Kenneth's Trip Report

13Jan2012
Ship:
Mariner of the Seas
Duration:
6 Days
Cabin:
9606

I was looking forward to being back onboard The Mariner of the seas for the fifth time but I was not impressed  with the service on the ship I have come accustomed to expect , I found that some of the crew did not even know there jobs or service they should provide. I had preordered champagne and chocolates strawberries but they delivered a fruit plate instead. The service in the main dinning room was slow do to what I thought was the waiter and his assistant had to many tables to serve. The food and drinks where good the band on the beginning of the cruise was not good but later replaced by a better band. Ice show was the same, did not care for the CD at all. The shows where good.

I really like Royal Caribbean brand and will sail with them again but I will not sail on the ship for awhile if at all, Because I woke up on January 8th 2012 at about 5:30 am to find us anchored just outside Galveston harbor, Captain Per informed everybody that the harbor had been closed due to fog at that time they have opened up the phone lines and internet for free. at about 10:45 am we started to make are way into port and finally docked at 1:30 pm and about 30 minutes later they started disembarking cruiser's who where taking their own luggage of but a mob formed on deck 4 as everyone started to disembark. I only heard one announcement from the cd saying only people with their own luggage may disembark,  finally at about 3:30 a crew member told me when I was waiting in the Lotus lounge to just go ahead and leave that the disembarkation was not going as  plan and it was ok just to leave so I left and finally got off the ship by 4:00 pm and out of the self parking lot by 5:15 pm and barely made it to Houston Hobby to Catch my rebooked flight home, which was a additional 30 miles out of my way. The cruise was good but the disembarkation was a disaster, it was not they way to end a cruise!

What was your motivation to take a cruise?:
Annual family cruise.
What was a highlight of your cruise?:
Cruising with the family. Snorkeling in Belize.
What did you dislike about your cruise?:
This was my fifth time on the Mariner of the seas and was disappointed with the service on cruise. Except for in the specialty restaurants the service and food was excellent.
Did you do any excursions?:
In Belize we did Snorkling, it was a lot of fun I recomened it. In Cozumel we went to the Ruins and the beach break. The Ruins were very nice the beach break I was not impressed with at all.
How was your cabin?:
I like the JR suite's but was no impressed with the cabin attendant. Balcony was dirty and the attendant never put up the bed durning the day so we could sit on the coach.
How was the food on the ship?:
Chops Grille is the best. Portofino's was good. Windjammer was ok. Loved the salad in the Main dinning room at lunch, wish they could do this in the Windjammer also. I thought the food was good.
Would you cruise again on this ship?:
No
