  1. I am both excited and terrified to begin my first live Blog here of my first ever Star Class sailing and also….our wedding! I can only hope it is HALF as good as the amazing bloggers I read religiously here! 48 DAYS! Here we go! The Story- My husband and I (I will explain!) booked this cruise for our wedding 2 YEARS ago during a Black Friday sale at an amazing price! We both LOVE cruising…so much so that we have a YouTube channel called BoosCruize so it seemed natural that we would choose to tie the knot in a small ceremony on the high seas! So after much research we decided on the Star Loft Suite 1720 on Oasis Of The Seas! This suite had a HUGE rectangular balcony that could fit guests and also give us the ocean view we wanted….and a Genie to help us pull it all off! What could go wrong?!? Enter…COVID As you can imagine we basically needed a new pair of britches every other day for the last two years as things changed. It’s a good thing I buzz cut my head or I’d probably be bald and NOT by choice LOL A year later we weren’t even sure if this cruise would happen but we also KNEW we wanted to be married. So when a company came to us and asked to throw us a huge West Coast “David Tutera” style wedding in Hollywood that will be published for magazines we obviously said YES! We now have two bi-coastal weddings Lol It was amazingly gorgeous but nothing was our choice. It was all chosen for us….right down to our tuxes. We feel BEYOND blessed but it also wasn’t what we had in our head two years ago. So now here we are….our guest list of 50 has gone down to 12 due to covid complications. Are we upset? HECK NO! We completely understand and are going to have the time of our LIVES on a gorgeous ship surrounded by people who love us! We can’t wait! Who: We are an LA couple. Jarell is an international Flight attendant (yaasss benefits!) and I am an actor who just moved from NYC in time for a pandemic to close Hollywood Where: We are sailing on the Oasis Of The Seas out of Miami in the Star Loft Suite 1720 with stops at Coco Cay, St.Thomas, and St. Maarten When: We sail November 7th-14th, 2021 I think that covers most of the back story and introductions! So happy to meet you all and take you along with us on this very special journey that is over 2 years in the making! Can’t wait to see who our Genie will be! For good measure I have included a photo of the happy grooms from our West Coast Wedding!

Enjoy your cruise. Not clothing related, but here's my advice for your cruise: Whenever there's a line for something, run to the nearest window, point in the distance and yell "whale!" Everyone will run over and you go to the head of the line.

  4. I'm always amazed how quickly longer cruises like this reach their conclusion. In the beginning it's like "I have lots of time to try this or that" then all of a sudden it becomes "there's only a day left and I haven't done everything I planned to".

  5. I've had an opportunity to cruise a few cruise lines during this 2021 cruise restart. All of them have been with reduced capacity. Having recently encountered two terrible boarding day procedures I've got give credit to Royal Caribbean for implementing the best boarding day process I've experienced. On those other lines it took hours for me to board the ship. Neither of them improved the muster drill routine to a notable extent. For both the other cruise lines their boarding day process cast a dark cloud on the start of my cruise vacation and in both cases it took a few hours after finally getting on board before it felt like I was on vacation. Even then I felt exhausted and didn't feel like doing very much on the first night. Contrast that with Royal where I was car to cabin in 20 minutes. Upon boarding I was free to grab a bite to eat and a beverage then I could visit my muster station at my convenience for a one-on-one safety briefing that took less than 60 seconds. Upon boarding Royal I immediately felt like I was on a cruise vacation. It was like I got an extra cruise day to enjoy. I was quickly into vacation mode and it was all stress free. I will say people arriving before their appointed time is a problem on all cruise lines. Don't be that person. If you arrive before your time you are part of the problem and you deserve the long wait times you will encounter. However once you are allowed inside the terminal there is no excuse for the other cruise lines to make boarding such a stressful and lengthy process. Hat's off to Royal for creating the best boarding day process.

  6. We just got off 4 weeks on Symphony, weeks 2~5 of Symphony's restart (More on that later). First, I wanted to talk about passenger count and the odds of a Royal Up bid. Our cruise passenger count would drop daily as better counts were out. Aug 21st the first count was around 1,500 and eventually whittled down to 1,127. Rumor was 125 were turned away for insufficient or improper documentation as adjustments were made. Aug 29th we heard about 1,700 and eventually Coco Cay was told to prepare for only 1,414. Sept 4th, the holiday week, they still had 2,100 reservations on the books. Ended up with a number around 1,725 +/-50 Sept 11th we had the largest number of B2B at 93. It was moved from Boleros to the Schooner Bar. Last number I heard, but seemed high compared to Sept 4th, was 1,750 +/- 100. Things are very fluid right now. It is hard to plan for an exact number, as some people are waiting till the last minute to cancel, likely in hopes of better protocols. But to cruise with those numbers is perhaps a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. Royal Up was crazy. People would Royal Up from Interior to Balcony, Balcony to Grand Suite, Grand Suite to Royal Loft (Aug 29th). People we interacted with won Royal Up to the Ultimate Family Suite (About 8 passengers with only paying the Bid for the first 2 passengers), Deck 8 Aqua 2-Bd with the largest balcony (1 occupant), Crown Lofts were going like penny candy in a candy store, Owner's Suite were available, and naturally those Royal Ups created a backfill for Grand Suite, Junior Suite, Balcony and Ocean View. Right now, if you are cruising on the Symphony, have an interior stateroom, and give a reasonable Royal Up bid there is a lot of backfill above you sitting empty. We received Royal Up all 3 weeks we bid up from Grand Suite (Aug 29th we did not bid, rather stayed with Star Class Aqua 2-Bd). Below is meant as nothing more than reading the past x numbers on the roulette wheel sign to increase your odds of winning. Therefore, I am not giving the exact $$ number, which likely would not work right now anyway, but my Aug 21st and Sept 4th bids were notably less than $500. (Remember, the bid $$ is per person for up to the first 2 passengers). Aug 21 Grand Suite to Crown Loft. Aug 29th - We did not bid up from Star Class Aqua 2-Bd, but I know the winning Grand Suite to Royal Loft Royal Up bid was notably less than $3,000 per/person. Sep 4th Grand Suite to Owner's Suite Deck 12 240 (Which has a mildly annoying post in the several yards into the middle of the entrance to the room). Sep 11th Grand Suite to Star Class Aqua 2-Bd Deck 10 734 for notably less than $1,700 per/person. Again, the passenger counts were very low, and those numbers may not be more than a guideline right now, especially since they are now more public. You may get it for a lesser bid, or you may bid a little more and still not get it. The objective is to encourage you to sign up for Royal Up if you have not done so, and to BID FOLKS! Closing thoughts: Professional Photographer, Ajuraj (pronounced Achoo, like a sneeze is acceptable) and Aakash are fantastic! Though his studio shots are excellent, Ajuraj is willing to break away from the normal studio style photos. I saw him shoot one couple at CBC getting low for a continuation of the pool into the ocean at the infinity pool. It is worth a sitting. Some examples below. Sunil is a great Royal Genie. At various times we had interaction with the entire Royal Genie staff. Even the newest Genie was great and willing to serve from my interaction with him and one passenger where that is who was his Royal Genie. Hairspray, Mark Preston, and Jeff Tracta were great entertainment. When comedian Landry said he would bring on the headliner for the Family Comedy Show, the lady behind us appropriately said, "Headliner, I thought he was the headliner," because he was that good. The entire staff is so eager to serve. We made many friends over 4 weeks. Priya in Guest Services, Flavia in Next Cruise, if we could have packed waitress May at Hooked Restaurant in our luggage we would have, Victor, Praveen and many of the photo staff for special night and port pictures produced great shots in our photo package, Made and Alina on the Rising Tide Bar, Sachin and Mark in Chops, Radu and Boodhoo in Jamie's, Justin and Decan have the Coastal Kitchen and seating running like a well oiled machine, same with the Johnny Rockets crew who occasionally come out and put on a performance on Boardwalk, Rebeka at Sugar Beach is sweeter than the sugar behind the door, even Maria in housekeeping whose task was to keep the fwd Promenade stairs by the big lollipop cleaned down to the entertainment on Deck 4 was super friendly and excited to see passengers she recognized. If possible, I would list so many great crew members, but let me list those who were not great--ready--NOBODY! On a sad note, the Mad Hatter of so many years retired (24 years) at the end of the Aug 21st cruise. There is a replacement, but it will take some time to get the character down, according to those that went starting Aug 29th. Safety precautions were great. In San Juan, Channel 13 interviewed myself and several passengers about safety concerns. Safety Concerns? I told them I was more concerned during my air transportation than on the ship, and my daughter is a flight attendant. Here are some examples: The day before the cruise, even though I answered several emails, I received a call from Royal to verify I was vax'ed and would be providing proof. Don't have the negative test paperwork, you don't get on. Ever see that at a hotel? At the airport? Vax'ed have a colored wristband, Unvax'ed do not, so anyone can instantly tell if the person next to you has been vax'ed or not. Ever see that at the grocery store? Shopping Mall? (Let's hope that never comes to land. No Scarlet Letters or wristbands, but because of the media, I can understand it on the ship). Even though Vax'ed and UnVax'ed are separated by Decks in the MDR, there is still table spacing distancing. Maybe some land restaurants have that, but do they include the proper docs to verify? At the Casino, when anyone gets up, they wipe the area down fast. The crew is tested once or twice a week, perhaps depending on the amount of interaction with passengers. We had Zero Positives during our cruises. 6 or your group in an elevator. Okay, a comment here about elevator limits, folks. Use common sense. If 6 unvax'ed strangers can get in the larger capacity elevators, is it really unsafe if a group of 6 and 2 vax'ed get in the elevator? Many times, as long as no one objected, 6 or more of us invited vax'ed (we would see their wristbands) in the elevator if they wished. In 4 weeks, I only had one group of six friends, panicky adamant about the sign saying only 6. I mean over the top panicky. If a 7th got on, especially not one of their 6 group, they would all surely die before the end of the cruise. That was okay. I understand how the media has overplayed the safety concerns aboard ships. In that scenario I wasn't concerned about CoVid-19 variants. I was concerned about forgetting all my years successfully writing procedures and protocols to meet general Federal Aviation Build Guidelines. Anyway, on and on the precautions are in play. In 4 weeks B2B you see so much that many shorter time passenger miss. In this case, I was impressed.

  7. Well it happened! A much hoped for Royal Up from a casino comped Junior Suite to the Royal Loft Suite sailing this Saturday from Ft. Lauderdale. 4 Sea days (well 5 if you count Nassau-which I do) is the perfect cruise for this to happen. I plan to live blog this trip and hope you will enjoy following along. I wanted to go ahead and get started and do some test posting and photos before we leave since I haven't done a live blog on this site before. I haven't seen any photos of this room on this ship so I will be happy to post photos and answer questions along the way. A little about us-we are Janet and Leslie (a guy Leslie) married 5 years but together 20 and we currently live in Deland, FL. We are from Metro Atlanta and moved to Florida last March right before Covid. We previously owned a commercial construction business and right now we are enjoying traveling and our new Florida home. We have 2 cat babies that my husband adores and will miss terribly while we are gone. This is our second Star Class cruise, our first was a similar casino upgrade before the Royal Up plan was in place. We are pretty low maintenance and not big snackers so some of the Star Class perks are a little lost on us. I am a pretty big foodie and love to cook and critique other people's food so prepare for a lot of food photos. Last night in anticipation of finding out about our room today I made a little sample dining schedule as well as giving myself a "Star Class" pedicure for good luck (thanks Color Street!) See pedicure below...

  8. Thanks, Jill !! We do love it. We are soooo glad we made the decision(s) we did. We were actually pleasantly surprised at the summer heat. Maybe we were just prepared for it to be much worse, but it was no worse than the summers in VA. I think the "hot season" is just longer than it is elsewhere...but I've been MUCH hotter in TX than I ever was in FL this summer. Closed on the house on 9-15 and we are busier than ever with all of the add-ons. Got the garage epoxy floor done, ceiling fans, pendant lights and plantation shutters all installed. My motorized bamboo curtain will be installed probably on Thursday. Signed contracts for the water treatment system and the emergency generator on Thursday and got the contracts all in place for the bird cage enclosure. The built-ins will start in late October. The move is Sunday, 9-26. Can't wait to be done with all of it !!

  9. @Matt, thank you. Because we were in a row on the restart cruises weeks 2, 3, 4, & 5 our ability to get to know the crew was awesome. Our Genie said more than 80% of the crew recognized us and most of the rest knew about us. We would be walking places and hear a new voice call out, "Mr Jack, Mrs Sue," or "Austin Powers" or "Jack and Rose." They knew my wife's name is Sue, but they fondly called her Rose. When we heard our names and turn around, there was always a new face smiling, and/or waving, dancing, or a combination. By the middle of week 3 I understood the term "Sea Legs." The crew laughed when I asked them if it was normal to discover you had muscles in new places, and they ache. Several told me they brought their ointments and such when they were called back. However, your ship, after ship, after ship with reviews, blog reports, and videos in a short time after the restart is more impressive. I was watching and reading them, and waiting for new ones multiple times a day before the cruise. A couple of times during the cruise I dropped in on for a short watch of your live reports while you were cruising. First thing I did when I got home was to go over your reviews. Thank you so much for this site, your work, and 'Everyone' on this Blog that helped me be well-prepared for the B4B cruise. Yes, @WAAAYTOOO, @twangster, @AshleyDillo, @cruisellama, @LovetoCruise87, and so many others it would make this a long post. All of you prepared the wife and I very well for the B4B.

  10. My family and I just got off the Allure. I knew I wouldn’t be able to keep up with a Live Blog but wanted to share our wonderful experience. Background My wife and I had been in Star Class on the Allure in May of 2018. We traveled with my dad in a Star Loft Room and had Susan Flannery as our Genie. She was fantastic. We looked for other Star Class trips that we could do with family and chose a 2 Bedroom Aqua Theater Suite in 2019 that got interrupted by the pandemic. After a new search, using a Casino Discount and Future Cruise Credits, we got a great price and booked the Royal Loft Suite on what was to be the amplified Allure of the Seas, in September of 2021. Due to Covid-19 the full Amplification never happened, but we still liked the ship and what it had to offer and obviously the room was a big factor. Joining us (Bob and Martha) on the trip in this fantastic room would be my dad, my youngest sister (Sandy), our niece (Dina), and our recently widowed family friend of 40 years (Mike). As the months went by, I would send our family group video clips of the room, pictures and features of the ship, menus, etc. to heighten the anticipation. We were getting nervous about the resumption of cruises, but when we saw the Allure do a test cruise, and then begin income generating cruises, the reality was setting in that we may go on the trip. Our original itinerary included Nassau, Falmouth, Jamaica, Labadee, and Coco Cay. After the unrest and earthquake in Haiti, we received notice from Royal Caribbean that the Labadee and Falmouth would be replaced by Cozumel and Costa Maya, and Nassau would be the moved to later in the cruise instead of the 1st stop. Embarkation Cruising Cozumel Costa Maya Cruising Nassau Coco Cay Disembarkation Our group liked this itinerary better. We booked a day at Mr. Sanchos in Cozumel, and Maya Chan in Costa Maya. We did not plan anything for Nassau but did have something special for our group at Coco Cay…more on that later. We filled out the Star Class pre-cruise questionnaire when it arrived and got more excited when we received our first correspondence from our Royal Genie, Romina Gheorghe. We had not heard a great deal about her, but we made a few requests to her in our initial correspondence. We shared a few emails in the week leading up to the cruise and she always responded quickly which made us feel comfortable. Since my wife and I and my dad had sailed Star Class before, we did our best to prepare the others on what they could anticipate. My wife and I live in the Orlando area, and we were sailing from Port Canaveral, so we were the hub for this trip. The cruise started on a Sunday, and my dad, sister and friend were flying in together from Chicago on Friday afternoon. My niece was driving down from her place in Myrtle Beach late on Friday as well. The plan was to get rapid antigen tests on Saturday morning and then chill at our place until leaving for the port on Sunday morning. As time drew nearer to the cruise, my wife and I and Mike got rapid tests done on Thursday which was still withing the accepted protocol at the time. The protocol changed to testing no later than 2 days prior to cruising the day after we left Port Canaveral. Martha, Mike and I were thrilled when we got our Negative test results. 3 down and three to go. I had made the test appointments for everyone but Mike at a local CVS near us. On Saturday morning, we took my sister, my dad and my niece to get their tests. About an hour later, there was much rejoicing as all tests were negative and we were psyched to be able to get on board the next morning.

  12. New Cruise Terminal 10 status update... Royal Caribbean continues to install the 800 auger cast piles for the new terminal building (see attached aerial photo). As the pile work completes in the next few weeks, Royal will move to the next phase of construction which involves the tilt-up wall installation. That is when we will begin to see visible progress on the site. The Port of Galveston is now targeting completion of their work (parking, roads, utilities, landscaping) by early October, 2022 to support the November, 2022 opening of the the new terminal.

  13. Well, well, well.... looks like Norwegian's newest ship will homeport in Galveston for the winter, arriving about a year after Royal Caribbean moves to their new cruise terminal! Update: NCL made this announcement while still in negotiations with the Port of Galveston and without informing the Port that they were going to make this announcement. Thanks to @BugsyCruiser for the tip on this news.

On the Oasis...not only did I get the email from the concierge about a week before, but every day while onboard. They send emails giving advice and suggestions for the next day whether we will be at sea or docked. Not via the app. I guess if you don't have wifi access, you don't get the email.

In Toronto, my colleagues and I were headed down to Clearwater Beach for a corporate retreat. I spent about 10 minutes in the Global Entry/NEXUS lanes (including pre-clearing customs) and it felt long. My colleagues took over an hour to get through and only had about 10-15 minutes before general boarding was called. I'd known that the KTN was worth the cost before. But after that incident I KNEW that it was the best money I could ever spend on something travel-related.

  20. I am not going to sugar coat anything. I am here on the Symphony of the Seas, for my 3rd week, with three (3) more to go! The ship is beautiful and for the most part, staff & guests wear masks. However, there are occassional anti-maskers who would rather fight than mask up! Staff always thank me, after I try to nicely ask guests when they are violating my space, especial when I am eating or trying to board an elevator. But there were a couple of close calls. One big guy at the Spa found it important to yell at me after I asked him to mask his 2 year old where I was eating in the Vitality Cafe. He screamed at me to stay inside my cabin and to have a kid! Which made me realize the poor guy was probably pretty stressed on his vacation & he thought I should be punished too. (?). Another time a young girl with a hot boyfriend walked past me while I was talking in the Art Gallery about a painting and I looked her way & laughed as we noticed her wearing her mask on her chin. The curator walked over to her & asked her to put her mask on and with that, she ran over to me, screaming that I could have asked her to wear her mask. I informed her that I wasn't her babysitter and to just "wear your mask" and suddenly her boyfriend was holding her back while she squirmed and looked as if she wanted to fight me. I just laughed. She was obviously drunk and couldn't read me properly, cuz I don't play. She tried coming back at me and her best shot was walking passed me, minutes later, blowing her nose in the air with no hanky. Classy!!! LoL (Coincidentally, it was Formal Night.). I wonder if she kisses her boyfriend with that nasty mouth?!) Should we talk about the casino now?! They have a new pilot program. Regular gamblers may not care or notice, but high rollers may be or will get pissed off. I have addressed this several times over 3 weeks and FINALLY believe I have the full scoop, although they say NOTHING is in writing, but that their rules & promotions can change at any time! Sure, change, but give me what you have NOW, in WRITING!!! (Nope, they won't!) Let me know, if you would like the scoop on what I learned from MY mistake!!!

    Changing a TA

Does anyone know if it is possible to change a TA on a reservation? I have two booked with my current TA, and they are far too difficult to reach. I just booked a cruise with MEI, and the entire time I just kept thinking, "Why isn't my current TA making this much effort for me?" I'm a little frustrated right now. @Matt thank you for getting me in touch with Daniel... he was great!

No, that's a perk the concierge would offer. I'm not aware JS is included since you wouldn't get the email from the concierge to let you know of it. Now that you got the noon check-in time, you're pretty much going to be the first onboard.

I just spoke with the Universal Enroll people about the whereabouts of my husband's KTN. They said that applications are taking 30 days and that they are "swamped." She said that at 46 days, that is too long. There were no flags on him and no correspondence emailed or snail-mailed to him. She escalated the application (who knew?) and said he should have his KTN in the next week; otherwise, we should call, and they will escalate it higher up. They were pleasant to deal with, and hopefully, that will be the end of that. If anyone needs to follow up with them on a similar situation, their number is 855-347-8371.

  34. It's kind of the same thing. If you are onboard for long enough the body will adapt to keep you from being unsteady on your feet. It's engaging muscles to assist with the extra balancing effort. Those muscles don't get used in the same way on land, so they can start to feel sore if you aren't used to it. It's the same thing that contributes to you still feeling like you are moving when you get back on land.

We did an Alaskan cruise in May a few years ago and it was COLD! My cold tolerance is good and 50 F in the spring feels balmy. When we went in May, the temperature got well below 50 F gauging by the snowflakes. We will try another Alaskan cruise next August 29, 2022. 72 F is well above my cold tolerance. My heat tolerance is about 85 F --- I would say 72 F is perfect.

  39. Since this whole nightmare started, Canadians have always been allowed to fly into the US. What is still uncertain is how this latest announcement impacts the land border. That is the piece I care about the most because I usually fly out of Detroit. Either way, I am cruising (unless covid gets in my way) come December. I have refundable flights booked on Delta and Air Canada.

We had our interview appointment on Friday (9/17). Our appointment time was 2:45 pm; however, we got there about 40 minutes early (we allowed extra time due to so much road construction on I-65). They went on an checked us in and we only waited about a minute or two and we got to be together in the same room. Our KTN was effective as soon as we left our appointment (i thought we had to wait for our GE card to come in the mail). He told me that the card is just another form of ID and it can be used instead of getting the enhanced drivers license for travel. When I got home, I get our KTN's linked to our 3 flights that we have booked and applied it to our Delta profile also. We have one more flight to book but have to wait a few more weeks before the dates will be available.

  45. I don’t know. I’ll have to test it and see! Our retirement plan includes big chunks of time onboard, just enjoying life. 8 years to go and I’ll get back to you

If your KTN is in your airline profile, it's automatically attached to your reservation.

    Alaskan cruises

We just returned from Alaska and temperatures were around 50-55 and rain every day. Granted we are Canadian but we were fine with long sleeved shirts/sweaters under a waterproof jacket (not a winter jacket even) on all of our excursions. Along with gloves, hat and waterproof hiking boots. Wore shorts and long-sleeved t-shirts or dresses around the ship. Didn't need waterproof pants but we camp so have a lot of quick dry activewear
