Mexican authorities report a 24-year-old woman has died in Cozumel while on vacation on a Royal Caribbean cruise ship.  Quintana Roo state prosecutor Francisco Alor Quezada said that the woman died Monday in a Cancun hospital from internal bleeding after ingesting a safety pin that punctured her organs.

Quezada also said the woman had two different names but no additional information was available on where she was from.  An autopsy revealed the woman suffered from diabetes, had a brain tumor and was taking anti-anxiety medication

Royal Caribbean spokeswoman Michele Nadeem said in a statement that the tourist debarked Friday and didn't return to the ship before departure.  Nadeem also said, "out of respect for patient confidentiality, we cannot discuss her medical situation with the media, nor can we release personal information until her next of kin is contacted."

This death is the second in as many days after a Royal Caribbean musician was found dead from being beaten and drowning, but authorities do not believe the two fatalities are related.

A Royal Caribbean crew member, Monika Markiewicz,  was found dead in Cozumel this past weekend in Couzmel, Mexico.  Authorities report the 32 year old suffered a blow to the head and died of drowning and they believe foul play is to blame.

Markiewicz was a musician on Allure of the Seas and her body was found on the southern part of the Cozumel Island on Saturday.

Royal Caribbean spokeswoman Cynthia Martinez says Royal Caribbean believes Markiewicz "was the victim of a violent crime and did not drown accidentally. Tragically, we recently became aware that the crew member was a victim of a violent crime while ashore in a remote area in Cozume. We extend our most sincere and heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of our crew member."

Passenger claims storm on Royal Caribbean ship led to wife's death

Remember the news of Royal Caribbean's Brilliance of the Seas being hit by that big storm in the Mediterranean?  Well a woman who cruised on that ship during that storm has died and her husband believes it was because of her experience on the ship.

Barbara Davey slipped into a coma just three days after dealing with the giant waves impacting Brilliance of the Seas while in her stateroom.  When the ship docked in Malta, she was transferred to a hospital but she never recovered and was airlifted back to the United Kingdom.

Barbara's husband, John Davey, wants answers and restitution.  He is planning to sue Royal Caribbean over the incident because he feels the ship should have never left port after weather reports prior to the cruise hinted at the possibility of bad weather.

Passenger sues Royal Caribbean over gas leak

A lawsuit has been filed against Royal Caribbean because of an incident aboard Monarch of the Seas in September 2005 when a toxic gas leak onboard killed three and injured several crew members.  The lawsuit alleges that Royal Caribbean knew about the gas leak and believes that Royal Caribbean endangered the lives of thousands of passengers and numerous employees by continuing to operate the unsafe vessel for several months before completing the repairs.

Florida trial attorney John H. “Jack” Hickey filed the lawsuit in Miami-Dade Circuit Court this week.

“Royal Caribbean engaged in gross misconduct so reckless that it constituted a conscious disregard or indifference to the life, safety, or rights of every single person on that ship,” said Hickey who is representing former Staff Captain Bjoern Eidissen of Norway in legal action against RCCL. “There were indications that hazardous conditions were building on the ship for several months, even before the leak, but the company never warned passengers and staff about the presence of harmful toxic gases.

The accident occurred in the Port of Los Angeles in September 2005 when according to the complaint, Royal Caribbean failed to maintain the permanent ballast tanks onboard the ship.  These tanks, which contain mixtures of gray water, puper water and sea water, creates hydrogen sulfide that with prolonged exposure can result in  severe brain and lung damage while a high concentration can cause death.

Royal Caribbean reaches agreement with family of missing man

Royal Caribbean and the family of a man who was lost on his honeymoon cruise have reached a settlement to settle a mysterious disappearance that is over five years old..

The agreement reportedly includes both additional money and information the family of George Smith IV says will help solve the highly publicized 2005 case.

George Smith's wife, Jennifer Hagel Smith reached a $1.1 million settlement with Royal Caribbean back in 2007, but the family has been mounting a challenge.  According to the Associated Press, the amended settlement is for $1.3 million and requires Royal Caribbean to turn over to the family information the cruise line gathered in its investigation, including witness statements.

George Smith and his new wife Jennifer Hagel Smith were on a Royal Caribbean cruise in the Mediterranean when he disappeared somewhere between Greece and Turkey.  There were reports that he had also been drinking heavily prior to his disappearance.  Smith's body was never found and his family believes he was murdered.

Royal Caribbean had this to say about the incident, "We entered into this agreement in hopes that it will be another step in the healing process for Jennifer and the Smith family. We are confident that the disclosure of any additional information will again demonstrate that we acted properly in assisting Jennifer and the Smith family in the aftermath of their tragic loss."
