Travel Day Post After a 4:00 AM wake up call, we were on our way to the airport to catch the first flight. Unusually, lines for both checking bags and security were shorter than expected when we got to the Orlando airport. We did have a bit of a holdup before we could get to our gate though. One of our bags had to be searched because they didn’t know what something in it was. So they took it aside and pulled out our lunchbox that we brought to eat on the second flight. The perpetrator was a block of cheese. Luckily that didn’t make us late for the first flight and we got on with no problem. Sadly my dad couldn’t sit next to the rest of us on the plane, but he was only a row up and across so it was alright. The flight was smooth and I got a cup of hot tea about halfway through. We got off at Toronto and only had an hour and fifteen minutes to get through customs and catch the flight to Vancouver. Customs was pretty easy too, we had to walk a lot and then we got to the desks with the people checking everyone. You show them your face and passport and they make sure you are who you say you are and then they ask if you’re bringing any food. If you had meat or dairy, they had to make sure it was sealed and from the USA. We had brought salami and that troublesome block of cheese so it took a little longer but then we were on our way to our gate. The best part about customs was that we got to skip the whole security line. Then we were on our way to the flight to Vancouver and got there just in time to board. The five hour Vancouver flight was tiring. This time they had soda so I got Sprite and my mom got Diet Coke. I tried to sleep on the plane for a bit, but I’ve never been able to sleep that well when we’re flying. When we started the descent to Vancouver, we saw the mountaintops peeking out from the clouds and it all seemed so magical. Once we got our checked bags, we headed over to pick up our rental car. It was a little small for all our stuff, but we made it work. Then we were off to the Lynn Canyon to see the suspension bridge. The whole forest was like we stepped into a fairytale and we hiked for an hour. We might have done more, but there were so, so, so many stairs. Either way, I highly recommend it, just don’t forget your water bottle and camera. We got to the Airbnb which was rather comfortable and had our airplane leftovers for dinner. Then we got the must do of any vacation: ice cream! It was at this cozy little place called Welcome Parlour Ice Cream that had a kind of sampler dish where you could get four scoops of ice cream. I shared it with my brother, Jonathan, and it was amazing. Then we met a very friendly dog who just loved attention. It was nice that even though we had to leave our dog at home, we still had dogs around. Finally we got back to the Airbnb and Jonathan and I just fell straight asleep, excited to board the ship the next day. Stay tuned for my Alaska Adventure!

I do think Royal should be more honest about certain things. For example, I am taking 3 of my teenagers on Liberty next month for their 1st cruise. One of the things they were looking forward to was watching outdoor movies. The movie screen has been broken for almost a year on Liberty, but they still advertise on their website how you can, "Watch a Dive-In Movie on the 220 square foot movie screen". If they have no intentions of fixing the screen, don't advertise it and get families hopes up.

Got an e-mail about our successful Royal Up from an Inside Cabin to a Junior Suite on our June 26th Scandinavian sailing (7 nights). The sailing is on Voyager and we bid a bit above minimum. Nice that they told us about the upgrade more than three weeks in advance. The inside cabin costed about 700 euros per person and includes gratuities and the Deluxe Beverage Package. Our bid for the Junior Suite was 180 euros PP so all in all we paid less than 1.800 euros for a week's sailing in a Junior Suite and that includes gratuity and the Deluxe Beverage Package x 2. (1 euro is about 1,08 USD right now.)

Unfortunately I had to book cruises to use expiring FCC's. I didn't feel I had a choice. I had no crystal ball to foretell the future. This announcement of the cessation of FCC expiration dates was salt in the wound. My mistake was letting greed get in the way of common sense. I jumped on the 125% FCC offer instead of a 100% refund. If I was allowed a do over I'd take the cash refund. I never imagined the cruise restart came with the need to accept less and assume the position that we should be happy we are cruising at all.

We got our Covid test test done this morning Bermuda here we come. First cruise since 2018 I am ready to go. Cost 60.00 at the local Pharmacy in and out in around 30 minutes.

I just used my 1050 cert for a SC booking solo. I lost the CAS balcony discount and shareholder OBC both of which was expected. I kept my solo DP340 discount though. In the end I realized $2,250 in value for the Pinnacle milestone but only because my cruise started out at $2,799. If I applied it to a more costly cruise with a higher base fare I would have received all of that $2,400. The best way to use the Pinnacle cruises is to go seven nights to the Caribbean in a balcony during the summer or spring break peak if your goal is get the most mileage from the free cruise cert. You can get a larger balcony category for maximum value. Or do a cruise somewhere more exotic that is over $3k if you want to maximize the $2,400 option. By paying some out of pocket you get points for the certificate cruise. I used my 700 cert for a spring break large balcony since I was supposed to go with a teacher who had to vacation during the school spring break. That was a $4,200 cruise that I just paid the taxes & port fees plus gratuity. Its well known that the $2,400 option isn't combinable with some discounts but you can still do pretty well like my upcoming Star Class cruise which will cost me around $500 out of pocket. Not bad really.

I'm done feeling sorry for myself. We're going and that's that. The stock market continues to whittle our nest egg away! We might as well spend the $$ while we have it

Opinion Alert: I interpret the staffing problem as one of need to get as much $$ back to the investors as RCCL can. Fixing the issue is easy but very costly to the investors. Don't bring all of the ships back online if you do not have the manpower to do so. Cutting amenities and services along with raising prices dramatically and trying to put every ship back in to service (Including the Mega $$$$ Wonder) was their answer.

And we're back for our regularly scheduled programming. Our dinner at Le Jules Verne (on the 2nd floor of the Eiffel Tower) was, without a doubt, the highlight of this trip. I have not previously eaten at a Michelin Star restaurant, and this experience was, from the very first moment, absolutely world class. Given the tone of the evening, we splurged a bit on our transportation and used Uber Berline (the French equivalent of Uber Black). We were picked up in a Mercedes V-Class (Which is basically a van, but it was super nice inside). The Restaurant We arrived at the Eiffel Tower about 25 minutes ahead of our reservation, so we walked around a bit beforehand. After about 10 minutes or so, we approached the entrance to the restaurant, where the host immediately greeted us, verified our reservation and escorted us to the lift. The ride to the second floor takes a little time, and it does feel a bit disconcerting because the lift moves at an angle (by necessity). We were both caught a little off guard by the horizontal movement, but recovered quickly! Once inside the restaurant itself, we were greeted by no fewer than a dozen of the restaurant staff. They clearly intend to make guests feel welcome, and they did an incredible job. The ambience in the restaurant was calm and relaxing. The restaurant is well lit, but not bright, and the view of the city is absolutely breathtaking. The layout is cozy, too. We were closely seated near other guests, but just far enough away to ensure some amount of privacy. Given the space constraints, I think they managed the layout of the restaurant rather well. The full spoonful begins with a light and fluffy cloud of crab consomme, which holds its flavor for just a moment before giving way to the caviar suspended in apple jelly. The flavors are light and crisp throughout. Sea Bass The sea bass is so thin as to practically be a carpaccio. There was the faintest hint of the vanilla, but the full force of the flavor is the fish combined with a spoon of the green pea and mint sauce. Just absolutely outstanding. Langoustine This is the dish I was most skeptical about, because I am not a fan of beetroot. We were actually considering trimming down to the five course menu because of this dish. I’m glad that we did not, however. The beetroot jelly itself was not overpowering, which is generally my biggest critique of beet flavored dishes. The ravioli was delectable, and I think I finally know what al dente actually means as a result of this dish. Cod The highlight of the cod is not the fish itself. The cod was cooked plainly with little in the way of embellishment. The sauce, on the other hand, was marvelous. The combination of bouillabaisse, olives and capers was intensely delicious. This was my favorite dish of the evening, owing entirely to the sauce. Farmhouse Poultry Okay, it’s chicken. But I will be referring to chicken as farmhouse poultry from here on out. This was Ashley’s favorite. The chicken was perfectly cooked, with just the lightest addition of a crispy, savory skin. Included on the side were two tiny morel mushrooms in a garlic sauce that was absolutely to die for. Strawberry The strawberry dessert was perhaps the weakest dish of an incredibly strong menu. It wasn’t the star of the show, by any means, but it was a great palate cleanser prior to the chocolate dessert. In any other restaurant, this would have been the highlight, but in comparison to the rest of the menu, it just didn’t quite hit the same notes for me. The meringue was good, and the flavors were on point, though. The rhubarb tart at the bottom did provide a needed bit of texture as well. Chocolate The souffle was marvelous. Perfectly light, elegantly balanced and supplemented with the absolutely correct amount of tiny bits of chocolate ice cream, this dessert was the perfect conclusion to an incredible meal. I finished feeling full, satiated and knowing that I had just eaten the meal of a lifetime. Extras In addition to the main menu there were some small aperitifs beforehand and a pair of amuse bouche at the end, and a bit of bread that we didn't really touch. The server warned us that 'once you start eating the bread, you won't be able to stop!' Drinks We were given the option to start with a glass of champagne, which we indulged. Aside from that, we settle on a nice bottle of Riesling for the main dishes. For dessert, Ashley got a pleasant port wine and a savored a wonderful glass of cognac. The Staff I would be remiss if I didn’t mention at least once again how incredible the staff was at this restaurant. There was never a moment in which I felt uncomfortable, out of place, ignored or anything other than welcomed and inspired. Every member of the staff was pleasant, jovial and ready to ensure we had a delightful experience, not just with our food, but for every moment we were there. In all, we were at the restaurant for FOUR HOURS, leaving at around 11:30pm. So my earlier nap turned out to be quite useful indeed. We had expected 2.5-3 hours at most, but I won't complain. I enjoyed every single minute of it.

Its funny how i started this cruise with a basic schoolboy error and i finished it with another..however this one could have been more serious. I mentioned how we basically just queued for 3 hours at Copenhagen Airport on way home and only had time to pop into 1 shop in Duty Free. This shop was for myself as i saw a sweater i wanted much to my wifes dismay. Due to being rushed i left my flight bag in the fitting room and did not notice until i actually sat down on the Aircraft. Realising what i had done i informed cabin crew straight away of the situation. I informed them that i wasnt worried about the bag, i didnt want flight delayed as it was my own fault and we were basically away to take off at any minute, i just wanted someone to get my bag and destroy the contents ( prescription medicine in it ) i explained that the last thing i wanted was a child finding pills and thinking they were sweets so if someone get find bag and just destroy. Ground crew came on and informed me that they couldnt get me my bag back and if i wanted it i would have to disembark and get a later flight. This wasnt what i asked so i informed ground crew that i wasnt delaying flight i just wanted someone to destroy contents of my bag So i buckled up and waited for take off when suddenly air stewardess appears with my bag! To say i was shocked was an understatement and even more so when she told me she had talked with the pilot and informed him that my only concern was the bag was found and destroyed to prevent possible harm coming to others, the pilot was that unhappy with ground crew he actually got off plane and retrieved bag himself..BA flight 815 i salute you

Let's get out of the giggle weeds for a moment. Let's forget for a moment that there is/was a global pandemic and a global supply chain interruption. Let's say it very clearly and down to the basics: If I go into a fast food hamburger joint and I attempt to order the most expensive hamburger or my favorite hamburger on the menu and I'm told that it isn't available, for WHATEVER reason, I have the option to order something else or leave the establishment and not pay a thing for entering the restaurant. I know, before I buy, that an/the item I wanted is not available. Not so on a cruise if the cruise line isn't up-front and totally transparent. You've already spent the money, you've already entered the establishment and are locked in and can't just walk out. You don't know that an item isn't available until you want to use it, or consume it (example: draft beer in the English Pub), or buy it. And you won't get a reduction of the cruise fare that you already paid for because of the lack of availability, it "ain't" gonna happen. You may be lucky if you are a squeaky enough wheel and get a minor discount on a follow-up cruise. The pandemic and supply chain has nothing to do with doing the right thing, period.

@Wafa I do a lot of solo travel, and I echo what @Ampurp85 says. The best part of solo travel is being able to do what you want to do. I love traveling with friends and family, but there is truly a freedom to being on your own. The wonderful part of a cruise is that you can be around people or just enjoy your own company and a good book. When I want to meet folks, I find that doing the trivia is a great way to strike up a conversation(I love Schooner Lounge). I'm not sure what you need in terms of 'being catered to' as a solo traveler. Whether you are with companions, or by yourself, your trip is what you make of it. I don't feel as if I am treated any differently being a solo traveler. I may have to pay a bit more for my room, but I do a lot of work to find fares that work within my budget. Tips that work for me as a solo traveler: I'm a bit of an introvert, so I keep a book with me so that I always have something to do. In terms of excursions, if I don't know the port well, I make sure to book a tour through RCI. If I am comfortable after the tour, I might wander on my own in the city. You will love your trip. Do lots of research about your ports and find the things you want to see before you get on board. Last, but not least, enjoy yourself!

I am often a solo female cruiser, and my advice is to live your best life. I am a cautious woman, so I still do all the safety things I should, but mostly I am just free. I have done Europe as a solo woman and would often do special tours and group day excursion.............where more often than not, I am invited to join couples and friends. It will be your choice as to who you want to be around when invited and what you want to participate in. The amount of freedom that comes with doing anything solo is amazing but if you aren't used to doing things alone, and even when you are, there will be small periods of loneliness but that can be easily remedied especially on a cruise. Most people who cruise are wonderful and friendly, so you won't ever have to be alone unless you want to be.

Made it to Barcelona. Tested at SFO airport with Emed tests before getting on plane. All four of us tested negative and before taking test I verified that UTC time is on results which showed June 3, two days before sailing. Nice hotel in Barcelona. Pounding some beers and headed to Gothic Quarter for dinner.

I doubt it as they don't print out a receipt for signature. I always tip $1 per free drink to make sure they are recognized.

Me, too -- drives my DH crazy!! Problem is, by nature I am not a very organized person, so I need those lists to make sure everything is done. I, too, am of the school of - better to have and not need, than to need and not have!

Not a silly question at all ! If the restaurant is open and accepting customers, your UDP will permit you to dine there.

Still working on the next few updates (I'll have some time on the trains to Barcelona), but first - yet another train update! Let me start by saying: I think the train service in Europe is mostly fine. When things are running on time, everything is great, smooth, easy-to-use, etc. But holy cow, when something does go wrong, it is an absolute disaster of communication failures, confusion and 'not-my-problems.' We arrived to the train station in Paris 30 minutes early, and almost immediately learned that the first leg of our journey to Barcelona was delayed by over 1.5 hours. That's a pretty big issue for us, since the time between connections in Valence is only 40 minutes. Even now that we have boarded our first train, I am not confident that we have a way to get to Barcelona from Valence. No one seems to know anything other than 'we'll have more information once the train departs.' It's basically impossible to get help from the station employees who barely speak English at all, and the online websites and apps where tickets are purchased are even worse. We actually attempted to get our tickets exchanged for a direct journey for over two weeks, but never heard back from the train line. While we waited for the train, we ended up getting lunch at Pret a Manger (French Starbucks, basically), which was pretty decent. Nice sandwich, at least. The 'good news' is that we do receive automatic compensation for the train delay of 25% the cost of the ticket. Unfortunately, that compensation is provided in the from of a voucher (basically a gift certificate to be applied to another future train ride). As non-residents of the EU, I have no idea how far in the future such an event will take place. We'll be doing a little bit of additional research to try to understand if we can get the compensation paid back to our original form of payment. So anyway! We are on the train now, headed south at least, which puts us closer to Barcelona in any case. We don't have anything scheduled for this evening, thankfully, so the delay is more inconvenient than substantive. Oh well. On to the next part of the adventure!

I would imagine all JR suite cabins are similar, this is cabin 9540 on Voyager taken a week or so ago Hope you enjoy the sights from balcony as much as we did.

But that’s not what anyone is expecting. We’re expecting transparency and truth in advertising. Don’t highlight restaurants and features that aren’t open. Let us know what we’re paying for. That’s all.

I understand. But every sector of business in the world has been a shyteshow since March 2020, expecting the cruise industry to be any different is willful ignorance. In some ways it feels like we’ve lost our innocence and I feel like things will never be the same. Pessimistic I know. When they ran out of kraken on my December cruise I knew things had changed for the worse.

Just went on the Quantum and tried Wonderland for the first time. The appetizers/small bites/starters were amazing. I particularly loved the tomato water, the egg, and the tuna in the lime, and my mom loved the liquid lobster. It is weird how you don't get all the options on the menu. Our waitress said she would pick everything for us, but she didn't ask what kind of stuff we liked, just if we had allergies. Is it just that the kitchen only makes some of the items and that's what they serve? Or do you get more when you are with a larger party (there were only two of us)? Maybe some options like the baby vegetables are left for people who have allergies or are vegetarians? In researching for it I don't think I've even ever seen a picture of the wonton soup, does it even really exist? The main dishes were also excellent. We got the branzino and halibut and split both and they were some of the best fish dishes I've ever had. I would cover the mushroom sauce from the halibut on every dish I ever ate if I could. As a note, since we ordered two fish entrees I would have thought that would be a signal to the waitress to bring out more fish starters (like the sashimi) but I guess that's not how it works. The desserts definitely looked better than they tasted. I mentioned before that I was traveling with someone who doesn't like peanuts but we both enjoyed The World, she just didn't dig too much into it. It was very rich. The other two... well they are pretty. Admittedly we're both not fans of raspberry either, which is the center filling of the apple dessert. We tried a bit but it wasn't for us. I wish it had an apple flavor! The mushroom one was fine, but there is only so much mousse you can eat. The meringue on ours was rock hard and I couldn't even cut into the bottom bits of the mushroom. We didn't leave super full, but since we had a 5:00 reservation we stopped later at Serrentos/Cafe Promenade around 9:00 for a late night snack. I think you are paying more for the presentation than the quantity of food, if that makes sense. Two minor complaints was the service and the lack of a bar. As mentioned above we could only grab a 5:00 reservation so we, along with a few other tables, must have been the first ones to sit down that night. Our waitress was great, but you can tell the rest of the staff was still getting ready setting up the restaurant, and it took a while for the food to come out, especially the main entrees. Our waitress also seems distracted and I think she might have had a couple of other tables since I saw her running around a bunch. It's a nice experience and I didn't want to be rushed through the whole experience, but we did spend a lot of time just waiting around. Also, the Quantum has a pretty small restaurant compared to other ships, and it didn't have a bar. It would have been nice to see also the unique cocktails but I imagine they just make them in the back. I heard some exciting things about their drinks, but when I asked for a drink menu all I got the generic Royal Caribbean drink menu. I did see someone at another table get the cotton candy one (and they brought out just a plate of cotton candy for a young kid at a table near us which was cute) so I'm not really sure what the deal was. I was interested in getting a drink but missed out. We got a credit from Costco (our travel agent) for a specialty dining experience and I think it was a credit well spent. I don't think it's something we would have paid out of pocket for ourselves so it was nice to try something new for "free." That being said, I think I would go back to Chops, our regular specialty dining go-to, or try something else next time. To us it was kind of a one in done. Glad we did it, but once was enough.

Please let us know what does happen to your 80 dollars, we're scheduled on the AOS to Bermuda soon and will be watching. Bill

Please don't try to cheat height limits. They don't put limits on these things just for fun or to mess with children, it's part of their safety protocol. It's been determined that anyone under these heights is at risk for injury. Trying to do something to get under height or weight limits on any ride or attraction puts the rider at serious risk. Look what happened to that boy in Orlando who was over the weight limit for that drop ride (although that didn't seem to be his fault, the ride operators didn't seem to post or train their employees on the limits). This sounds dramatic but I promise it's not worth risking.

Thanks so much! I know a lot of people in the forum is so versed in everything Royal so I can understand how silly and possibly redundant my question appears. So thanks so much for being so patient with us new to Royal cruisers!

We also would love for Royal Caribbean to home port in Charleston, as we live in Knoxville which is about a 6 hour drive away. But what about Savannah? Savannah has large cargo ships port there. So, I would think that ships larger than the Vision Class could even dock there. Savannah's airport is not as large as Charleston's which might be a problem, but passengers could be shuttled from Jacksonville and Charleston airports. Just dreaming of closer Royal Caribbean ports for us.

We’ve been twice: symphony in October and Wonder in March. We only went back in March because my SIL is an artist and we knew she’d love it. We won’t go back again. It’s a one and done for us. Fun but the food is just too weird. Our Mad Hatter on Symphony made the experience way better. Mad Hatter on Wonder was meh

I was thankful for this email since it caused me to reach out to my travel agent (shoutout Beth @ MEI) who found we still had some FCC that had been reissues (and I never got an email from RCCL) so yay this feels like free money right on the cusp of us hopefully booking a Bermuda sailing for July

Thanks for the pictures @Ray. The Junior Suite on Voyager looks great! For the price we paid, we will definitely be enjoying our cruise in a few weeks.

We each had our passports, vax cards and hard copies of negative test results & set sail passes in hand. We breezed through terminal check in, probably less than 15 minutes total including taking our pictures.

My wife gets on Harmony with her brother in two days, (Sunday). None of the normal local venues any longer offer a two-day covid test, so now the profiteering starts. We found a place that guarantees a two-day test, for only $130 each. We do what we must do.

I print out everything, including email too! I would rather have it and not need it than to need it and not have it. My DH teases me saying that I have lists for my lists - probably a fairly accurate statement....

Thank you for posting. Very few Baltic posts on this site. We leave on June 26 out of Stockholm, our ship is essentially an Uber, 5 ports in 6 days. (Visby, Kotka, Tallinn, Riga and Klapeidia, Lithuania) Not what we originally signed up for 4 years ago, but wife and I are of the opinion that we can have fun anywhere.....can always find a pub open. Still nervous about the whole thing being derailed by a q-tip, but we will control what we can. Glad you had a good time. Again, thanks for posting.

I can echo everything everyone has said and will add a few: Expect people to question and comment why you're alone- have a reply crafted so you won't be caught off guard. It will happen multiple times if you are around people. I just posted this recently but people like to tell female solo travels how brave they are and let you know they could never travel alone. It's annoying but they mean well. Restaurant staff will also comment. You said Mediterranean - I toured solo in Italy in 2019 (met so many people I still keep in touch with, best trip ever) and every time I dined alone, which actually wasn't often, the wait staff was shocked and would ask me several times to make sure. Sigh. Do the things you want to do and don't let being alone hold you back. For dining at buffets - being a bag or book or something that isn't expensive so you can claim a table or a seat to get your meal. The Cruise Compass will say "solo trivia" or something similar. It was never solo when I went, always couples or groups. Solo travel is what you make of it. Cruises for me tend to be quiet and truly solo while land travels I met tons of people. I can waver between making friends easily or being completely unapproachable. Expect to be alone but know you have the opportunity to meet others.

Tallinn Cruiseport is about a 15 min walk to the Old Town. Really nice small side streets, town square, cafes bars and the shops are pretty good also. Outside the walled city you will find lots to do and explore. Uber from Old town to cruiseport cost about €4

Ok firstly apologies for not keeping this up to date but i was on holiday and having fun! Back home now after an eventful and very tiring vacation. Copenhagen is a Fantastic place! For those arriving at airport i have mentioned easiest way to get from Airport to city, if you decide to take taxi cost is between 250-300 DKK. Ticket machines for train at Airport are easy however at City train station its a bit more confusing so i would recommend heading directly to the ticket office where they will help you out easily. Hop on Hop off bus costs $35 for 72hrs great way to see city if feet get sore for walking around the shops. Little mermaid stop is also the change over for cruiseport shuttle however this doesnt start until 2pm and runs hourly until 5pm, it is aimed more for cruiseships that visit port for the day. When heading home we arrived at Airport 3hrs before our flight and had to que for most of that time! There has been a lot of negative press especially in UK regarding ques at airports etc all i can say from experience at both Copenhagen and Heathrow is that a lot of the ques are brought about due to passengers not adhering to the rules! Yes airlines reduced staff due to covid but that doesnt mean you can now take 3 cases onboard as cabin luggage or liguids more than the 100ml allowed. Ques are caused by breaches in rules by passengers at security who then argue for 10 mins as they have to dispose of excess liguids or get bags checked in. You've just said you fly XYZ airline every month so it's not your 1st rodeo!! So why do you think these rules dont apply to you? Once we finally got into the duty free area after a long wait behind man with 3 cases as cabin luggage we only had time to enter 1 shop before we had to board. For Non Eu citizens ( this includes brits ) remember to get all your receipts from your shopping to claim back Vat, items purchased in Sweden and 1 other country which i cannot remember can be dealt with here also. So for cruises that stop in sweden remember to get tax free receipts and just show them at Copenhagen Airport.

Not really not much you can do about it anyway. All the times we have been to Bermuda have had pretty good luck. Have gotten soak and wet on a walking tour of St George one time but sun came out and we dried off fast.

I always do hard copies. When checking in I find it faster to just have the 4 things I need in hand. Do not like trying to find everything on my phone.

I do the same thing, backup hard copies can come in handy!

iPhones and Apple products are for beatniks and hippies.
