Royal Caribbean hints at new show coming to Harmony of the Seas

In:
30 Dec 2015

Royal Caribbean Vice President of Entertainment, Nick Weir, is back at it again with hints about a new show coming to Harmony of the Seas.

For a few weeks, Weir has posted on Twitter concept art with subtle hints related to what the images could mean.

Based on the clues, it looks like there is a new show or new aspect to an existing show coming to Harmony of the Seas in the Aqua Theater.

Weir employed a similar hinting strategy in November 2015, when he hinted at which Broadway show was coming to Harmony of the Seas.

Royal Caribbean unveils panoramic montage of Mediterranean Coastal Cities to celebrate upcoming debut of Harmony of the Seas

In:
17 Dec 2015

Royal Caribbean is celebrating the impending debut of Harmony of the Seas with a new panoramic drawing that has never been done before.

British artist Stephen Wiltshire MBE – Member of the Order of the British Empire created the drawing entirely from memory of the coastal cities of Barcelona, Palma de Mallorca and Marseille, three of the six destinations guests will experience when sailing on Harmony of the Seas.

Wiltshire’s drawing gives a taste of the views, in startling detail, that discovery-driven travelers will see while sailing the Western Mediterranean next summer.

Utilizing his unique ability to sketch entire cityscapes from memory, Wiltshire merged the three distinct cities into one seamless coastal montage that is anchored by landmarks such as Barcelona’s Sagrada Familia, Palma de Mallorca’s Castillo da Bellver and Marseille’s neo-Byzantine cathedral.  Wiltshire sketched the panoramic view in his London studio with astounding accuracy after committing each scene to memory by carefully scanning the coastline from the top-deck of Allure of the Seas this past summer.

Debuting in May 2016, Harmony of the Seas will showcase the custom artwork onboard throughout her inaugural summer season, traveling to Europe’s most popular cruise destinations on seven-night Western Mediterranean itineraries.

“It was the first time I’ve ever been on a cruise and the whole experience and range of activities onboard completely took me by surprise,” said Stephen Wiltshire. “The views were absolutely breathtaking. I spent quite a lot of time visualizing the different coastlines of Barcelona, Palma de Mallorca and Marseille and to create the final panorama. It was a pleasure to be given the opportunity to create the piece and I’m thrilled that so many people from all over the world will be able to view my work while on the ship.”

“Harmony of the Seas will be the largest cruise ship ever built. Therefore, we wanted to capture something truly extraordinary that reflects the ultimate views people will experience onboard Harmony – and the best destinations they can explore off the ship too,” said Stuart Leven, Managing Director – UK & Ireland, Royal Caribbean International. “The Mediterranean coastline is undoubtedly one of the most awe-inspiring places to visit by sea. We just couldn’t wait to give our passengers a taste of its beauty and diversity ahead of the launch of Harmony of the Seas.”

Royal Caribbean's third Oasis class cruise ship, Harmony of the Seas, will feature a hand-crafted carousel in its Boardwalk neighborhood and we have a look at some of the horses and other animals guests can ride.

The company creating the carousel for Harmony of the Seas, Carousel Works, has shared photos of a few of the carousel ride elements that are already shaping up to be quite beautiful.

The carousel on Harmony of the Seas is hand-crafted and especially designed by Carousel Works for Royal Caribbean and is one-of-a-kind.

The inspiration for the carousel was taken from turn-of-the-century carousel designs. Even the original artwork scenery panels located on the carousel’s eight Rounding Boards feature custom painted scenes to highlight the wistfulness of life on the historic boardwalks.

Royal Caribbean confirmed today that the Brodway musical Grease will be shown onboard Harmony of the Seas and Independence of the Seas starting in 2016.

Today's news confirms our earlier report of Grease coming to Harmony of the Seas.

This is the first time one Broadway show has been offered on two Royal Caribbean ships simultaneously.

“Grease is a show that speaks to families of all ages and is sure to get guests out of their seats, singing and dancing, which is why we made the unprecedented decision to have it debut on Harmony andpremiere it onboard Independence immediately, starting in July,” said Nick Weir, Vice President, Entertainment, Royal Caribbean International. “As the first cruise line to bring Broadway performances onboard its ships, it’s only fitting that we would also be the first to bring Grease to the hospitality industry.”

Royal Caribbean has made a name for itself by offering Broadway shows on its cruise ships, including Cats on Oasis of the Seas, MAMMA MIA! on Allure of the Seas, Saturday Night Fever on Liberty of the Seas and now, Grease on Harmony of the Seas and Independence of the Seas.
