  1. They're starting to bring back some onboard extras that they had stopped offering due to COVID. Old article about the Sip.Tour.Brunch: https://www.royalcaribbeanblog.com/2019/12/19/spotted-sip-tour-brunch-galley-tour Basically this is a meal and a behind the scenes galley tour. The sushi making class has also shown back up for my upcoming Oasis cruise.

    Haiti

You won’t be going to a part of Haiti where you will have any interaction with the general public. Lebadee is a completely secure part of the country that is not near any city. The site is completely fenced in. Even if you wanted to, the option to get off the ship and explore Haiti doesn’t exist. You will be more safe at Lebadee than ANY other port (except maybe CocoCay!) or US city. The post above is referring to a part of Lebadee where locals can sell their crafts and other goods to tourists. It’s NOT an open market where just anyone in Haiti can walk around and set up shop. Yes, the vendors can be pushy by American standards, but to call them scary is bit overboard.

  4. For what it's worth at this point, my husband and I just finished HoTS 7-night Eastern Caribbean out of Port Canaveral. We haven't cruised since February 2020 and are both unvaxxed. I'll be honest, we were very leery of taking this trip, but couldn't move our Future Cruise Credits any further forward. We both tested at home using a home antigen test kit. We had photos of the negative results on our phones when we arrived at the port. Everything thing was normal (i.e. pre-covid) all the way through security check-in. When we arrived upstairs at the check-in desk, we were both asked to confirm that we were unvaxxed and unboostered. We were then asked to show our negative test results. We showed the photos of the negative results on our phone, and that was it. From that point on, covid or vax status did not come up for the rest of the trip. We were so relieved and had an awesome trip! Hope that helps!

  5. As posted above, this is not accurate. It is specifically listed in Royal Caribbeans policies as being prohibited. There are also ports where it is illegal and could result in legal problems. Passengers are subject to the laws of the country where they are docked, even if they don't get off the ship.

Generally speaking, you're not going to Haiti. You're going to the isolated, protected, walled off snippet of land called Labadee, which merely happens to geographically be in Haiti.

  8. Be aware that NFL+ originally stated in the preseason it would offer live game video streams for the whole regular including out of market games. Like many other victims I bought a subscription effectively becoming a season ticket holder. Along comes the regular season and all the app offered was listen to the game audio stream. Select games were available to watch in the NFL app - many including games that were on my regular broadcast TV feeds in my area. The whole "watch games out of market" has been fumbled by the NFL. Like a rookie that looked great on paper, NFL+ video streaming has failed to live up to the hype. Victims who bought a subscription directly have had a hard time dealing with the NFL+ coaching staff. I bought my subscription through Apple fortunately who instantly punted me a refund of my purchase given the sham/scam that NFL+ live game video streaming has turned into. It seems many Apple users are on the same team and grateful Apple made the right call when challenged in replay to reverse the charge on the field. NFL+ direct users who bought NFL+ directly as a way to join team NFL+ have found their replay challenge has been unsuccessful, they lost their money and were put in timeout by the NFL. I'd be leery of any international streaming plans offered by a league who has been caught like Belichick cheating during the game. It seems as if NFL streaming plans are the new deflategate of 2022. When it comes to NFL streaming plans all I've got to say is... C'MON MAN!

  9. Hi @HillaryG Our first ever cruise was 27 days B2B on Ovation from Sydney and we had obstructed view cabin 6202. Loved the ship and the crew. Pictures below of the views we had. Deck 7 should only be obstructed if looking directly down I guess! Totally fell in love with cruising, and especially RCI, and we are jumping to Diamond this time next year having already booked B2B on Grandeur in Jan 23, Venice on Explorer Sept 23 and B2B on Oasis in Jan 2024. Addicted!

  11. Day 3 Evening After Boat School and nap time, we get everyone dressed and head down to Park Cafe for a snack before dinner. The Wife is not quite back from her spa appointment, so myself and the three kiddos head down to Central Park to burn some time before dinner. We grab a kummelweck (duh), some kiwis, and some chips, and enjoy the scenery and some snacks. The Wife and our other family joined us at 5:00pm, and we enjoyed Central Park for a few minutes before heading into Giovanni's for our dinner. Giovanni's was the place I was least interested in visiting on UDP, but ended up being our favorite so far, simply because the atmosphere and waitstaff were so cool. All of the uptightness I felt for the past few days melted away, and our servers just made everything easy. It could also be because the kids are finally adapting to cruise life, but this was the first meal that felt easy. I'm gaining confidence in asking the waitstaff to make modifications to the kids selections that are more appropriate for our particular kids, and the staff has been amazing at accommodation. For dinner, I went with the mussels for an appetizer, and the bucatini alla bolognese as the main. Both were really good. Apologies for the lack of photos. For dessert, I went with the chocolate torta and the cannolis. The torta was an amazing combination of flavors (probably amplified by the several glasses of Chianti). I can't praise the waitstaff at Giovanni's enough - they handled our kids like pros. One of the chefs even came out and chatted with us for 10 minutes, really engaging us and the kids in conversation. Pro tip to any RC staff: any amount of engagement with our kids makes us parents happy. The more you engage our kids, the more loyal we are to RC. This includes housekeeping staff, bar staff, wait staff, etc. Chat with our kids, make our kids laugh, and you've got us hooked. After Giovanni's, the wife and her BFF headed out for a "night on the town", and us dads hung back with the kids. We headed to the Boardwalk and hit up the carousel for a few rides, before calling it a night and heading back to bed. Sorry i haven't taken more photos today, I will try harder over the next few days. Random Thoughts: Day 2 felt really stressful as everyone adapted to cruise life for the week. Personally, i'm an over-planner: A project manager at heart, I have to make sure everyone is happy. The first 36 hours on the ship was all I had to go on, and it was a bit rough. However, going into Day 3 evening, everything started to relax and it felt like we finally "took a breath". The kids are finally starting to adapt to ship life. The late night live instrumental music in Central Park is just wonderful. Central Park really reminds me of The Via on Anthem of the Seas - a quiet, serene place to relax. I think I prefer Anthem because its indoors, but Central Park is so well curated and designed, it has to be acknowledged how perfect of a space it is. I'm glad they're doing something similar on Icon of the Seas I've only now just noticed there's no giant TV/big screen near the pool deck on Oasis. On @Matt's Wonder of the Seas walkthrough, I recall there being a TV overhanging Central Park that's visible from Central Park as well as the aft part of the pool deck, but nothing like that exists for Oasis. I wonder why, it's such a typical staple of RC ships! The number of Genie sightings is high! Thanks to all you wonderful Star Class cruisers, the Genie wardrobe is so easy to pick out, and i'm pretty sure i've spotted three of the four Genies on Oasis. Two of them were facilitating their guests dining experience at Giovanni's. While waiting for their guests, I mentioned how awesome they are at their job (from what i've heard from other cruisers here), and we chatted for a bit about their love of the job. I didn't get any names, but rest assured, if you're cruising Star Class on Oasis any time soon, you're in good hands. Late-night Sorrento's pizza can't be beat. We just left cellular range of Port Canaveral, and Wifi is misbehaving, so no photos in this post. Sorry!

  12. Have to share that did Ovation in Alaska and planned to bring my parents (grandparents) and they were going to have one of the deck 6 obstructed views but they couldn't make it. The views were not terribly obstructed and my guess is that the deck 7 impacts are even less. Not sure that I would even factor in the obstruction and instead focus on other aspects like price and location when considering this booking if debating between these two spots. The views in Alaska are great and you can find things to look at in every direction. Quick access to a balcony is not a must, but a huge plus. Remember even if your balcony does not have the best view, you likely will want to go to other decks and look around. The views from the bridge wings, Solarium, upper decks and Two70 are all nice and should be part of your day. Sailing up to or away from a port or the glaciers can take hours so there is plenty of time to view the scenery from multiple locations, not just the balcony.

  13. On disembarkation morning we docked around 6am and we finished packing up the last of our items. Since it was only 7 and we didn't have to vacate the room until 8 we headed to the Windjammer bag-free. We were planning on just getting a plate and bringing it to a table outside since we knew it would be a madhouse in there but we found Jamie's open and empty so we grabbed a perfect window seat in there. Definitely check the specialty dining places if they're inside the WJ and tables are scarce! They had Homer Simpson donuts this morning! Cloudy deck timelapse heading back to the room. Left our sweet room attendant a tip via our new friend! We left the room at 7:45 and were waiting inside the terminal for passport facial scans by 7:56. The line looks pretty long but we were back in the car and cruising out of the lot by 8:15am! We had a great time even which such limited time to enjoy everything. We missed both the ice and Showgirls headliner shows due to being overstuffed at dinner, oops. I would definitely sail Navigator again, the slides alone were worth the trip to me! I was sad this ship has done away with the daily cruise compass. I think I could've requested them from the stateroom attendant but for such a short sailing I didn't really feel the need to. One last thought was that I loved having this European outlet adapter since it greatly expanded our charging capabilities! With 2 phones, 2 Apple watches and an Insta360, two outlets just don't cut it for an efficient night of charging.

Just because I'm a professional nit-picker - Labadee is not an island, it's a fenced-off peninsula. It's fully connected by land to the rest of Haiti, and only a 20-30 minute drive from Cap-Haitien, one of the largest cities/towns in Haiti.

  18. Got off Liberty of the Seas in Galveston on this past Sunday. My family of 4 is vaccinated, the family of 4 traveling with us had 2 unvaccinated children. Not a single one of us was asked to show our vaccine cards or the pictures of the negative tests for our friend’s kids. When we were checking in I even asked the gentleman taking our pictures about the vaccine cards. He said, “nope we don’t need to see them anymore, in fact we don’t even ask”. I was shocked, but hey it got us on board 20 seconds quicker. Maybe it’s a Galveston thing? It felt like pre-Covid days. On the second day of our cruise they dropped the crew mask mandate. A few were still wearing them, but as the week went on I’d say the majority of them threw them away for good.

  24. May I ask how you got on a trade cruise and it's your first cruise? No criticism here, just genuinely curious since it seems strange. Essentially, everyone has a free drink package. Specialty dining is on invite only because it's free. There will be a lot of cabins available to go in and view (check cruise compass for which ones). Spa, excursions still cost extra. Wifi should be free. I'm assuming all of this based on past events, but it's been the trend.

  25. The comment above mine is not true. Most people don't even carry the cup around. You only need the cup if you are using the freestyle machines, because it has a chip that activates the machine, BUT you can show you pass to any bar or server and get any drink you want and it will still be included on your package. The bars will serve you a soda or any drink they have in a glass or cup and then swipe your card, see that you have a package and your'e good to go.

  30. Our final day was a sea day and we stayed south of Ensenada chasing the sun all day. It was pretty gloomy but not tooo cold, mid 60's, and the sun finally came out a bit in the afternoon. We woke up around 7 and headed to breakfast in the Windjammer, the potato croquettes were amazing this morning if I recall. We snagged two chairs on deck 12 facing the pools after our jaunt to the WJ assuming everything would start filling up quickly! Aside from the packed walking track, the cool temps kept a lot of the chairs open till around 1pm. We had a perfect vantage point for both the belly flop and sexiest man competitions. Not sure why but it was specifically stated that it was a men's belly flop competition although I have definitely seen women compete in the past! Bundled up in Royal blue Currently the big screen is a bit sickly green with some splotches Winner of the belly flop mid dive Perfect sun shade for awhile. We had been sitting in the arched bed thing on the left but this ship has no pillows in any of them! I liked sitting in one on Oasis but with no back support it's a rough go. After hanging out nearly all day + you guessed it, a trip down both water slides, we headed back to the cabin to hang on the balcony for a bit and shower before our dinner at Jamie's Italian. Our server was fantastic and had some great recommendations for us. We ordered the Arancini risotto balls which were sooo good and the Ultimate Garlic Bread certainly can't rival 150CP's but was still pretty tasty. The real standout was the one our waiter said we had to try - the Chianti-braised short rib oh my god it was so tender, it fell right apart with only your fork! The tiramisu was wayyyytoo orange for my liking, and the Epic Brownie should just be labeled Brownie but overall we had a fantastic meal with great service. At dinner another couple was looking over at us a lot and eventually their waiter came over and offered us some of their Moet & Chandon! Couldn't say no to that! On the way out we thanked them again and she said she had received it free in her cabin and that they'd had their fill. So nice! After dinner we headed down to the casino and ended up just $4 under even! Not bad for two nights! We walked out of the casino and outside onto the deck, continuing forward and up the stairs for a nighttime helipad view. Unfortunately it was too cloudy to see any stars but we did spy 2 other ships on the horizon. This totally cool guy was waiting to help us with our packing!

It does say that. But so do all counterfeit bills so it doesn't really help if the person thinks $2 bills don't exist. They're just reacting the same way you would if someone handed you a $3 bill that says "This note is legal tender for all debts public and private."

  35. Day 3 Morning Everyone slept in a little later today, and got up around 6:30am. Dressed and out the door, we headed back to the Windjammer as it was the only real place open (Solarium Bistro is 9am, MDR is 8am, Johnny Rockets is 8am). There's always Park Cafe, but the consistency of Windjammer is what's getting the kids to eat. We got some food in them, and headed back down to mini golf to burn some time before 9am drop-off at AO. Our youngest is in AO Babies (the nursery), and they only let in one family at a time. Unfortunately this creates a bottleneck of parents trying to drop off toddlers. One of the families was in for over 20 minutes, and really ate into our reservation time. It would have been nice to have a second person checking in families right at opening time. This morning, I vowed to do all of the adult stuff I can't do with kids attached. Bathing suit donned, I headed to Deck 15 Aft. Ultimate Abyss: Super cool, a little slow, but I realized I have to lay waaaaaay back and pull waaaaay up on the front strap to gain speed. Gonna try that one again. Racing Slide (Orange): I swear I launched myself down this slide, only to end up going sooo slow. I was wearing a rash guard, not thinking it would be causing more friction. Maybe try that again another time. Supercell (The toilet bowl): What a drop at the top! Tore up my back a little bit, but spun around the bowl twice before dropping in to the landing zone. Definitely another try! Racing Slide (Pink): I ditched the rash guard for this one, launched myself down the slide, and FLEW through. Definitely ditching the rash guard going forward! Flowrider (boogie board side): I have never done this, but I have boogie boarded in the ocean. The concepts are the same, but staying centered all around is harder than it looks. I kept racing forward, then sliding back to the top of the ramp, then racing forward again. I ended up digging in my feet to control my forward/back movement. Wiped out a few times, but felt like I had better idea for the next time. The line for the water slides takes you to one of the highest points on the ship, where this morning we were coming up on the Space Coast. The VAB was immediately visible, as well as SpaceX's SLC-40 (which I mistook for LC39-A at first). As we got closer to port and I got re-oriented, I found ULA's SLC-41, re-found SLC-40, and in the distance found SLC-39A and SpaceX's new launch tower. Pretty cool for a space nerd. As we also got into port, With all of those items checked off, I headed back to AO for pickup. After pickup, we headed to El Loco Fresh and Portside BBQ for lunch. Half of us went to each, and met up at the tables behind facing Oasis Dunes. It was at this time that there was a ship wide announcement that, due to a water pipe burst, there was no running water throughout the ship. Oops. We got our food, and I have to say that Portside compares favorably to Mission BBQ for those on the eastern side of the US. Good tenderness on the brisket, the chicken is moist, and the sides are all good. The burnt ends are fantastic. The kids are still adapting and getting punchy, and some of the grownups have spa appointments, so we divide and conquer. Our middle child is super sleepy, so we take her and our other family's youngest back to nap, while the other three go to Splashaway Bay. Word on the street is they had a BLAST! Mid-afternoon, we do a shuffle for spa appointments, and I take two to do some quiet tablet time while the oldest do some boat school. Tonight is Giovanni's Table for dinner. Random Thoughts: No sign of Starlink antennas anywhere on the top of the ship. I've walked the length twice, and can't find anything looking like a Starlink antenna as shown on the other ships. No idea on headcount yet, but it's gotta be close to max capacity. AO Babies (the nursery) is fully booked on Day 6 and Day 7, so we've got the littles all day. The nursery said we can check-in a little after opening, and if there are no-shows, we can drop them off. Unfortunately we had the Escape Room booked for Day 6 morning, so we're going to play that one by ear. I'm a bit disappointed at some capacity caps. Specialty restaurants are understandable, but when it comes to entertainment, I feel like there should never be a circumstance that all of the shows are fully booked. We've been struggling since Day 1 to get Frozen in Time and Aqua80s booked, and the app just kicks us out of the reso process saying there's a problem. When I call the Reservation Help Desk, they tell us "Oh, those shows are full." Or "The only one with space left is the last day at 10:30pm". I'm bummed that the kids won't be able to experience both of these shows. I'm not sure how to resolve this, other than opening reservations the morning of? Starting to feel the fatigue of being on the Oasis class, and completely understand the draw of the smaller ships. Everything here is a hike. On the other hand, I'm also very grateful at the opportunities I have here that don't exist on Vision/Radiance-class. Trying to remember to take photos. I love the liveblogs chock-full of photos, and I have a bunch, but most are family photos I'm not comfortable putting online, and I don't want to duplicate photos that are already out there. Any requests? In the meantime, here are more food photos

  36. I have to get better about taking notes in the moment... Day 2 Evening It's taken me a while, but I'm finally realizing that while kids are pretty adaptable, tossing them into a new environment really throws them off. Everyone's bit groggy, over-stimulated, being pulled in different directions. Putting myself in their shoes, I can imagine it's hard to adapt when you're still learning the concepts of planning, strategy, where are we going to eat next, etc. The parents always figure that stuff out, but it may not be what you (as a kid) want. Our youngest (M3) came out of Adventure Ocean in a great mood, but by the time we got to lunch, he was really cranky. We first chalked it up to tiredness, but his crankiness read a little differently. We decided to bring him back to the room to nap while the older two did "boat school" (some school lessons while on vacation). I stayed back and monitored nap time while writing yesterday's Day 2 Morning post. He slept most of the afternoon, and the girls came back from the pool to change for dinner right around the time he woke up. We all changed for dinner, and went to 150 Central Park. What a classy place They had our table for 9 ready, a 5-top and a 4-top, but similar to Chops, we put all the kids on the bench and wrapped four chairs around the other side and turned the 5-top into a 9-top. The servers adapted perfectly, and were fantastic. I ordered the garden martini, and it was sooo good. Super smooth, no taste of alcohol (but it was there!). All of the food was great - the wife got the scallops and the Tenderloin for one, I got the pork belly and the lobster Thermidor. The pork belly was a little tough, but had a great flavor. The scallops were smoky and wonderful. I'm a sucker for lobster, and the lobster Thermidor was a great hit. Then came dessert. You guys, the fried cheesecake is everything. All the reviews are true. It's unreal how good this dessert is. It's the fried sweetness of funnel cake, with the creaminess of cheesecake. I'm 100% going back again sometime this cruise to get it again, somehow. The caramel popcorn on top is a great garnish. After wrapping up at 150CP, we headed over to the carousel to give the kids a few rides before heading off to bed. Insert record scratch here We're coming to realize that, while dinner with our three kids is one thing, dinner with five kids (our three, plus two from the other family cruising with us) is a whole other beast. So many more dynamics to wrangle, while trying to teach good manners in a "fancy restaurant" and not bum-rush the cocktail cart. The youngest was also in rare form at dinner, both refusing to eat and saying he was hungry. I wrangled him and took him down to Cafe Promenade where we got him two apples, and he completely changed and turned back into a happy, bouncing boy. Kids are weird. Add to this that we've eaten at four different restaurants in two days (Playmakers, Chops, Izumi, and now 150CP), we're desperately missing the consistency of MDR. We LOVE the specialty restaurants, and want our kids to have these experiences too. We did MDR last cruise, and know the menus, know the food, and wanted to branch out and try ALL the specialty dining on Oasis, but the lack of routine is taking its toll on the kids. When we were on Anthem, it was a Windjammer lunch and MDR dinner every night and the kids thrived at that routine, and so did the MDR staff, getting to know our family and our needs. After some discussion and sleeping on it, we may see if we can shimmy our way into a 5:30pm MDR seating for dinner starting Day 4. We want the kids to have a great time too, and if they're fried from the lack of routine, it kinda makes us all miserable. Happy kids, happy parents, happy vacation.

I was not there, I was not involved, and I cannot speak for another persons actions, or the reasons a person was forced into a corner to make such a decision. And I don't think I was critical of the crew being uneducated. I believe many people are unexposed to all the nuances of American currency, as I am of others' currency when abroad.

    $2 bills

It seems to me that comments about people being somehow uneducated or undereducated because they are not familiar with two dollar bills are overly critical. Their lack of knowledge regarding these bills has nothing to do with education and everything to do with whether they’ve come across something that is extremely rare. The bottom line is that a $2 bill is rare and thus a lot of people are not familiar with them… therefore a lot of people are not going to want them… thus it’s more of a hindrance to the people receiving one and probably should be avoided.

  44. Well as it turns out the Surf and Stream is not great on deck 12 forward which was where our cabin was located. I got way better service mid deck but after losing a post before uploading it I gave up on the Live portion of this blog, oops!! We are home now and had a great time! I will add some more recap photos in the following posts. On Friday after boarding/muster/excessive water sliding we had reservations at Izumi. I ordered two sushi rolls but actually received three since our waiter really wanted me to try the Tataki roll. It ended up being my favorite one! So happy he did that. The Izumi Ryu Futomaki roll was the most impressive visually but the least impressive flavor-wise. The mochi ice creams were so tasty too, especially the mango one. I will definitely be back at Izumi on future ships! How cute is this chopstick holder? I usually make one from the paper wrapper they come in. I love gadgets and things that serve only one purpose! After dinner we hit up Navigator Dunes for a round of mini golf. Always fun and a challenge when you refuse to put down your cocktail as you go along. My one-handed swings became pretty accurate by the last hole! We had planned to see the ice skating show but decided to call it a night early. Henry was there to see us off to bed! haha

    Pool towel question

It has always been my experience that towels are assigned to the folio number, not necessarily the individual sea pass card; just to say, all individuals I am financially responsible for have all the towels on one list.

  48. Good advice. I always print out everything (I know, not very ecological of me, and I don't care) and take it with me. I always seem to have a folder that is about an inch thick with everything that has transacted (from our TA and from Royal) with that cruise, everything from emails to invoices to excursions purchased/canceled, packages purchased/canceled, COVID Test purchased and results, etc etc etc.

    Formal nights?

That's me I''m so over packing suits to wear on cruises, when I'm on vacation I don't want to wear a suit I wear one to work everyday when I'm not working from home. On cruises I pack some nice jeans and button down shirts and of course fancy shoes to wear to dinner every night. I think I stopped wearing suits on cruises in 2017, I get some people love the formality of formal night and I did enjoy it for quite some time. I took my first cruise ever in 2008 but by 2017 I was over it, no more wearing 2 piece suits on cruises for me.
