Most people will be where they would have been had the pandemic never happened.

Like all things in life there will be those that try to find the dark side of this promotion.  I don't see it.  I only see good in it.  I cruise a lot and have no concerns about the effect.

Now that they extended double points, I did just book another to get to Diamond Plus in one more cruise versus 2. We were newly Diamond at the start of the pandemic and had 3 booked. Now with 4 booked, we will be Plus. The 10 night Alaska in a JS is the one that makes the biggest difference. Of course it’s quite the dent in the wallet but memories can’t be repossessed ?

  2. Well I may or may not have just booked Harmony for March ‘22 ? YOLO

I did have the husband blessing to do so. Ended up doing a Central Park balcony, you know to save some money.

@SharlaI’ll transfer to you soon! Yippee!

Now we will be Diamond Plus by the end of our Holy Land. Really wanted to get to Plus since we’ve got bucket list cruises in Europe and this will help.

Man, if I can find a way to squeeze a third cruise into 2022, we'll be D+ for our annual spring break cruise in 2023.

    Now...how to pull that off

You and me both! I’ve got 3 bookings between October ‘21 to October ‘22 which now will award us 78 points. 14 shy of Diamond Plus.

Lucky for us we live in Florida so I’m about to start perusing the cheapest 4 night in a JS or 7 day. Now when we go is another issue. I’m sure I can find some time to go!

Unconfirmed report in an FB group of a call from Royal offering 150% FCC for the July 2nd Freedom sailing due to over-capacity.  No idea how they pick who gets called.

Wow I’m surprised they booked it over half

@JillThis is exactly how I feel. This let's me know the protocols in place are working. I am also confused as to why people seem to believe there will be no cases on board. There have been colds/flu on board, cases of stomach bugs, etc. Life happens.

Covid is never going away. You can continue to live in fear or grab life by the horns and go for it. I’m approaching 5 years cancer free from stage 4b endometrial cancer. I had a 15% chance of making it. I’m here and ready to cross off my bucket list cruises. I’m a firm believer that when it’s your time, it’s your time. I’ve stared down death. It wasn’t my time. Too bad more people don’t see life that way. No regrets baby! Hurry up October! Here I come Symphony!

  6. This is going to get reported for at least the next month or so and then hopefully will just not be interesting anymore.

Bottom line: there are going to be cases. We’ve seen the protocols work exactly as planned for 2 cruises now.

All the people freaking out (mostly on Facebook) really should just stay home. Those that are comfortable and believe in the protocols climb aboard.

  7. The only downside is that you can’t speak directly to Royal. However if you have a great TA (like @Sharla) that’s not an issue. She’s lightening fast!

I used to book through RC. I went the TA route when we were looking at booking odyssey for Italy/Greece. With hotels, flights etc., I didn’t want to mess with it plus I wanted someone in my corner if something happened pre-cruise, cruise, post-cruise etc.

We booked a 3 night on Mariner to test her out (?) and haven’t looked back.

The major upside to having a good TA-all this cancellation/FCC/OBC Covid garbage was handled so professionally.

Last, you’re supporting a business, someone’s livelihood. It doesn’t cost you anything for their service and the benefits are numerous.

It is new ….. until today, Celebrity’s policy was that you had to be vaccinated to sail on their ships.

It’s been out for 2 weeks as @CGTLHposted.

@WAAAYTOOO I don’t know how they’ll get around the CSO unless they somehow know they’ll hit that 95% mark. I think Royal put out that even with kids, they’ll still come in around 90%.

Guess we’ll all find out tomorrow!

  9. @Bemintz Royal has been planning for reduced capacity for at least a year. With a year and a half of cancelled cruises/lift and shift/refunds etc, they’ve had a plan in place.

Even now if you do some mock bookings, you’ll see outside view as “sold out.” I’ve noticed very few interior cabins available with the exception of connecting rooms.

I’m not concerned about future capacity and being bumped for my October Symphony.

Right now the biggest issue to me would be a resurgence of new cases that would impact sailing but with so many vaccinated, that’s not really probable, even with variants out there.

Adventure was a great example as to how things will be. According to @Matt, the cruise was more “normal” than not. Even with some unvaccinated on board, I’m not expecting anything that would impede my having a great time.

Doubtful ….. why would vaccinated parents want to book and pay for a cruise where the ENTIRE family will be segregated to a LESSER cruise experience because their kids aren’t vaccinated???  I seriously doubt anybody who wanted to take their kids on a FUN Disney cruise will sign up for a SEGRATED “family” cruise on RCL, they might as well just take their kids to Disney Word or on a beach vacation where they can actually have a good time for their money.

I’m talking about those eligible for a vaccine (adult) and choose not to take it. That’s who Royal is trying to discourage.

Adventure is sailing right now with unvaccinated children. They aren’t separated from their parents.

Is amazing to me to see the same people so anxious to get cruising back up and running now wanting to deny boarding to families with children. Not to mention the current vaccine concern for those 12-16. As an aside, the ever incompetent CDC pushed back “emergency hearing” on this issue until next week. CDC is a joke. They paused the J&J vaccine for less than this.

from a business perspective, Royal doesn’t want to turn away families and there is no guarantee that they ever could have met the 95% vaccinated passengers in the Caribbean this summer.

There won’t be 100% vaccinated sailings this summer in Caribbean. The adventure didn’t have 95% vaccinated rate among passengers.

what would you have Royal do? Ban all children this summer? Refund more people? There is zero way from stopping Covid on cruise ships. ZERO. and if you are vaccinated believe in science! Trust the vaccine. It will be ok if you sit with unvaccinated people! I would sit with them and I am vaccinated! I just flew on a plane with 200 of my closest friends for a 3 hour flight. Stop the fear.

These new protocols really are to discourage those who are not vaccinated to not sail for now. You’ll get the die hards but your average cruiser probably will wait.

Also.....From a business standpoint: Royal has an opportunity here to snag those Disney cruisers. Disney is shutdown. There’s no way they can start anytime soon. The unvaccinated kids would outnumber vaccinated adults. This is Royal’s chance to wow them over.

These protocols are cumbersome for the unvaccinated and that is the point.

Yes! I really enjoyed the innovation and changes in both Oasis & Quantum class ships but still keeping the feel of a Royal Caribbean signature ship. I have faith Icon will not disappoint continuing that trend. I've already warned the wife, I need a new ship (& class) smell, so Q3/Q4 2023 we are cruising LOL.

Yep us too! I’m assuming she’ll be out of Canaveral unless Miami gets it’s LNG by then.

PC would be awesome as I’m 2 hours from there. We’ve got 3 booked through October 2022. Not sure I can wait a year after that for Icon, so may have to jump on a 4 night Bahamas to hold me over.

Can see this being a future quote, "Due to plenty of positive feedback and to enhance your experience. We've decided to make these changes permanent going forward. Enjoy using your vouchers for beverages upto $13 anytime anywhere including the Diamond Club during Happy Hour."

I hope they stick with the vouchers being able to be used anywhere/anytime. That’s way better than getting drinks in the lounge And only having happy hours to redeem your other drinks.
