  1. Might be the final farewell from me... until Saturday for Symphony... Overall impression, seemed different than the 7 day sailings from Port Everglades. As always it is a blast when sailing with a group with a common denominator, #teamdx really shines. Be it Royal Caribbean Blog group members or #rcperiscopers. Fitting in all an Oasis class ship has to offer in 3 days is possible. However it is highly not suggested. On the same note it would be great if the Oasis class ships would occasionally offer a 3/4 day offering. I'm sure they could sell these condensed sailings at a premium. Add on I'm sure many might take the opportunity to append or prepend a 7 day sailing to the shorter segment. Overall these three days were a blur, I'm sure Mr. Patron has something to say about that... Thanks again for following along! Any questions just ask and I'm sure I can come up with something that sounds true.

  3. Looks like Ovation just arrived into Victoria. Webcam: http://www.bigwavedave.ca/webcams.php?cam=10 While we don't have Victoria on this itinerary this will be a critical port of call for Ovation this summer since it keeps the Seattle based round trip cruises legal with respect to the PVSA.

  7. Wellllllll turns out we were a bit more “laze” than anticipated and we all sort of passed out sometime around 2:30 or 3 and suddenly it was 6:30 and no one was really in the mood for dinner dinner. Lunch was so filling that we were still working that off and since the only thing that happened between was a trip to Walgreens and sleeping....dinner seemed absurd. My dad went off to grab his wine at Total Wine and ended up grabbing some of those grab & go meals from Publix next door. Suddenly the tiny microwave in our room didn’t seem so useless. The chicken parm was fairly decent....at least for something that you nuke in the microwave. While I’m slightly bummed that we didn’t get to check out La Bamba, I can’t complain too much since we are about to face an onslaught of food in about T-minus 12 hours. Also, we all honestly needed that recovery time from traveling on such a lack of sleep. It was rough.

    On a RC ship....

There’s a great hour long documentary on changeover day from Harmony of the Seas. It’s called Sea Giants and covers from getting the Harbor Pilot on to leaving the dock with the new passengers.

    When did this start?

@tonyfsu21 They want to collect interest off your money for 1.5 years....don't you want to help them out. ??

  10. Nowadays they probably would have been called Voyager Plus. Take a Voyager class ship and stretch it. If you ever sail one that is exactly how they feel.

  11. A "Perfect Day" for me us is when the ship is in port and the majority of folks get off the ship and we have the ship all to ourselves!

  16. 5- Room Since we were such fans of the Junior suite from Harmony we decided we’d head in that direction this time as well. This time we’ll have one more person on Harmony though so the room might be tight. Luckily, it’s a short cruise, so hopefully won’t be too bad. We vacillated back and forth between Deck 10 and Deck 7, each had their disadvantages (Deck 10 is below the windjammer and Deck 7 is a partially obstructed view) but we settled on Deck 10. As there’s two early port days, the windjammer noise shouldn’t impact sleep very much. In the end we chose room 1394 for this trip, this will be first aft balcony, which hopefully will provide great views as we back into CocoCay on day 2. It’ll also be a tough choice between sail-away on the balcony or on the Helipad. As the Capitals have retired number 5, we have to take it old school, the “Secretary of Defense” Rod Langway

  18. Yes - had him on Oasis 5 years ago. Didn't pay much attention as it was my first time on the Oasis Class but came across fun, friendly and energetic. I think his style appeals more to a younger audience and works better on the big ships, which is why some older people (mainly on CC) have given negative reviews but the younger guests love him.

  19. It'a all a matter of physics. Hot air rises, but if the ambient air temperature is above a certain temperature, the hot air in the balloon will not rise. If the ambient air temp is lower, it's up, up and away. Pretty sure the balloon is helium filled. Years ago I was stationed at Ft. Bragg in NC (Fayetteville). A coupe of young entrepreneurs tried hot air balloon rides in the summer. Unfortunately, it was too hot and their project never got off the ground, literally.

  20. In 2005, the Enchantment of the Seas was overhauled. Part of overhaul included stretching the vessel by cutting it in two amidships and adding a 73-foot (22 m) long section. Enchantment of the Seas entered dry dock at Keppel Verolme shipyards in Rotterdam on 15 May 2005. The mid-body extension section was built at Aker Finnyards ahead of time, allowing the construction to be done in just over a month. The ship resumed service on July 7, 2005, less than two months after entering dry dock. The new section included 151 new staterooms, outdoor trampoline bungees, suspension bridges, an expanded pool area, a 64-jet interactive fountain area for kids, and floor windows allowing an unobstructed view of the ocean below. During its time out of service, Enchantment of the Seas also received an overall renovation, which included paintings by Paul Critchley for the Windjammer cafe. When the extension project was approved, an extension of Enchantment of the Seas 's sister ship, Grandeur of the Seas was also planned, with tentative plans to extend other ships in the Vision class (and possibly throughout the fleet). However, while the Enchantment of the Seas project was successful it proved to be prohibitively expensive, and all future extension projects have been cancelled. Instead, the Voyager class was extended on paper, and the Freedom class was created, using the shipyard capacity previously booked for the Vision class extensions.

From the RC website. Surf + Stream package. One device per person for each guest booked in a Sky suite. Access codes will be provided upon arrival. My wife has used multiple devices, but only one logged in at a time.

  23. My wife is now determined (aka obsessed ?) to find a way to do this itinerary on Symphony! Looks like there are 16 dates for 2020 through APR 2021 (7-night) alone... I guess it's not as rare an itinerary as I thought at first! https://secure.royalcaribbean.com/cruises/?currentPage=1&dates_maxDate=04%2F30%2F2021&dates_minDate=01%2F01%2F2020&departureCode_MIA=true&durationCode_6to8=true&icid=hpnvbr_pagehe_fnd_hm_awaren_938&itineraryPanel=SY07MIA-2712720663&shipCode_AL=true&shipCode_OA=true&shipCode_SY=true

  28. Are you saying you don't want to do your laundry in Anchorage. but later on for your cruise? I lived in AK for several yrs. and we did a lot of camping. If you don't want to do it in Anchorage prior to sailing, I would do it in Juneau. OBTW, I don't know when you are sailing, but you need to make reservations for Simon and Seaforts as soon as possible. You will NOT be disappointed. Sooner you make the reservations, the easier it will be to get a table overlooking the inlet. It is pricey, but waayyyy worth it. Try their prime rib, and their crab and artichoke dip. https://simonandseaforts.com/menu.php The minute you taste a bite of the prime rib you will be in heaven. It has been yrs since I lived in Anchorage, but the Hilton had an amazing bar and restaurant at the top of the hotel that looked at FT Rich's mtn. They have a star on the mtn. The Hilton is on the opposite end of Simon and Seaforts. Captain Cooke Hotel is between the two. It would be about a 10--15 min leisurely walk from the Hilton to the restaurant. There is a mall on 5th Ave. It includes stores from JCPenneys to Nordstrom. It is a quick walk from either of these hotels. Look for the whale graffiti on one of the buildings. There is also an amazing church on that street. If you are there for 4 days, I would do the following: 1. Go to Mirror Lake. It is right outside of Eagle River @ 30 min car ride. It has wonderful hiking trails, waterfalls, etc. Plus the lake reflection looks like a mirror when it comes to the trees shadowing. 2. White water rafting in Eagle River. Again it is @ 30 min car ride. It is an easy rafting trip, but 10 will get you 20 it will be cheaper than any RCCL rafting trip. 3. Portage Glacier. I am not trying to make a political statement, but if anybody wants to see climate change, Portage is the place to go. It is about 30 mins out of Anchorage. 4. I do not know if they still have this, but right outside the back gate of Elmendorf AFB (close to Hilton Hotel) they had a salmon farm. I hope this gives you some insight to Anchorage that is close to the port

  29. I recall reading about 9 mos ago that RCCL was considering doing a Coco Cay Island for their Australian cruises. The only reason that it stuck in my mind is we had just come back from Australia (land vacation) a few weeks earlier and I saw Ovation (?) in port at the Quay while we were there that week.

  30. Ship's time will be displayed on the 'ship's position' page on your TV, on the phone in your cabin and on the digital screens in the stairwells. I always take an analogue watch when going ashore just to be on the safe side.

  31. LOL! Hubby wants to do this for our Symphony cruise this July. We are flying to FLL but booked at the Intercontinental Miami. Hubby said that we should swing by for a bite to eat at La Bamba before heading to Miami. I asked him what we would do with our luggage?? I say that you try it and let us know how it goes! ?

  32. Coco Cay is going to be a a huge cash cow for RC, so don't be surprised if it's soon incorporated into every itinerary. Heading to Anchorage tomorrow, then Coco Cay, and then to Glacier Bay - what a great vacation!

  39. You break out the emergency bee bee gun and start shooting holes in the balloon. Just kidding... The company that makes them have them in operation around the world including Disney parks. Presumably they have safety mechanisms and vents to control ascent in the unlikely event of a "rope" break. I like their version of a floating bar:

  40. They didn't reduce capacity in the UK during the recession 10 years ago, even though Indy was their flagship at the time that the recession began. Might be some food for thought. And if Brexit was going to be as devastating as you predicted, why did RCI even consider having Indy back in 2020?

  42. Venting and LMAO. On another forum there are posters complaining about the Perfect Day, they believe it is all about making passengers pay for more things aka upgrades. You can drill it in their brain all day long, that there are more free items/selections now than there was before to no avail. I get the idea that some feel the island is no longer the "deserted island" feel. I would still disagree, but I get their point. However, when they say now they have to pay when before it was free, I want to hit my head against the wall.

  44. I want to say that in 2021 you’ll have Anthem back in NJ, although there’s some speculation whether Odyssey (latest Q ship) will take her place. Assuming that’s correct, you’ll most likely have the same 8/9-night options for Bahamas and Perfect Day going southbound over the summer, alternating with 5-night Bermuda runs.

    Coco Cay Three Ships!

My first thought wasn't actually the crowds, it was: that's gonna confuse some passengers. It's weird to me but I know there are people that have no idea of what ship they are on. They just think the name is "Royal Caribbean". To have two or three docked at the same time? Here's hoping there's not two Oasis class ships at the same time.....

  48. Usually they say 12pm or later. I don't know if they will make an exception for 10mins. The cost is $25 per person and then the additional charge for any checked luggage. If you are in a GS or above, the $25pp fee is waived.
