on board as a "full voyage" plan.  The Voom plan was priced based on a 3 night cruise.  It cut off last night near midnight (night 4) thinking my 3 nights were done.  I visited the Voom desk this morning and they re-activated my plan at no cost.
Yesterday a letter was in my cabin to inquire if I would care to add automatic gratuity for days 4 and 5.  I had prepaid my automatic gratuity before sailing but that only covered nights 1 to 3 so I agreed and took the letter to guest services.
I've eaten at Playmakers nearly everyday covered by the UDP.
Last night for our dinner in Hooked they couldn't add the reservation in the system since the system sort of still thinks the cruise is a 3 night cruise.  In Playmakers today for lunch (day 5) they had a print-out that listed everyone who had the UDP and they manually recorded the meal for internal reconciliation later.  No charge for lunch again today.
They've done a great job with communication, I must have a dozen emails plus the announcements.
    Great experience overall.

@twangster with all your wonderful advice and info you provide on this site, the Karma gods are rewarding you!  Not to say that anyone who wasn't as fortunate deserves whatever they ended up with!  In fact, I think @Matt got a shortened trip that he cancelled if I read that correctly.

They also told us we'll get 5 nights worth of Crown and Anchor points.  Since I'm in a Junior Suite the normal bonus multipliers apply.
They offered a special on board to stay on for the next sailing which was reduced from 4 nights to 2 nights.  The price for a suite guarantee was $249 total plus gratuity.  For a couple that would be $249 total for both people.
I booked it on day 2 I think.  On day 3 I looked in the app and saw the new booking.  I was given a Grand Suite.  Ironically the suite I was given is currently occupied by a friend who is also on this sailing.  He departs tomorrow and I get to take over his suite

There is an appeals process for denials but like many things Royal, YMMV.
I got one switched after final payment due date once.  However I know that might not happen again.

If I'm not mistaken Royal is calling it a "multi-million dollar refreshment"  or something close to that.
While definitely not an amplification I am anticipating new carpet, possibly some new decor, they might rebrand the concierge club as a suite lounge, maybe a restaurant will change.  Minor changes along these lines.  The types of changes that are not major projects but can be accomplished while the ship is receiving it's routine technical dry dock.

twangster got a reaction from MrMarc in Do you think the app will ever work on Empress of the Seas?
I would imagine so.  They upgraded the control software for Voom on Empress so it acts and works just like Navigator now.  You create a username and 4 digit PIN, can switch devices the same, same login pages and it uses the "WiFi-Guest-Empress" SSID so that it can visit CocoCay with another ship present.  Once on CocoCay which is covered by WiFi you see both ships SSIDs so you can pick your ship and use your Voom account from on-board.
When at CocoCay, Empress was connected to the island wirelessly so that you could swipe your card at a bar and it goes on your Empress account.  Last year when Empress visited CocoCay every drink order was a hand written paper receipt.
The point is they are upgrading tech on all ships including Empress so I fully expect Empress to be in the app.

You have to consider the port, itinerary and season.  Some ports lend themselves to using a 3rd party, for some ports it's easier to book through Royal.
Tender ports are generally better to use Royal excursions.
As a solo traveler it's often easier to book through Royal.
If you book through Royal you must check prices frequently.  Prices are not fixed.  They vary from time to time, sometimes daily, sometimes weekly, sometimes monthly.  I've saved hundreds over the years by watching prices and rebooking when prices drop.  If you catch price drops they can be cheaper than 3rd parties.
A huge benefit for me when booking through Royal are itinerary changes.  Cruising in hurricane season in the tropics there is an increased opportunity for itinerary changes.  When booked through Royal and there are last minute changes it's very relaxing being able to grab a cocktail and not worry about it.  If you book a 3rd party it can be hectic and stressful dealing with it from the ship when there are last minute changes especially if you don't have Voom internet.

RCL has always been generous with their humanitarian efforts.
When Irma tore through the Caribbean in 2017, my former manager was vacationing with his family in St Maarten and got trapped.  Adventure of the Seas arrived there to rescue stranded vacationers including his family.  It was quite the ordeal for them, from surviving the actual storm to being in fear for their lives as looters and gangs roamed the resorts (they heard many gunshots).  After nearly a week, they were finally picked up by a police caravan who escorted all the guests to the port.  They were told not to stray and above all, have their passports because they would not be getting on the ship without them.
Needless to say, he was overcome with gratitude to the crew and RCL for their efforts.
