An original Royal Caribbean production created in the spirit of “Spamalot” and “Something Rotten,” the story recounts the imagined history of Marvin Columbus, Christopher’s fictional, down on his luck, distant cousin.

A breathtaking and revolutionary set design, transporting the audience across the Atlantic to the Caribbean, will awe the entire family and adults will thoroughly enjoy the smart, nuanced humor.

AquaTheater

Harmony of the Seas will offer two shows in the AquaTheater, the distinct high diving, acrobatic performance space introduced by Royal Caribbean with the Oasis class of ships, that feature two 10-meter high platforms and the hydraulic-floored pool, the largest and deepest freshwater pool at sea, below will serve as podiums for high-diving, hair-raising aerobatics that AquaTheater audiences have come to love.

This action packed comedy aqua show jumps into the world of a swanky 1950’s holiday resort where guys ‘n’ dolls take the audience on a frolicking escapade in, on and around the pool as an undercover detective, playing the part of a high-rolling vacationer, pursues a crafty burglar. Guests can expect plenty of family-friendly fun and awe-inspiring performance tricks as the staff of the Hideaway Resort solve the crime of a century.

Studio B ice skating

Royal Caribbean's ice rinks have been home to some amazing shows in the past, and Harmony of the Seas will feature world-class skaters that can perform extraordinary skills as stunning multimedia visuals, audio and state-of-the-art technology provide a sight and sound theatrical extravaganza.

Royal Caribbean hints at new show coming to Harmony of the Seas

Royal Caribbean Vice President of Entertainment, Nick Weir, is back at it again with hints about a new show coming to Harmony of the Seas.

For a few weeks, Weir has posted on Twitter concept art with subtle hints related to what the images could mean.

Based on the clues, it looks like there is a new show or new aspect to an existing show coming to Harmony of the Seas in the Aqua Theater.

Weir employed a similar hinting strategy in November 2015, when he hinted at which Broadway show was coming to Harmony of the Seas.

Anthem of the Seas spotlight: Vistarama

In:
11Nov2015

Royal Caribbean's Anthem of the Seas offers a lot of things to see and do onboard, and today we are highlighting one of the more impressive visual elements on this brand new ship, the Vistarama.

What is Vistarama

Vistarama is a show in Two70, where Two70's iconic floor-to-celing glass windows are transformed into a "digital canvas", where pretty much any scene, real or imagined, can be displayed on them.

Two70 is a two-deck high, multi-purpose entertainment venue is located at the rear of the ship. It features wraparound, floor-to-ceiling windows that give an amazing 270-degree view of the passing landscape.

Check out this preview of Vistarama for a good example of what this show is all about.

How does it work?

Royal Caribbean utilizes 12K resolution projects (that means it is 12 times high definition) and the result is some stunning views for guests to enjoy.

Before the show starts, the sun shields that serve as the projection surfaces are rolled down to cover the windows.

Eighteen projectors are used to create an ambient surface that is 120 feet wide by 23 feet tall, in a 5:1 aspect ratio.  This is an industry first in terms of this kind of projection technology.

The slope, curvature, and surface textures of the Vistarama system require the image content of the projections to be geometrically adapted to the circumstances. The result is a projection with a total resolution of 12,480 x 2,280 pixels and a projection size of 36 x 6 meters.

The Vistarama show content was developed by Moment Factory, while the hardware set up was made possible by Amptown System Company.

What are the Vistarama shows?

Royal Caribbean routinely offers different kind of shows throughout any given Anthem of the Seas cruise and is regularly adding new ones with each new Quantum class ship launch.

In our own experience, we have spotted these shows onboard

  • Cityscape
  • Leonardo's Dreams
  • Tropical waterfall
  • The Library
  • Moon
  • Drawings
  • Under the Sea
  • Test Pattern

Why is Vistarama worth your time?

What makes Vistarama so impressive a show is the visuals that can only be found here.

Vistarama's ultra-high definition displays transform the entire Two70 space and it is one of those things you have to see to appreciate.

Simply put, Vistarama is a stunning display that is as beautiful as it is immense in scale.

Royal Caribbean fun: Love and Marriage Game Show

In:
10Jul2015

Royal Caribbean has some very fun shows onboard its ships, and one of my favorite shows has to be the Love and Marriage game show.  Over the years, the Love and Marriage show has become a fan favorite event and we are going to dive into the essentials of what you need to know about this show.

Love and Marriage show basics

Let us begin with describing the Love and Marriage game show and what it is.

Most Royal Caribbean cruise directors that I have heard talk about the show, describe it as being similar to the The Newlywed Game television show.

The cruise director picks three couples from the audience:

  • A couple that recently been married
  • A couple that has been married for around 10-20 years
  • A couple that has been married the longest (usually 20+ years)

There are two rounds, and in each round, one spouse is taken backstage to be in isolation while the other spouse is asked a series of questions about their relationship.  The questions are usually about the circumstances in which they first met, dates they have gone on and even some personal questions about their relationship.

After the first spouse gives their answers, the other spouse returns and asked the same questions.  Each question that both spouses answer the same results in a point for that couple.

The spouses then switch and the next round repeats similar to the first round, but with new questions.

At the end of both rounds, the couple with the most points wins.

Why the Love and Marriage game show is entertaining

Before the show even begins, the ship's cruise director will ask for volunteers and usually there are quite a few couples vying to be picked.  As a sort of audition, each couple must perform a quick demonstration of their passion for each other by repeating a phrase.  After each couple auditions, the audience votes for their favorite based on applause.

The couples who really go over the top with their enthusiasm are usually the ones that get the most votes, so off the bat, you get some very fun folks who give it their all to be picked.

The real fun is when the show begins and we hear the answers and then the reaction of the other spouse to each answer.

What makes the show fun is when one spouse is very wrong or a spouse reveals something embarrassing about themselves.  The cruise director certainly plays a part in encouraging the couples to be honest and then poking fun at the answers.

The show is kept family friendly for the most part, although there are references to each body parts and past sexual experiences.  It's presented in good fun and older children that are mature enough for these kinds topics will also find the show amusing.

How to see the Love and Marriage game show

The show is usually held in the Royal Theater on one evening of the cruise.

You will have to check your Cruise Compass for the exact day and time.

The show is also shown live and subsequently in re-runs on the stateroom televisions.  This can be a good option if you have other plans or perhaps you have to be in your stateroom for some reason.

Auditioning for the show

If you are feeling in the mood to participate in the show and poke a little fun at yourself, any married couple can audition for the show.

You should plan on arriving at the theater well before the show is to begin.  At least 30 minutes before show time and sitting close to the stage are good ideas.

As mentioned earlier, the cruise director will ask you and your spouse to repeat a phrase and demonstrate for the audience why you really deserve to be there.  This is when being creative helps.

Over the years, couples have screamed, kissed passionately, swept each other off their feet and otherwise demonstrated a great deal of enthusiasm to differentiate themselves from the other couples.  There is no guaranteed way to be picked, but try to be as excited and enthusiastic as possible when auditioning.
