  1. Last question on the survey . On the scale of lots of money versus metric crap ton of money, how much do you want to spend on the Deluxe Beverage Package?

  2. To be clear, nothing has been announced yet that boarding times have changed. For all we know, RC's app is acting up again. And to @twangster's point, even if later embarkation is a thing, RC has said many policies will evolve over time, and policies added for the first few months may go away later.

  3. I will mis the early check-in!...I always always at the port by 10ish and on the ship before 11....one of my fav times for the excitement and also to explore the ship and get some good photo's.....but I would take a cruise with a late check in at this point over no cruise so

  4. Taking a positive stance, I counted myself lucky to get a 1430 hrs boarding time on my next scheduled sailing. While it cuts into my first day on the ship I want to sail; so as long as I'm on the ship (NO MORE CANCELLATIONS PLEASE?) I'm happy. Saving money not to mention calories on my first Chop's lunch will be again grudgingly placed in the win category (will make up for both of these by evening 1 completion.) The new E muster situation is something that I am also so happy with, I hated standing there waiting for that last passenger who always had an excuse. (I wanted to be that person but could never bring myself to do it lol) We will now reclaim that precious time, and totally agree with my friend @WAAAYTOOO, I actually want the crew to have even just a little more time between sailings...if they are limiting capacity are the crew members numbers also being cut? Do they have even MORE work to do (additional cabins, extra cleaning etc?) We always arrived early to the port for the start of our cruise, but if a few hours makes a difference I am good with it. Usually no one likes change, but I want to keep an open mind maybe some of the change could prove to be enjoyable. We are ready to sail, let's go!

  5. I just logged into my Cruise Planner, and after a few minutes a survey popped up. I hope they pay attention! (It's a survey about the entire website, not necessarily just the Cruise Planner portion).

  11. I suspect that it’s a combination of many factors....more time for disembarking the previous passengers (realizing that we this won’t be a concern on the first cruise of restarting), more time needed for cleaning and social distancing.

  12. Since you haven't booked yet, I would suggest contacting MEI, the sponsor of this website, and work with a travel agent. The last thing you want to do is bugger something up and your friend from Sweden can't go, or they can go and the other three can't due to some passport/residency verification issue. Showing up at port and being denied boarding would suck. . . Royally! I would suggest @Sharla or @Jacki_MEI. Hope this helps.

  13. Didn't think the Bank of America RCL card but also didn't realize you spoke to your CC already. Interesting. Which two? (Out of curiosity). Sometimes you might have to go as far as clearing all cookies and such. Maybe try incognito in Chrome, I think that will ignore plugins assuming the "allow in incognito" isn't active. Also it pains me to say this (because I believe their purpose is to download the Chrome installer lol) but sometimes the OS provided browser (Edge for Windows or Safari for macOS) will work better to circumvent a browser bug in Firefox or Chrome. Anyway, glad to see it's all worked out for now!

  14. If every country but the United States is doing something, I think it's fair to call it "common" sense. The rest of the world gets it, we don't. The science keeps changing because we are learning more about the virus. It's not some nefarious scheme to keep you off a cruise ship.

  15. No offense because I get it, this is not the cruise lines fault, this totally stinks all the way around but if you, me or some people can't board till 5PM then your vacation is really being cut short. We usually arrive before the cruise terminal even "opens" and are usually on board by 12 noon. If I can't board till 5 we are losing 6 hours of the ship. I don't think that is fair because you are paying for that first day, its part of the cruise. Just my 2 cents, I get its not their fault but this isn't exactly right either.

  17. I did try two different web browsers and that didn't help either. I finally had to do what the other poster suggested and call their reservation number (they were open today). It was tedious to have to give all the information over the phone to a non-English speaker but I have a reservation now. Thanks!

  18. I am bored and tired of not having any live blogs to read, so I’m going to create a live blog about coming to Florida on a house-hunting recon. While no one is interested in my house-hunting per se, I will devote this blog to discussions on travel and public discourse.... I mean, being out and about ...during the plague. We left Virginia on Thursday morning. Uber to the airport - Uneventful. This was the first time we had gone north (in, towards DC) since the lockdown, so we had no idea what rush hour traffic would be like. We gave ourselves plenty of time, but it was unnecessary. Traffic was a breeze (for NoVa). Part of that could have been b/c it is a holiday weekend, but primarily I just think people are still working mostly from home. Airport - This is the first time I have EVER seen zero-zilch-nobody in line at TSA. There was not a soul waiting to go through security. It’s the first time I have not needed Cleared to breeze though. The bad news...since I now have a fake knee, I can no longer go through the Pre Check scanner. I have to go through the regular line, therefore negating my TSAPre Check advantage. Not happy about this. Had to take off my shoes and everything. Major bummer. The good news is, the AA Admirals Club in Terminal C was open. The bad news is, it’s pretty meager. No more buffet breakfast (we got a breakfast “box” with some stale crackers and nasty cheese). No avocado toast ! What is this world coming to ?! It was still better than waiting at the gate but not like the good ol’ days. Flight - so much for social distancing ! Completely sold out flight. Uneventful...had to wear a mask the entire time but nothing untoward happened. One of the smoothest flights I’ve ever taken. DCA-PBI. First time flying into West Palm. Very nice airport. Must be b/c Trump moved to FL. Just kiddin’ Hotel - Residence Inn in Port St. Lucie. Very nice. Must wear a mask in the lobby and when in the elevator. No food service at all. They also subscribe to the box meal philosophy. No idea what’s in their box. We declined. No housekeeping service unless you give them 24 hours notice and you must vacate the room at least 3 hours prior to service (not sure how you’re supposed to know when they’re coming...). I can get replacement towels at any time. This works for us, just fine. I don’t care for housekeeping bustin’ in on us anyway. I can make my own bed ! Restaurants and other public spaces - Honestly, if it weren’t for the masks, you would not even know there was a plague. It’s pretty much business as usual, as far as I can tell. The restaurants seem to be blocking off every-other table, but basically, that’s it. People are extremely compliant with the whole mask thing. I’ve been very pleasantly surprised that I have seen NO one out in public without a mask. As far as I can tell, everything is open....except for the cruise terminals. More on the first day of house hunting later. It was a long day. It’s hot in Florida. Why am I moving here again ?

  19. As @Matt mentioned on the home page, RC is implementing later check-in times. Some of them much later than most of us, from what others have said, would ever check-in. I'm onboard with what @Matt lives by that earlier the better, as far as getting on board and starting your cruise. With that being said, will boarding before noon be a thing of the past, with all the expanded cleaning protocol? I know past boarding times have been more of a suggestion and the times have not been adhered to. Is that also a thing of the past? Will passengers be forced to choose a boarding time and stick to it? Will departure times also be getting later? Lots of questions with unfortunately, no answers in sight at this point. Happy (future) Cruising!

    Social Media chatter

Though this blog is the one place I go to get real info, I do follow and see chatter elsewhere. Yesterday I saw a few posts fro people who supposedly have friends in the game that were asked to be ready to come back late this month and early next month. Normally I dismiss stuff I have no way to verify but two of the reports came from people who got crew departures correct some time back. I made mention a few weeks ago when I booked another spring run I was making small talk about upcoming cruises likely to cancel. The agent was probably the very best I ever had the pleasure of dealing with. She was adamant that my Harmony in November would be sailing... Who knows... The extensions will eventually end . First trips will eventually happen. I see no reason that we can't be at that crossroad now????

  24. I agree. I see it as short term as (hopefully) mandatory masks (we all know there will be masks in the beginning). Assuming some sort of vaccine and treatments are available during second half of 2021 things will start to get relaxed. (At least that's my hopelessly optimistic opinion). In regards to itinerary, I think my September 2021 cruise is perfect. 7 night CocoCay on Oasis. Orlando I can go to anytime, quick flight. I don't care about Nassau and was just going to do the flight simulator. It's just about seeing the amplification of Oasis, finally getting to CocoCay, and sailing from a local port so maybe a few friends can come.

  25. I guess like many things lately, we will just have to wait and see as things are changing daily. It's all speculation on our parts, until they start sailing again. And then the real discussions and debates will start.

  27. Since I'm cheap when it comes to onboard expenditures, I shy away from cruise line shore excursions. Any itinerary that has more than, say, 3 ports or greater on a sailing is gonna be viewed unfavorably by me if I can't get off the boat for an hour without buying an excursion. St Peterburg is probably a good (or bad)? example because most nationalities can't get off the ship without a Russian VISA unless they are on an excursion booked via the cruise line. Cuba was the same before the feds put the kibosh on those sailings.

  28. I've been trying to rebook a cruise that was cancelled due to the pandemic, but after going through the whole registration process online my credit card was refused! I have absolutely no problem with my credit card, and my browser fills in the number automatically (but I checked it anyway to make sure it was correct). I tried three different credit cards and all three were refused. I can't call them because their offices are closed for the Labor Day holiday. Is anyone else having a problem with their credit cards on the Royal Caribbean website?

  32. Welcome to the family@Fox! The one suggestion I would have about excursions is, don't try and do too much. I know the all day multi-stop excursions sound like a great option to see and do as much as possible, but you wind up spending more time on a bus, getting from one place to another. I know from experience. You're better off finding the one thing you really want to do. Congrats on your first cruise! Happy cruising!

  34. The only downside of MIA vs. FLL is that FLL is an easy airport. Some my longest airport walks have occurred at MIA. The hike to the car rental center is basically an expedition that should come with bottles of water, a box meal and a guide.

  36. Hi Heather! You are able to eat in multiple locations in one night (based on availability) and Johnny Rockets is included. You aren't able to make your dining reservations in advance, so I highly recommend making them as soon as you are onboard the ship. Here are two blog posts about it with more info: https://www.royalcaribbeanblog.com/2019/04/10/royal-caribbean-introduces-new-unlimited-dining-package https://www.royalcaribbeanblog.com/royal-caribbean-dining-packages

  41. I think some of the best (also worst) experiences have come from randomly going "hey let's try this place." We've found places such as Pho Xyclo in Niagara Falls, a street festival in Sand City, CA, and Pie in Barrie, ON. But we've also found some pretty meh places like some pub in Stratford-upon-Avon and a paella place in Barcelona. No regrets though - nothing ventured, nothing gained.

  42. It was not a Royal Caribbean credit card. I was trying to call the Royal Caribbean help number and there was a recording that they were closed. My bank has no record of a transaction attempt so it's almost certainly a problem at Royal Caribbean. I was wondering if anyone else had seen it.

  43. Well, we did it ! Put down a down payment to get started. Picked out a house and lot. Should be ready in just a bit more than a year. Meanwhile, we must return to VA and sell our house. We will move into something temp locally and move to FL when our new house is ready. We will be in a brand new phase of the development so right now, there is nothing but dirt and sand there. So, flying back early tomorrow. Upgraded to FC so happy about that. What a whirlwind ! It might sound like an impulse buy to some, but truthfully, this is our fourth trip to FL house-hunting. We tried the west coast. Nope...the drive from Tampa to the Port of Miami was horrific. Tried central Florida but only Port Canaveral was really convenient. I knew that we would not be able to afford the Miami area, so after just 1 perusal in south Florida, we moved on. Not only was it expensive, but they didn’t really have the type of “Active 55+ community” that we were looking for. We finally tried the south-central east coast (Port St Lucie) and it was Juuuust right. Almost exactly half way between Port Canaveral and Miami. Dan kept saying that when we found the right place, we’d “know it”. I guess he was right. I have bought and sold many homes in my life but this will be the first brand new/build home for me. Very excited !
