  1. Every one has different vacation budgets, that's what is great about cruises, they can accommodate most of them. Even at $400 difference I'd want to pick my own room, at $141 (actually $170 I'm a midship guy) it's a no brainier for me. That's because I can afford it and don't like to gamble with guarantee category. If you can still afford the cruise comfortably and not have to cut out a "must do" to get the room, do it. However, if it comes at a sacrifice, think about how much time you spend in the room and if it's worth it to you.

  2. My thoughts: If you truly don’t care where your room is, let them assign you. If there is any little voice in the back of your head saying, “Yea....but”, pick your room yourself. Disclaimer: We do guaranteed rooms as long as it’s cheaper.

  3. It's a roll of the dice with guarantee rooms. If you're OK with possibly being in the let's say the extreme far rooms (upper corner or bottom corner) especially in order to save $400, then go for it. Sometimes (but not all of the time, however it did work for me) if you can pay off the cruise sooner rather then later, they'll assign you a room shortly after. You just have to keep checking to see if and when it happens. If that happens you may be able to get that room changed to another balcony for no charge if you're not to thrilled with what they assigned you. 4. A $141 difference is not enough incentive for me to take a guaranteed room, I would call and switch

  7. Hello. Yes the FCC will carry to April 2022 (I am contemplating doing the same thing and spoke to RC staffer and that was confirmed).

  8. I'm starting this Live Blog with the most optimistic of intentions and utmost hope that we will be able to sail. I wonder if they actually place bets in Vegas as to when cruising will resume... The last Live Blog I wrote was from the middle of February 2020, a few short weeks before cruising was shut down due to the dreaded Covid. On that cruise we did our first Star Class on the Oasis. Since that time, quite a few life altering events have happened. I was laid off work for 2 months. My husband has been working from home since March. He works from our closet and is using an old boat swim platform as a desk. In May, we were inundated with rain (I believe 8 inches), and had 4 dams fail in our area. We were not directly impacted by this catastrophe, but people we know had houses, boats etc., swept away or their houses were under water. Every bridge below these dams was washed away. At that time, I was back to work so instead of having a 45 minute drive to work, I had an hour and a half. In the scheme of things, no big, as compared to all who had lakeside property. When our state opened back up for business, hubbie and I went out to dinner, had a few glasses of wine to celebrate being able to be social again. On the way home, we decided to stop to a small beach and watch the sun set. Apparently, I was out of practice with the whole drinking thing and my 56 year old self decided to strip down to skivvies and go swimming. We were sharing the area with another husband and wife and the husband was washing their dog in the lake. In my excitement to go swimming, I was not watching where I was walking and twisted my ankle and went down hard. There I was, writhing around in the sand in excruciating pain, when the dog raced out of the water and started humping my head. In my mind, everything was in slow motion, but hubbie quickly half carried me to the truck and home we went. Two things of note, actually three. 1) I severely strained my ankle and limped for a couple weeks 2) There was sand everywhere-in the truck-dribbled throughout the house-in the bed. 3 ) The following day I asked hubster if I was hallucinating that the dog that took a liking to my head had only three legs and he assured me that it did indeed only have three legs. Life experience #102,049, humped on the head by a 3 legged dog. How many people can claim that? I do not know how these things happen to me. It is a well known fact that I am not particularly graceful, however. Toward the end of October we caught the dreaded Covid. I can tell you I would not wish this upon my worst enemy. We both made it through without having to be put in the hospital and for that I am profoundly grateful. I am not one to wish my life away, but I will be glad when 2020 is in the rearview mirror. Back to dreaming of cruising! We are booked on the Explorer of the Seas for the end of January. We are thinking that if it is cancelled, we will just move it to another time, but still fly to Florida and hangout there on vacation. Hopefully, all this Covid business will have fallen by the wayside by then. My experience with checking in: I tried every few days since the 90 day mark to check in. I kept receiving an error that there was a glitch and to try later. Two days ago, (72 days to go) I was able to check in and can view my boarding passes. I am concerned that when I tried to book a cruise on the same ship, same date, nothing shows up on Royal's site. What is everyone else's experience with check ins, etc.? Pookie

  9. For me, on cruise days bloodies by the pool before lunch; depending on what and where we are having lunch beer or water; afternoon by the pool drink of the day and/or beer; wine at dinner; bourbon (Buffalo Trace or Basil Hayden) straight or with one ice cube after dinner. On port days I always take four bottles of water in my small backpack (not my idea, but this is something she who must be obeyed demands.....and you know how that goes, a happy wife a happy life. Especially on a cruise). ?

    8+ day cruises are locked

False alarm, for now: I'm back, Jim. It appears our system incorrectly cancelled your reservation. Your reservation is now reinstated and good. However, we're unable to go into Cruise Planner and reinstate what you had reserved there. You'll need to go back in and do it again. I'm truly sorry for the inconvenience.

  14. My wife and two friends are booked on Explorer for a 12-night Miami to Galveston repositioning. No cruise planner cancellation email and it's still in her future cruises list. Clearly not a universal experience (at least not yet).

  15. Our final payment is due 12/13 for our 3/20/21 cruise. Wish I had a crystal ball. On a happier note, my MEI TA was able to beg, plead, argue our Lift & Shifted western Caribbean cruise to the Eastern Caribbean itinerary I had originally wanted (and RCCL said no to).

Can’t wait to get this booked! Thanksgiving 21 might be a no-go so hopefully 2022 will be smooth sailing.

  17. Just saw a TV commercial for everyone who's missing the on-board art auctions. Grab your champagne glass and log into https://www.parkwestgallery.com/browse-artwork/. Park West has brought the auctions to the internet. ?

  18. And it continues....I am and have been saying June before they really start up at least...wouldn't count or book anything before that..need vaccines rolled out, wide spread and effective/proven before cruises are going to start up again

  20. It's one thing for the CDC to ban ships sailing longer itineraries due to public health concerns. It's another matter altogether for the CDC to become involved with how cruise lines market cruises. Someone needs to challenge this in court. It's a government overreach and potentially violates freedom of speech. "If you talk about cruises longer than 7 days we are going to shut you down". #DefundTheCDC. ?

    Interestng Bit Of News ...

So, for Royal, does this mean the Diamond and above will get to board early and the rest will be later? Interesting stuff as we get closer to cruising....when ever that may be. Just for good measure I will be wearing a face mask, rubber gloves and a condom. I'm not taking ANY chances!

Augh, we are on this cruise too. Not really surprised, just really disappointed....again. Just L&S my February cruise, but of course L & S for June wasn’t an option. I’m nervous about my Oct 29, 2021 cruise now since it’s 9 nights.
