Wayne & Ashley's Trip Report

30Mar2011
Ship:
Majesty of the Seas
Duration:
3-night Bahamas
Cabin:
Ocean View

Our cruise was a 3-night weekend to the Bahamas out of Miami.  We visited Coco Cay and Nassau in the Bahamas.  The cruise terminal in Miami was nice, fast, and efficient to get us on board quickly.  Once on board you quickly realize that the Majesty isn't that small.  Considering it it half the length of the Oasis and the smallest class, we found that 3 days on board was not enough time to explore everything and get the full experience from the ship.  Surprisingly everything was up to date and clean considering this ship was built in 1992.  The staff was friendly and helpful and we enjoyed every bit of the vacation.  All the amenities and experiences you get on the larger ships, this one has the same.

What was your motivation to take a cruise?:
We had sailed with Royal on 2 prior cruises; Enchantment (4-night Western Caribbean) and Serenade of the Seas (7-night Southern Caribbean). We were celebrating an anniversary. It was also a much needed weekend break, and Majesty and Monarch are the only cruises to sail over a weekend, meaning less days needed off from work.
What was a highlight of your cruise?:
The best part was the ship sailed over a weekend to the Bahamas. We had a great stateroom attendant, dining staff, and cruise experience. Royal's private island, Coco Cay was fun and had plenty of activities.
What did you dislike about your cruise?:
Smaller cabin, and crowded pool deck. Mostly since there are as many guests on this ship as in the Radiance class of ships.
Did you do any excursions?:
In Coco Cay we rented the floating beach mats which were fun and very relaxing out on the water. The beach mat was $12 which wasn't bad considering you could keep it the entire day and also use it to lay on the beach. We rented a locker on the island which was $4. However, what they don't tell you is $4 for one time use! Each time you open the locker you have to buy another $4 token to lock it back up. It is fine if you place your items in it and only return once to take them out. We needed to return 3 times for cameras, cash, and sunglasses since we were doing the water activities. Our Nassau excursion was a beach break to Atlantis which included access to the aquarium areas and a private beach. 5 hours in Atlantis was not enough time to explore everything while having time on the beach. The excursion cost about $75 and I did not feel was worth it since you had to pay extra for the water park and no food or drinks were included with the tour. The Atlantis resort is incredible...great beaches, tropical landscapes, marine life everywhere, a casino, waterpark, and endless pools. I think Atlantis could be it's own island. Royal may need to consider calling it Port of Atlantis since the majority of cruise passengers go there.
How was your cabin?:
The ocean view (with full window, not port hole) room was smaller than other ships we have been on. It has a standard sized bathroom as other ships, however the shower was rectangular with a shower curtain that clings to you. The solution; just shower with the curtain open and clean up the water later, haha. There is a closet with safe, vanity area with drawers, and a decent bed (queen size). There was no couch or sitting area like some other ships. I liked the flat screen TV they mounted on the wall in front of the bed, easy to view. The room was clean and fairly updated. I have no complaints about the room, it is a smaller ship so the room is smaller too.
How was the food on the ship?:
The food was great, same type of food and selection in the dining room as other ships. The waiting staff was friendly and on point. The buffet was good however we noticed there is less of a selection than other sailings we have done on larger ships. The buffet options are fewer I guess due to the smaller ship and length of sailing. Overall it's the good Royal food you know, just maybe a few less buffet options.
Would you cruise again on this ship?:
Yes
