Just off Indy, no Sky Pad all week

Recommended Posts

Just off Indy today, and the Sky Pad was closed the whole voyage. We had a reservation for the first sea day, and we did not learn of its closing until we were on board. Needless to say, the kids were bummed.

Anyone know how long the Sky Pad has been closed?

very upset about this.  Its closed down on Mariner too.  Still in my calendar, booked it months ago.   2 weeks till cruise.  No communication about it being down from RCCI.  Still lit up in the night sky advertising itself.   Was the biggest thing that my kids were looking forward to (besides cruise itself)

During any pending litigation, since the Skypad is the place of occurrence, any equipment, etc. associated with the accident is most likely marked as evidence and cannot be used and must be preserved as discoverable. Probably, the only way around this is If RCCL totally replaces the Skypad with a new one which preserves evidence of the original and this way, everyone can resume enjoyng the Skypad. At this time, it's anyone's guess what RCCL is going to do.

I'd also add when there's an accident on a ride/experience like this, it's common to shut it down for inspections and re-evaluations.  When there's accidents on theme park rides, including Disney World, this commonly occurs.

I just saw on RC's twitter that it is indeed closed.  It's news to me because the incident occurred I believe right before our during our sailing on Mariner and it was still operational.

Matt the incident actually happened on the 2 night Feb 8th sailing.. I was on that sailing and it was crazy. at 7:30 PM on the last night the captain came on and said due to a medical emergency we have to go to Miami right away, drop off a passenger but then we will go back out to sea so the casino can open again. I thought this is so weird. Then a crew member told me what happened. The man on the sky pad shattered his pelvis. Then a few weeks later I read the article about the lawsuit he was filing. I have a feeling until they reach a settlement and get the sky pad really checked well for safety its not going to reopen.

Counter argument - in shutting down the ride they admit there is a safety concern that could be used (or attempted to be used) against them in the pursuit of a settlement.

Bottom line - they aren't in the business of shutting down features for no reason and disappointing guests.  If it's been shutdown it is for a reason.

When the tidal wave slide on Liberty first was installed they opened it then shut it down for months.  With an issue or concern they aren't going to operate anything that has any risk present, valid risk based on evidence or out of an abundance of caution, they will err on the side of safety and caution.

Royal Caribbean is terrible about communicating with their guests. Once they have your money your on your own. Parasailing was cancelled twice the two times we went to Coco Cay still don't know why.

Although disappointing, it's a good thing that they are taking all measures to ensure it doesn't happen again.  We have Mariner booked for next summer again and will be a bit worried with my kids going on it (and had no concern when they went last summer).

Cable breakage was the reason. Their have been incidents not just at Royal but elsewhere with cable breakage.  Many times tho they are cancelled due to weather conditions.  Trying to get answers is like pulling teeth.
