Not sure of every ship but I think so. RCL has confirmed (but we all know how phone confirmation is) and normally a $5-$7 up fee for alcohol but it might depend on the drink. I'm not sure something like a rum and coke would apply since the soda is not really any extra. I have not done this yet but will be doing it on my March cruise since it would work out MUCH cheaper for me.

@twangster do you know if this is true on Anthem if you buy the refreshment package?

Another option, which is what I'm doing, is to get the non-alcoholic package and pay the alcohol fee (was told typically $5-$7 extra for them so a little discounted) for the drinks you want. (if getting more mixed drinks then beer) I do love my beer but will save that for a local beer at my stops. This way if only one person is getting it your not spending a fortune. This works better for my wife and I as she doesn't drink much and tries not to have too much sugar. I can pay the little extra when I want and enjoy a nice cool mocktail when I want lol.

Is it really an option to just pay the upcharge for the alcohol on Anthem if you have the refreshment package? I just figured you would pay full price for alcoholic drinks.

  3. First and foremost, I am asking if anyone has any experience with this, we have and will continue to consult with the doctors before making a final decision. Surprise,  surprise ! My husband had quadruple bypass surgery today. We are set to sail on Anthem Feb. 17th. Has anyone sailed shortly after heart surgery and would you do it again under the same circumstances or just cancel? We are too close to cancel and do not have travel insurance. He said he still wants to go. We are driving, not flying, to the terminal, have no active excursions or activities planned. Switched him to the refreshment package. He says there is no better place for him to just kick back and relax and that is true, he will have a hard time NOT doing things at home. If we could reschedule, I would, but RC won't budge and let us push it out a couple months.

  4. If I am not mistaken, when we board Anthem we can go to the excursions desk and pick a cabana for our day on Coco Cay. Any recommendations on number or location of cabana we should try to get? It will be for four adults. We will be bringing our own snorkeling gear.  Any other tips on what we should expect? How is the food off of the menu?  Should we just go to the buffet? Anything else on the island we shouldn't miss? And let's hope we can tender there, I am looking forward to this stop more than any other.

  5. Thanks everyone, the reasons I wanted to get the app on my tablet and not just my phone were:

    1. To be able to see my cruise calendar on a larger screen, but it sounds like I probably won't be able to see it anyway. I will be sure to go old-school and print it out and if I get really energetic, I can add it all to my google calendar.

    2. Get a reservation for the puzzle/escape room when we board

    3. Change the date/time for my Northstar reservation and

    4. Try to get earlier times for MTD.

We are also considering using the text feature. We got the Voom for 1 device, but there are 4 of us, 2 iPhones, 2 androids.

FYI we are cruising 8 nights on Anthem, February 17th-25th.

  6. Thank , that is what I figured, just wishful thinking. We used  What'sApp last year on our trip to the UK, so I am good with wifi calling. Also considering the RoyalIQ app chat feature and just taking a chance on a ship to shore call if they need us. Do you know if it is $7.95 for the whole cruise or per day? If it is for the whole cruise, the ship to shore calling would be worth taking the chance on, but if it is per day, I will just bite the bullet and get the VOOM. (Hoping we don't have to make any tough decisions about our dog before we go :( )

  7. We just found out that when we sail next month, one of our dogs will need to be boarded in the hospital, not the kennel (she is 15 and just started on a seizure med). I am thinking I should add VOOM to my drink package in case they need to contact us.  I purchased the package at $41 at the BOGO 1/2 half off price, right now it is $45 alone or $55  with VOOM, any chance they will just add it for the same extra $10 or is it going to cost me an extra $14/day by having to cancel and rebook? And, if I do have to cancel and rebook, will they raise the charge for both of them we had to buy or just the one I need to change?

  8. I have never purchased a beverage package before, but my husband and I have for our trip on Anthem in February. What happens when they offer a buy one get one free "drink-of-the-day" and you have the Ultimate Beverage Package? Will they give you both drinks at once or do I have finish one before they will give me the second? I like to take the drinks back to the room and relax on the balcony...

  9. I just called to upgrade my refreshment package to the ultimate beverage package and they would not do it unless I added the refreshment package for my husband. I quoted him the email in the above link and he would not budge. I was willing to spend over $200 more to upgrade, but he said that was an old email and that their policy changed a week ago.
