  1. When we see someone with a scooter we hold the elevator for them and block anyone else from getting on until they are on. Had to do that on our last cruise as there was a couple there waiting as 2 groups just piled in and ignored the person in the scooter. Even had to give them a push as the wheels got stuck at the door. There are people out there that don't know how good it is to be able to walk and breath without any issues. It is not that hard to be nice and considerate and it does not cost anything, besides we are all on vacation. Lets all get along people!!

  4. Day 3 - Molde Sunrise was at 349am. I did not get up for it. We arrived at Molde at 8a, after a leisurely entrance to Moldefjord. Some entrance shots: We had company coming in, but the Perla wandered off and didn’t come to Molde until much later in the day: Our tour was in the afternoon, called Hiking Varden. We rode up to the top of the hill outside of town and walked back to the ship. From the top: And then on the way down: Then we stopped for coffee and lefse at the Romsdahl Open Air museum. They had moved historic house examples from all over the county: A couple more shots of Molde on our way out of town:

  5. Hi friends! So we just got back from a med cruise out of Rome, and yes, I'm still feeling those post cruise blues. I wanted to let you know what I thought about the interporting cruise to help you make an informed decision before booking yours (or to help put your mind at ease if you're already booked on it). When we booked our cruise, we had no idea we were on an interporting cruise and quite frankly, had no idea it was even a thing. About one month prior to sailing, when we couldn't get our app to work, we finally heard from RC that it would not work since we were traveling out of Rome instead of Barcelona. Truthfully, my husband and I were a little irritated by it, and although I still don't understand why it's so difficult, we would totally book this cruise again. Here's why: Since the amount of people embarking in Rome was so small comparatively, it was a complete breeze to get on the ship. As soon as we took care of show and dinner reservations, we were allowed into our staterooms and our luggage was already waiting. Since most people were visiting Rome when we embarked, the ship was practically empty. In fact, when we got to Barcelona and the next set of travelers embarked, we saw a huge difference in how packed the ship was. Please don't mistake me... Royal Caribbean does a great job of controlling the crowds, but it was noticeable. The crew members were fantastic and made us feel just as special as we would have embarking in Barcelona. We could still use the app on the ship to help us get around, as well as get the information we needed. We just couldn't use it to make reservations, which was no big deal. We had all our shows and dining reserved in about 20 minutes. (About 3 days before disembarking, we started getting notifications about upcoming reservations. I have no idea why the app started working, but it was nice.) When it was time for us to disembark, we walked right off the ship. Absolutely no lines! When we left our room, we were off the ship and met our driver in less than 10 minutes. I highly recommend the interporting cruise and my husband and I both agreed, we will definitely do it again. So for those of you who are interporting, I hope this helped you see the great advantages to booking this cruise. And for anyone considering it, BOOK IT! It was awesome!

  6. any activities (eating, being entertained, what ever) what is your favorite thing to do to pass the time while cruising? Mine, I love to people watch, I love to sit in the Promenade, on the sun deck, in a bar that has a view of passerby's, anyplace people congregate. I laugh, I cry, and I sympathize. What's not fun is when I look at someone looking at me and laughing LOL.

  7. I'm the same way. I have no problems with politely asking people to wait for "mobility-challenged" people to get on and off things. Once I bring it to everyone's attention, most of the crowd gets it. The ones who don't are in the minority and outnumbered If you're the one trying to enter/exit, try being politely, but insistently vocal. I find most people are clueless to their inconsiderate behaviors. Strike up a conversation with some of the people while waiting. Ask them if you can get on first so you don't block the door or something. I once stopped a crush of people from getting on a Green Line train in Boston after a Red Sox game because an older couple with canes was being trampled. The wife was on her knees trying to get up and the husband was being pushed into the side of the entry. I wasn't so polite that time. My wife's boss still talks about it, and the incident was well over 20 years ago.

  9. Hubby loves to watch people make horses patooties of themselves on the pool deck. Bores me to tears. I usually plop my butt in a lounger & read. I have to say though, I have trouble going to activities. I don’t know why. I love trivia and am a fountain of useless knowledge so you want me on your team! But I can’t seem to get up the nerve to go alone. I imagine myself being that solo player at the back table by myself (although I’d still win!!!). I used to be social and don’t know what happened.

  10. Greetings, The decorations are put up for you and are really a nice touch. I’ve purchased them for birthdays, anniversaries and special occasions. One of the nice things I like about them is they put a magnetic sign on your door that helps me find my room easier. Also they usually have two wire picture holders that hang from the ceiling and a frame you can use when you get home to display your pictures. The picture holder wire also has a magnet so I put them on my fridge when I get home. Hope that helps and enjoy your cruise!

  11. Hi all! After having our flight home cancelled twice and spending two additional days in Seattle, we are back home. Here is my report on the Alaskan cruise and the Ovation! Embarkation Our check in time was 11am and we showed up at 9:20 am to find at least 30 people in front of us. After listening in on conversations, it was apparent that most of the people in front and back of us were not entirely prepared to check in. Oh well, their loss. Thanks to this Forum, we were prepared and when the gates opened, we were on the ship by 11:10 am. Easy peezy. MY SUGGESTION for easier boarding....just print everything and have them in order. Set Sail, vaccine records, covid test, just have physical documents ready. Internet was intermittent and people trying to check in with screen shots were having trouble. FOOD! I start with food because that is our thing and the first thing we did other than making reservations was eating at the Windjammer! Food was overall a 9 out of 10. Windjammer - only ate there for one lunch and 5 breakfasts. Breakfast could use some variation but food was hot, looked good, and filled our tummies with overall joy. Izumi's - ate lunch and dinner there. Rolls were overwhelming. Sashimi plate was excellent for cruise sushi! Fried chicken appetizer was yummy. I though 2 times was enough for Izumi though. Wonderland - food was overall imaginative, fun, and tasty. Some stand out dishes included desserts and the liquid lobster. Would not go more than once per cruise, but would definitely go every cruise. Chops - Solid steakhouse. Good wine selection. Bone-in ribeye is outstanding. Lobster bisque and mushroom soup were outstanding! Ate there twice. Jaime's Italian - OUR FAVORITE. I am a classically trained chef turned lawyer. Fresh made pasta was exactly what sold us here! The sauces were tasty and in the correct proportion to pasta unlike Americanized Italian places. Funny, Jaime's is British-Italian, but the food here tasted closer to what we have eaten in Italy than most places. Stand out dishes included Pavlova dessert, ALL pastas, Meat plank, and burrata cheese! MDR - This is the only place where I experienced service issues but I will address those later. Food was overall okay. Above average. Nothing stood out, nothing was bad. Oh...order the Baked Alaska! Last time I had Baked Alaska and Cherries Jubilee was in 1984 LOL. Room Service - prompt, hot, edible. Hot Dog Stand - good enough to satisfy cravings. Sorrentos - Not bad at all. Fish and Ships - fried to order and worth at least one trip. By the way, I am not sure this works for all ships, but UDP worked here for fried lobster tails and premium items. Cafe Two70 - Nice change of breakfast pace and quiet place to enjoy breakfast, enjoy incredible views, and play some card games or board games with the kids after breakfast. La Patisserie - Not quite Starbucks, but got me going in the right direction every morning and every evening. Solarium Bistro - It was okay. I was happy. DRINKS! Since I watched many bartenders open new bottles of liquor and paid attention to them making my drinks, I can say that the drinks were not watered down, but not exactly super strong, except for limoncello!!! Wine selections were nice considering this was a cruise ship. Cocktails were tasty. We loved the Bahama Mama and anything with KRAKEN! Service Guest services lines were a little long at times. I am always up at 4am and go to sleep at 11:00 pm so this was not an issue for me. The ONLY issue we had was that the pre-purchased Arcade credits were not properly applied to our kids' sea passes and there is no way to figure out arcade balances other than stopping by Guest Services or manual computations. Service at all specialty restaurants and bars was excellent. MDR service wasn't bad. It was slower than I would expect, but I am not one to eat in 45 minutes and run off. A 90 minute full service meal is more than acceptable. Ship Condition Did I mention that the Princess Ruby ship in front of us was rust stained and looked dilapidated? Ovation was immaculate! Enough said. Activities and Entertainment Enjoyed all of the shows and trivia. We did Flowrider, Ripcord, Bumper cars, Northstar....pretty much did everything. I highly recommend Northstar at a port and not at sea. We did it twice, once at port in Seattle and once at sea. Nothing much to see at sea. Ripcord by iFly was simply AMAZING. Do it. All ages. Do it. Internet We had one surf and stream and one basic. Get basic. Either way, internet is slightly better than DSL from 2005. Complaints A. Stupid people. B. Dumb people. C. Some public toilets did not flush automatically and were inconvenient when I forced my kids to poop outside the room in the public restrooms. D. Nothing to do from 4am to 6am. E. Too much to do from 8am to 11pm. F. Either Pixels has two different versions, or I fell asleep at the first one. My friends showed me pictures of the second showing and it looked quite different than ours. G. Make Solarium pools aged 25 plus please! Too many teenagers and college kids. It was gross. Spent more time in the indoor pool with little kids and enjoyed it more. HIGHLIGHTS, KEY TAKEWAYS and TIPS 1. Got to meet Chris Wong. Nice guy. 2. Stop gambling while you are ahead. I made out with winnings of about $370 from penny slots. Not bad. 3. Take advantage of the trivia games in between activities and meals. It is a waste of time to go back to your room for 30 minutes and come back out. 4. If you get the Food packages, RESERVE AS SOON AS YOU BOARD! We saw too many people complain about wait lists because no reservations. 5. If you are unsure of the Deluxe Beverage Package....I drink one glass of wine or beer a month. Period. On the cruise, I had at least 4 cocktails, one beer, one glass of wine, and 3 specialty Americano or Lattes each day. On top of that, I had one soda a day and took back 4 bottles of water to the room each day. It is worth the money to get a package. 6. Find the secret spots early. The outside seating at Windjammer ALWAYS had seating, and we spent breakfast there while the ship's back was turned facing Dawes Glacier. Trust me. Also, Deck 5 next the the Art Gallery, but aways from the smoking section...chairs facing the ocean and unusually warmer than most places on the ship considering its outside seating. Grab a glass of wine from the Wine bar and sit here to relax. Quiet and peaceful. 7. READ THIS ONE. Finding whales and other sea life....Watch the TV channel that tells you where you are and shows the ship's front camera. While watching, you will often see streaks of water (wake) left behind by dolphins, orcas, or whale....then grab your binoculars and look outside, you will see them passing! Great way to find sea life. 8. BIGGEST TIP FOR ALASKA RIGHT NOW! DO NOT OVER PACK. We each had one carry one rolling suit case and a back pack. Wore suits and dresses on formal nights. You do not need all of that clothing. You simply do not. Pay $35 to have underwear and T-shirts washed. Its cheaper than checking in suitcases on the plane. Plus, our flights home were cancelled twice and we were lugging around our luggage alot of that time. Thank God we packed light. You do not need all of that clothing. HUGE THANKS TO ALL OF YOU AND MATT for making this trip so amazing despite Covid, anxiety, the long wait, staffing shortages (which we experienced none), and despite raining the entire 13 days we were in Alaska or Seattle. Thank you!

I thought if we canceled our third guest, RC would reprice the cruise & there would be very little difference AND they might move us to a J2 cabin. BUT my TA called & they told her no reprice, just a refund of my daughter’s portion of the total and no cabin move. We have til final payment to decide. What a nice surprise!

  16. Day 2 - At Sea I set a “just in case” alarm for this morning because I had a massage at 8a. I needed it! Jumped up at 745a and booked it to the spa. MisterZ slept until I got back, so I guess we were both tired! The rest of the day was pretty casual, just drifting wherever things looked interesting. We had dinner in the MDR. We have a table to ourselves right against the window. It’s quite nice. MDR shots: Pumpkin soup: Tenderloin: Chicken and Asparagus Pie: Duck a L’Orange: Carrot cake: Apple pie: As you can see from the chicken pie and the actual apple pie (not an Apple Blossom), we recently left the British Isles and have some leftovers Looking down the center of the Centrum from the Loyalty Desk on deck 11: We saw the Jack Pack, a swing group that did well on Britain’s Got Talent in 2014. They were decent: Our studious towel animal:

  17. Definitely can see both sides. For me I am starting to get past my "I miss cruising" phase and headed into my "I miss hanging out with my group of friend's while on a cruise" phase ... since a good number of them cant cruise because of the restrictions that has me looking at "where can we go as a group without boarding a cruise ship" which reveals lots of other destinations .... and ultimately is going to cost the cruise lines business if they are the only vacation destination that doesn't allow the unvaccinated to participate.

  18. You can definitely use the pool or anything else that's open (water slides, Flow Rider). You can put your swimwear in your carry-on bag (also keep things like charging cables, sunscreen, medication). Rooms are usually open by 1 or 1:30. You can change in any public locker room (I wear my swimsuit under my clothes on day 1!)

  21. Ok, better late than never, right? We woke up on Monday the 6th and were very thankful for the 3 hour time difference since we got in so late. We didn't have to be at the Marriott to meet with the land tour director until 3pm. We had our free breakfast at the Embassy Suites which was the standard Hilton free breakfast fare with the addition of an omelet station and a pancake/French toast station. I got the impression the omelet guy was new, and most of the ingredients in mine were a little bit burnt, but otherwise the food was ok for a free breakfast. We decided to go ahead and check out of the Embassy Suites and move over to the Marriott as they would hold all our luggage until our room was ready. Again, it was easy to get an Uber from mid-town to down town. We checked our luggage with the bell hop, took a picture with the bear in the looby, and walked a few blocks to the Anchorage Museum and Discovery Center. I read reviews that it would only take an hour or two to get through the museum, and they were wrong. After 3 hours, the kids were done (and hungry), but we still had quite a bit to see. Needless to say, cranky kids always win, so we missed couple sections. This museum is a good mix of art, history, and kid's science. I wish we would have started with the kids section and skipped a couple of the modern art bits, as that's just not our thing. It was interesting, but I guess I'm more of a landscape girl. The exhibits on local cultures were fascinating and DD and I could have stayed another hour or two just in that area. At about 2pm, DS had really had enough, and was ready to gnaw his own arm off. We headed back towards the hotel and stopped at Alaska's Gourmet Subs. DH had a meatball sandwich and said it was good, but he's had better. DD and DS both got the peperoni pizza (no one was ready to try reindeer sausage yet). DS said it was ok, but DD said it was the best pizza she's ever had. Big words coming from a super taster! We got back to the Marriott just after 3pm and walked up to the table with the Royal Caribbean sign. Turns out there's an orientation we get to sign up for! We thought this was great because we had no real details for the land package. I mean, we knew where we were supposed to be going, what things were included, and had the list of the optional excursions, but not much beyond that. They offered the orientation at 3, 4, 5, 6, and 7pm. If your flight got in after that, the tour director met with you in the lobby the next morning. We selected 4pm so we would have the night free. We checked into the room, got our luggage delivered from the bell hop, and headed back downstairs with our pre-land tour covid tests in hand. We were ushered into a little room with 5 other people who were on the 3B tour and met our tour guide. She passed out a more detailed itinerary, which had listed most of the expected times we would be at places and when we needed to leave our bags in the halls, etc., but there were still some gaps. She also gave us a list of optional excursions, which didn't quite match what was listed on RC's excursion list. Her list was much shorter and one of the options we really wanted was not being offered. The way excursions work is that you sign up from her list, then she calls to see if there is room on the excursion, and if so, your card is charged. After 30 minutes, we were sent on our way. No one ever asked to see our covid results. With our new list of excursions in hand, we headed back to the room, ordered Chinese via Uber Eats, and called it a night. Bags had to be in the hall by 6am the next morning, and we had to be ready to get on the bus at 7:30am.

  22. I would firmly disagree with people arriving more than 30min before their boarding time. This is why the lines, are what they are. If everyone has copies of documents and everything in order, then the check-in and boarding process will be a snap. There is a purpose to having staggered boarding times: someone with a 1pm boarding time shouldn't be there at 11:30 because they cause issues for people who will/should be boarding at that time.

When we did our first cruise with kids, my sons, about 7 and 9, were not offered a children's menu, and they only ordered from the regular menu. They also spoke politely to our other dinner companions and ate like an adult. I advocate cruising as a good way for teaching dinner manners to young gentlemen and to keep them from being finicky eaters.

  27. My family loves playing games so we always bring chess as well as a few board/card games. We can usually find a quiet place such as Schooner Bar (when there isn’t trivia going on) or Viking Crown and will sit there for hours playing. We also spend a lot of time on our balcony if the sun isn’t shining down on it too strongly.

  29. Oh my...hope you get to read my reply today....Please see below. Here are some last minute tips: 1. Arrive early...at least 90 minutes prior to boarding time. On embarkation day, we arrive around 9:15 but had to walk about 5 minutes from where our Uber driver dropped us off. Our Uber driver knew some of the security and we got as close to the terminal as possible. I wouldn't count on that being your case. Arrive early. On debarkation day, I could see that people started lining up at around the same time, 9:00 am. We watched people line up from our balcony until time to debark. By 9:15, when we were asked to leave the room, there were about 30 people in line. This is in line with what we experience the week prior. 2. Have paper documents in hand. Have them in order of persons in your party to be checked in. Cascade passports, set sail tickets, and Covid Test results in order so that the staff can just check/scan everything easily. Do not depend on smart devices. Even screen shots are not reliable because there is virtually no place to charge while in line and some people ran out of juice. The staff personally told me (at least two people) paper documents are faster. 3. Go get in line before you check in luggage. Then, have one person take the luggage across the way to check them in. Be prepared and have luggage tags properly affixed to the checked in luggage. 4. If you board with a party of family, make La Patisserie your home base while making reservations. They have great seating and is close to Chops. See below. 5. Dining - if you need to reserve dining, go directly to Chops. Some posts here say any Specialty Restaurant can make all reservations. NOT TRUE on Ovation. Izumi host could not reserve anything but Izumi. Chops host can do everything for you. Write down days and times you get. This is the FIRST THING you should do after boarding. DO NOT GET DRINKS. DO NOT GET FOOD. MAKE DINING RESERVATIONS. I say this because the wait list for Jaime's and Chops was a page long EVERY single day when we went. Luckily for us, we had reservations. 6. Activity and Entertainment - Make these reservations next. Pixels requires a reservation. Do this immediately. Good show, great venue. Packed. Reserve all port day (free) Northstar and iFly/Ripcord activities. You only get one freebie but reserve them immediately. Like I said before, Northstar on sea days was not as good as at a port. We went on Northstar at port in Seattle for free. We paid on the 6th day. Sea day was nothing special on the Northstar. 7. Drinks - if you have drink packages, get your FreeStyle cups from the middle kiosk between La Patisserie and Sorrentos. They have them in boxes. No need to go to the bar to do this. Then you can go and rinse them out at Sorrentos and have soda right away.

    2 Reservations?

In @Ampurp85case, if she booked a second person into the “paid” room and she stayed in the casino comp, it seems like it would be ok ? The second name on the paid booking would check in but she never would. She would just be a no-show for the paid booking. Would they cancel the casino comp just b/c she didn’t show for the paid room ? That’s the important question.

  38. As @twangsterstated earlier, "Food is personal" as well as subjective. The key point, at least to myself, made by the OP @DocJr was " my first ever cruise". My advice to all first time cruisers is eat in the MDR every night that way you know what both the included no extra cost food is like and the MDR atmosphere. I would say on your 2nd cruise then try stepping out to either Specialty Dinning or the Windjammer for dinner if you like, as you now have something to compare those venues to. In this case for @DocJr i would modify my aforementioned advice if in a Grand Suite or higher and have the Suite Concierge make you CK (Coastal Kitchen) reservations and eat there every night for dinner for the very reason that you now know what is included with your suite on this class of ship. You can always try something else for your next sailing. BTW don't forget to eat breakfast and lunch in CK also, at least a couple of times. Enjoy your FIRST cruise!!!

    Was I wrong?

It seems like cruises that have been booked before the CWC policy ended, have a bit of leeway. I had booked a cruise on my Oct 2021 sailing. I was fully expecting to pay a change fee for moving the sailing but to my surprise, no change fee. Moved from a 4n Freedom to a 5n Grandeur with ease.

    Was I wrong?

I got the same surprise not too long ago. We had a cruise booked quite a while ago in a JS for 3 people. My daughter decided not to go so I thought they would do a reprice for 2 people at current rates. We only booked this cruise so my daughter could use her $250 FCC which wasn't her money to begin with. I thought it would be a nightmare scenario because the price of the cruise had gone up in the room category we had but we might have saved a bit of money if we switched to a 2 person JS, repriced it, and made it nonrefundable I forget what all happened but my daughter told the Royal agent we could apply her $250 FCC to our cruise fare. The cruise price reverted to the price had we originally booked the cruise for 2 people --- no reprice was done plus we got the $250 FCC applied to our cruise fare. The cruise was refundable so her share of the deposit was also applied to our cruise fare. We had only paid the deposits on this cruise but our remaining balance due decreased significantly. We kept the same room and it was still refundable and no change fee.

  44. I thought I read somewhere it was something like within 3 cabins....but I am not at all sure about that. My kids will be two doors down....one cabin in between us. First time I see whoever is staying between us, I will make it clear to them that if they are disturbed by my kids in any fashion whatsoever I would like to know, and my kids will wish security came and got to them first

    Was I wrong?

It's rare that they would force a move to a double occupancy only cabin. The price doesn't change because you're paying a premium for passengers 1 and 2 in a 3+ occupancy room which is often more than they would cost in a double occupancy room. It's when you don't secure that third person on your initial booking and go to add them later that it causes a reprice. That's why I always advise to book the third initially. Even though it requires the additional deposit it will lock in your rate. The deposit will get rolled into your total payments made towards the cruise if you drop the third person.

We are booked for our third Thanksgiving cruise on Anthem. Same ports each time. And when we did a 3 day cruise for my husband's birthday it was the same ports. My sons just did a week on Oasis, same exact itinerary as our Thanksgiving cruises. I like the ship more than the ports, so I don't mind at all. And the kids are happy just hanging at a beach, so they don't mind either.

  48. I have a feeling that fairly or not, cruise lines will be holding onto at least some of these protocols well past the point were most other businesses deem it nessesary. (Which is largely already the case) Mainly because of the unreasonable scrutiny they are held to in the media. If just one unvaccinated person gets COVID and dies and it can be traced back to a cruise ship, the torrent of negative headlines decrying how ships are death traps will be overwhelming. Until the lines feel that they are willing to weather such a storm, I don't see a blanket dropping of vax requirements. Now luckily, death rates continue to go down, so maybe that time is moving up faster than I realize, but I wouldn't count on it happening this year.

  49. With the questionable state of the world economy my opinion is that no option will be left off the table to keep bookings up. This would definitely apply to finding work-arounds to get unvaccinated back onboard to keep profits up, nothing drives policy change more than the mighty dollar.
