I just called American Airlines to move our Boston flights [cancelled GC] over to our Allure March 2021 cruise.  The rep told me that the "no cancellation fees" rule only covered itin changes up through Feb 6, 2021 but she went ahead and waived the fees for us anyway, so I was very grateful.  Not sure what other airlines are doing but I'm glad I was able to move this one without any extra charges.  Of course, the airfare itself was $600 more but at least we didn't have to pay the $400 change fees !!  If we have any  more cancellations I am going to have problems as all of my other cruises are well into 2021.  Not sure how long they will waive those fees...

@SpeedNoodles I hope the rest of your sweet babies get better. I too agree that this year has been the worst so far. I must say that with the exception of one or two jokers, this blog has been a germ free breath of fresh air.

Yeah, it's been an awful few months.  Between the Coronas, the riots this week, the sick hound, the room, one of my other pets died last night and knowing there are no cruises in the nearish future I'm pretty raw.  I do like having this group, though.

Upon the news that we have credit with JetBlue to Boston, Mr SpeedNoodles thought a short trip to Boston might be fun, so it'll all work out.  I'll just miss meeting you all.  Honestly, in all likelihood we would have had to cancel on our own.  We have to put a new roof on the house in July and one of my dogs is currently in the doggy ER - estimated bill $2.5k-9k, so ....

There are no cancellation fees, but they only give credit on future flights - no cash refunds.

I bought a flight on JetBlue for Thanksgiving, but I believe there's a temporary policy where they will waive cancellation fees.

I have credit with them, yes.  Unfortunately, it's JetBlue.  Anywhere I go from Minnesota I have to go through Boston.  We always fly direct because Mr SpeedNoodles is very afraid of flying.  Having to fly 3 1/2 hours and change planes for another flight may be worse than losing the money.  Or maybe we'll just do a trip to Boston for the hell of it.

LOL, I only know this because I’m a (Canadian) Tigers fan and have made quite a few visits to attend games in the past: https://www.tripadvisor.ca/Attraction_Review-g42139-d146680-Reviews-Mexicantown-Detroit_Michigan.html
(Judging from their user name, @Rose City Cruiser is from Windsor whose train and bus stations I know pretty well.)
Back on topic though, I don’t see the border opening anytime soon and I’m fine with that. As much as I love cruising, I don’t want to risk my health and my family’s health for non-essential travel. I’m a big baseball fan, and I’m also okay with the season being cancelled until next season.
I’m totally in the minority on this of course, but my family is taking a serious stance against Covid-19. I’m worried about my sister who is a nurse.

I would like to say please do not turn this into "lets blame RCCI for being a business and quoting op-ed pieces" like every other thread. I merely wanted to know about the bonus, thankfully @Matt posted about it on the blog. I cannot for the life of me understand why people go to pro-related blogs to complain. This is something positive that a company is doing in a very unprecedented time.

I think cruise travel will remain as a Level 3 advisory for Canadians even if the cruise ships start sailing in the summer and fall.  It is just a lot of effort and resources to repatriate back to Canada once there's another outbreak onboard.
I live in a border city.  Our people and economies are connected.  A trip across the border just for some Mexican food is the norm.  Our local economy will start whenever Detroit is ready to start.  We are really in this together.

I would think opening the border between the US and Canada would be one of the first phases, even before cruising resumes.
